1 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

Power steering failed as we were pulling into a shopping center and had to have the vehicle towed to the mechanic. It started by making a grinding noise and then the steering got very hard to turn so we had it towed. We are aware that this has been a big problem on the Ford Focus but neither NHTSA or Ford has placed recall on this issue meanwhile Focus drivers have been spending an average of $1500. To $2000. To repair the power steering rack and pinion. Shame on you both.

2 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2017

While backing out of our garage I noticed a strange noise when I turned the steering wheel. The same noise occurred when I had to turn the steering wheel to enter the garage. ( makes the noise every time you drive it now. ) I had a local mechanic friend check it and he said to take it to the dealer to run diagnostics and to drive it as little as possible. The nearest dealer is 20+ miles away. I made an appointment and here is the diagnoses: found that the noise is internal to the epas gear. Steering gear replacement and alignment $1596. 49 installed plus tax. I had to pay a $95 diagnostic fee to find this out. The car has 61094 miles on it, so it is out of warranty and the Ford Focus has not had a recall for this problem. Many other Ford models with the same steering mechanism have been recalled, why not this one! so now it is sitting in the garage waiting on the part to come in so I can take it back to the dealer and have it, hopefully fixed to be safe. Hoping for a recall to get my money back.

3 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2017

The contact owned a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving approximately 30 mph, there was an abnormal noise and the steering seized. The contact crashed into a telephone pole. The driver's side air bag deployed. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to the arms, a broken nose, and black eyes. Medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was destroyed. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

4 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2016

A few days before incident the car developed a rubbing noise in the steering column and my fiance stated that the car was difficult to steer. Thinking it was a power steering issue - a service appointment was scheduled and I drove the car to the dealer after hours. The distance is approximately 13 miles. After about 10 miles the dash display indicated a yellow display stating "service steering system soon". I continued to dealership and arrived just before 7:00 pm. When I turned the car into a parking space near service the steering column locked and became immovable and car display stated a red warning box " total steering failure - stop safely" this is the condition the service manager found the next morning. The cause is a total failure of the electronic steering control module. The cost to replace this part is $2000 after which time the dealer can diagnose "any of the other three common causes of steering loss. ".
