Power steering failed 10. 26. 2019. Wife had mentioned to service advisor that she had a warning msg about a year ago during a normal servicing of her vehicle and asked for someone to do a check on it. The result was nothing is wrong with the epas and there was no written instruction on her service invoice which is odd, because she specifically ask that the epas be check while they were doing her oil change. Over the last year the warning msg came back usually during extreme changes of weather. My wife called the dealer where she has service work done to report additional warning msgs. The service rep asked my wife to describe what the msg was and when it occurred. The service rep acted as if he had never heard of this problem but said he would note it. This failure on 10. 26. 2019 occurred when I just left home. I was able to return home and park in the driveway. I cannot imagine my wife trying to drive with this problem that happens with no warning. I've grew up driving cars w/o power steering, but this epas failure is beyond anything she could handle. The electric-assist power steering has begun to fail. Randomly when I start the car and I get an alert on the dash about the power steering system along with the orange safety alert icon. The car has no power steering at all. I turn the car off and then restart. Usually, this clears the error and brings the power steering back online. I have occasionally had to restart the car more than once. This has also happened to my husband while driving. We had to pull over and he restarted the car multiple times to get the power steering back online. It is increasing in frequency and is to the point we have an appointment for the fix which will cost us over $2500.

Ford franchise dealer store has verified that this issue happens on 2012-2014 Ford fusion and Focus and the issue happens without car being hit or involved in any accident. Ford has already announced recalls for 2011-2014 escape, explorer, and mariner for power steering defect. I have experienced the exact same situation described for those recalls. Electronic power steering assist failures. Several times over the past four months my wife and I started the car and there was no power steering. The car was undrivable and warning on the dash indicated steering failure. Sometimes two or more restarts were required before the warning went off and the power steering returned. Although it hasn't happened yet while driving the car. My research on this failure showed that its highly possible that it could happen while driving and cause injury or death. Farther research shows that repairs could cost as much as $2,200. 00.

Power steering has been going "in and out" for about 1-2 years. Resolved temporarily typically by restarting engine. However, power steering permanently failed 9/9/18. Took my car in multiple times prior to this with no resolution. Looking at a $2100 bill to replace whole steering gear. Multiple electrical issues with cars computer. Called customer care stating Ford knew about the issue (2017 dismissed lawsuit)-- but warranty was relied to get out of the cost responsibility. Mileage around 94-96,000.

On April 7th 2018 I started my 2012 Ford Focus and the steering wheel was locked solid the warning lights lite up stating electronic power steering assist failure. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it 3 times until it started working again. I went right to the dealer where I bought the vehicle. They claim there is no recall. I did some research find that there's been over 120 injuries and one death related to the power steering failure on these vehicles. This is happened to my vehicle now totaling 10 times and now I'm terrified to drive the vehicle which concerns of as I'm on the road the steering locks up when I get in a crash or accident. The NHTSA and Ford know of this problem. This is a major issue that must be addressed. Please help I was stationary it's time and just hoping and praying this doesn't happen to me when I'm on the highway at 70 miles an hour like it has done to other people and have been injured.
