Failure Date: 03/06/2018

I bought my first brand new car a 2014 Ford Focus. I decided to go with a new car to have less problems in the long run. Boy was I wrong. After only 25000 miles my car began having transmission problems. I then brought it into the dealership and found out that Ford had issued a recall on the transmission module. So I had that replaced free of charge. My car now has 45000 miles on it and it began causing me problems again, so I thought it was the same thing as before. I brought it into the dealership to have it checked out. After a day of waiting I received a call entailing all that was wrong with my car. This time it as much worse, my catalytic converter needed to be replaced which I was told this was covered by my warranty. Now the next part I was told is the reason I am here writing this compliant. The dealership told me that my fuel tank had collapsed, and it was going to cost me upwards of $2100 to be fixed. So I then asked the question, what caused this to happen? I was told that this is a rare occurrence and there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. Now keep in mind I change my oil every 3000 miles and do all the normal maintenance to keep any car running smoothly. I began to research collapsed fuel tanks in 2014 Ford Focuses, and I found that this not a rare occurrence and in fact it has happened to quite a few people. I hope this is found and read by corporate Ford, so a recall can be initiated and I can be compensated.

37 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2018

My 2014 Ford Focus (24,000 miles) stalled in traffic. It had no dash lights but the vehicle dashboard displayed the message "engine failure". After towing to the Ford dealer, the service advisor stated that the fuel vacuum purge valve was defective and had caused a deformation of the fuel tank. He also said that his dealership was seeing several of these defects each week. He mentioned that a notice had been issued to dealers by Ford about the defect, but that Ford had not recalled the vehicles for the defect and that repairs would be the responsibility of the owners. The estimated cost was $1800. Of course, this is an engineering and production defect caused by Ford and represents a safety issue. A recall should be ordered immediately.

38 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2018

The capless gas tank is trapping air, causing the car to "burp" and sometimes turning engine off even when driving. This has happened numerous times in the last 8 months. But more frequently lately. I was driving down the interstate and my engine cut off from it. Went to get it checked out and the service centers keep giving me the same response everywhere.

39 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving approximately 55 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to ridenour auto group (500 w broadway st, new lexington, OH 43764, phone number: (740) 342-5146) where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

40 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Shuddering so bad that car shuts off while driving on the highway. 60 to nothing. Nearly hit. Shuddered leaving stop signs and intersections- nearly hit. Fuel system issues- bowed gas tank in the heat. Could have exploded. In shop 8+ times since new. Ford customer care nor Ford dealership will resolve.

41 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

Vehicle stalled while traveling 30 mph, same fuel system that is under recall on Ford vehicles manufactured through 2013-2015. It is obviously the same exact issue. I nearly lost my life driving a 3 year old car that I'm still paying on. The fuel system completely failed while the vehicle was in motion. I had just scheduled service on the vehicle earlier that morning because it was not reading the fuel level correctly and stalling when I filled the tank up. The Ford dealership wants to charge me 2,500. 00 to have it replaced when they know that the system is defective because of the manufacturer part.

43 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

2014 Ford Focus with 45k miles, completely stock. Fuel tank collapsed due to evap solenoid failure. This caused the fuel gauge to read inaccurately and the vehicle ran out of fuel while driving down the interstate at 75mph with no warnings. No check gauges light, no sel light, no codes, nothing but complete automotive failure. Ford refuses to fix this known failure under warranty claiming it is not covered under the powertrain warranty (not sure how emissions equipment and fuel isn't powertrain components. . . . . . . ). Ford wanted $900 to fix just the fuel tank, plus additional costs for the evap canister, evap solenoid, and fuel sending unit. I will have to fix this my self even though I still have 15k miles left under my powertrain warranty and this is known failure from Ford (they have TSB's for their techs to follow for this very specific reason!!!!!!). Unacceptable.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2014

Purchased 2014 Focus on 6/7/14, clutch asy replaced 11/30/15,clutch asy replaced 9/12/16, install new etb 9/14/16 (throttle body), replace battery 12/20/16, given extended warranty w/$100 deductable 11/11/16 - warranty expired 6/7/19, replaced clutch asy 6/9/19 - 7/3/19. Three clutch assemby's in 5 years - very unsafe. Also 6/9/19-7/3/19 replaced side door latch (safety recall) and fuel tank deformation - replaced tube asy - fue. With this many clutch repairs Ford new they had an issue. Even though Ford gave me an extended warranty in 2016 due to the issues with my car, they backdated the warranty to the date the car was purchased. This also seems deceptive. Numerous times I was traveling on instertate roads, when I pulled out to pass a semi, the car would cut out. When accellerating in the city or on instertates, there would be no acceleration when pushing the accelator. Just the opposite would happen. The car would caugh and choke before finally catching to accelorate. I believe both Ford and the dealer should be held accountable with all the safety issues this car has had, and continues to have.
