general problems of the 2013 Ford Focus - part 2

I started the car and the steering assist fault alert came up and the steering wheel was locked in place. I turned the car off and back on and there was no longer an issue. The car also jerks when accelerating quickly. This has been an ongoing issue that the dealership claims to have repaired.

Car in motion in a street and suddenly stopped and my wife couldn't turn the wheel. Until she managed somehow to park it. (power steering problem). Speed problem when accelerating, car slowed down in highway suddenly while other cars behind me. It did it 5 times in different days. (transmission problem). Now car is parked since 3 months in parking lot. Since 2016 I reported 5 times to Ford dealers the dual clutch transmission problem. I filed online report. I reported in 2019 power steering problem they didn't fix it. I fixed it. Now I can not drive my 2013 Focus for safety precautions due to transmission problem since 3 months. They refuse to admit recall and fix the problem. I am paying a lease for not be able to drive my car.

Power steering will not work. Began having issues several months ago but re-cranking would fix issue. Now power steering is completely out. What a driving hazard this is and it's obvious a big issue in this make and model. Why no recall? this is a 2013 Ford Focus with 70,000 miles. Vehicle was stationary when finally went out.

I was driving down a city street and an engine light appeared and instantly power steering stopped while I was in motion. I had to slowly drive the car back to the house which was 10 mins away and park it which obviously was not easy considering the circumstances. Ford stated that there were no recalls on electrical or power steering for this model but I have seen that some other models have had electrical issues and its concerning. Luckily, I was the only person in the car and my children were not present. I am also thankful I was not on the interstate when this occurred as this could have been a potentially dangerous situation. This occurred yesterday, 8/26/2020 in indianapolis, in.

Steering fault can turn the steering wheel this is a big problem Ford should not be able to sell this kind of car. I have had issues after issues with this 2013 Ford I have had transmission issues that I had to pay for out of pocket and now this less than 47k this car model is a lemon!! as much trouble this car has cased me I should get a full refund and Ford should buy this piece of junk back I have 4 Fords but this Ford is my last one I will buy a Honda or something else Ford is not what it use too be!.

I would like to report a power steering assist fault warning light and also power steering that's completely inoperable. It first went out and when the car was turn off and back on, it worked but went out again while driving. It has been inoperable since the second lost of steering.

Car jerks during acceleration, cpu was updated at Ford dealership but jerking is persistent, transmission overheating signal appeared, check engine signal appeared, car reverse gear faulty. All happened while car was in motion in a busy street. After car showed the transmission overheating signal it shut down and I was close to getting hit by another car from the rear end as it shut down simultaneously. Called towing service right after because car would no longer drive when on gear.

The steering wheel got stuck! thank god I was leaving my home and noticed it. . And also I had to get the meter fixed because it was giving me the wrong gas mileage.

Electric steering assist system went out. I was getting ready to head home when the steering was like a lead brick, luckily I was still in my work parking lot of newcastle heated storage 7115 132nd place se newcastle wa 98059 when it went bad. I couldn't control the steering unless I was a body builder. I parked and called uber.

My check engine light is on and the code that was read is p1450. The wheel locked on me on two separate occasions. I was unable to make a turn while going across traffic to get to the other side of the median and had to completely turn the car off and start it again for it to unlock.

I started the car and while it was still in park, completely unmoving, an alert came up on the screen saying �steering fault service now� and the steering wheel was completely unable to move.

My power steering seized and went out while driving on the freeway with my child. We are so lucky that we did not crash and die! I have had nothing but problems with my 2013 Ford Focus! I just wanted a safe car for my child and I. Even after I fix it and pay over $2000. 00 I will never feel safe in this car again! how can Ford be ok with this. The car itself should be recalled! power steering, transmission replacement, brake lines failing, radio has gone out, sync never worked, door latches failed, now I am told my gas tank is recalled! ugggg!.

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, through an intersection making a left turn with the acceleration pedal depressed. The steering wheel seized as the power train assist warning light illuminated. The contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road where a ditch was, turn the vehicle off and back on but failed to resume back to normal. The contact waited for about 1 hr turned the vehicle on which resume back to normal. No dealer was contacted. The vehicle has not been seen for a diagnosed test. When starting the car received the following error "steering assist fault". The car has no power steering and is undrivable. Turned car on and off trying to reset it but it will not reset. The car was stationary located in a parking lot.

With no cause or warning, the instrument panel notified me that "hill assist is unavailable". Also, when stationary, there appears to be no power steering when attempting to turn left. This problem stops when rolling forward or reverse. After moving, the problem does not reoccur (stop signs, stop lights, etc). It does, however, occur again when the ignition is turned off, then back on. Both of these problems began at the same time.

Power steering assist seems to have failed ,hard to steerwhen turning,also hard to drive streight.

I was backing up at a gas station and all of a sudden it just quit steering. I was moving very slowly so was able to stop with my brakes, but it was a very close call.

My son had just driven to altoona, PA from wash DC, parked the car, and went into house. Came out of house, got into car to drive to state college , PA where he is a student at psu. Was unable to steer the car. Luckily this didn't happen while he was on the highway. Car had to be towed to stuckey Ford in hollidaysburg, PA. Shouldn't such a dangerous malfunction,especially with only 40,000 miles , qualify as a recall ? cost of repair was $2495. 00.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus, they stated that the power steering stopped functioning while driving at approximately 30 mph. The vehicles warning lights illuminated advising that steering assist fault service was required. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer and the manufacturer advised the contact to have vehicle diagnosed. The failure mileage is 108604 ep.

Car was sitting idling for approximately 5 minutes with the ac on, then proceeded to drive slowly out of parking lot as soon as I got out of parking lot, about 500 ft the power steering went out, no warning that I was aware of it just went out. I was on a residential street. I was able to pull off to the side of the road and turn the vehicle off and when I restarted the vehicle it was fine.

As others described. While driving the power steering stops. Pull over and restart the engine and the steering assists comes back. This has been happening for a year intermittently about 6-8 weeks apart. This week it happened but the steering assist has not returned.

When I turned my car on I got an alert that said "steering assist fault service required". I tried to back up but the steering wheel was completely stiff so I turned my car off. When I turned it back on the power steering returned. I have read a lot of complaints about the same issue online, and I am confused as to why there isn't a recall on the power steering yet.

This Focus has gave me nothing but problems . I've had it for almost 4 years in January. And it's left me stranded numerous times multiple trips to the delership lets not get started on how awful they are. I'm going to trade it in . Never will I buy another Ford !!.

My sterling get stuck and my transmission making noise and my car dont go into reverse.

Drove to work fine, on my way home, alert comes on steering wheel fault and then I can barely turn the wheel. I panic and pull into auto zone, which they say I may need power steering fluid so I buy a bottle. Look in the car book to see where to put it, turns out this car isnt equip with that, I have an esp! get in the car again and everything is fine no alert and I can drive it fine. Next day I go to drive and again I have an alert and can not drive!!! this is my 1st car ever and in the 2yrs I've had it nothing but recalls on it! this needs to be a recall to many are complaining about the same issue. What if this happen on a highway!?!?! on top of this I'm still waiting for a fix to the gas gauge issue, and the transmission was supposedly fix but it's still doing the same thing after a full stop, it has a hard time going again!!!!! I will never by a Ford vehicle again.

While driving, my power steering randomly goes out, luckily I was parking when it did, but the message pops up as -steering assist fault-. Now I would have been worried if it wasnt for the fact that it would work for short periods of time then randomly cut off in the middle of driving, got me once on a turn almost causing me to crash. Not sure if there is a real difference with the other Focuses but mines a 2013 Ford Focus se hatchback.

After starting my vehicle, and putting it into gear, the steering wheel locks up and I get an error stating "steering fault assist service required". Turning the vehicle off and on again fixed this issue a few times before, but it worries me that the power steering could go out at any time. There are several recalls for other Ford models having this issue, such as the fusion, but there is no recall for the Focus.

Power steering fault numerous times and car has to be shut off and restarted sometimes multiple times to get power steering to work so the car is driveable.

My 2013 Ford Focus hatchback power steering stop working! this is not good because now I have no choice but to hit something because I can no longer maneuver around it. The car is hard to steer and should not happen on any vehicle! luckily this happened hours after getting home from work. Now I have to drive my car like this until I pay it off or trade it in! that's crazy and I have found out that I am not the only one that had this issue!.

The warning in the attached picture came up and power steering quit working. Warning goes out when you turn car off but it's right back on when you start the car. . I went to leave for work and started the car and went to pull out of my driveway and could barely turn the steering wheel. So I parked it and got in my pick up truck. Haven't driven it since because it won't go out. Had another issue with the car. I had it fixed at Ford for several hundred dollars and then a recall came out. Was waiting to see if a recall came out on this issue.

Power stopped operating while driving. It had suddenly become very difficult to turn the steering wheel. This is dangerous especially for a smaller person, the steering wheel is almost impossible to turn.

The contact managed to steer the vehicle home. The dealer was not contacted. The failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Complete failure of power steering making car impossible to drive. Per dealer rack / bolt failure. Estimate to repair $2200. Could have caused car crash. What happened warning light to pull over get service immediately followed by complete locking of steering. Even the tow truck person could barely get on to tow truck because could not move position of care.
