Ford Focus owners have reported 88 problems related to air bag light on (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Focus based on all problems reported for the Focus.
Air bag light: our car was parked, and got hit by another car. This damaged the frame, but the air bag light went off and the air bags didn't engage. After the mechanic fixed our car the air bag light won't go off, and the dealership hasn't been able to clear it out. We have asked multiple times for them to fix it, and they say they don't know what's wrong. I don't know if my air bags will work, and they don't know what's wrong. I have had this problem for 5 years now, and every time I bring my car in the dealership ignores the air bag light.

The air bag light indicating that the passenger air bag even when there's a passenger on board will indicate the airbag is off. It has been doing this everysince I got the car 4 years ago. Now I have a child and people who ride in the passenger seat and safety has become a huge concern there are many reports online of this issue including on here. My family and I cannot afford to replace this or fix this our selves to my knowledge the only aftermarket parts on my car our the tires and all of the mounts. For the original manufactured mounts failed and broke.

The air bag light stays on all the time. Moving the steering wheel in and out makes it turn off, so I suspect the steering wheel airbag has a bad connection. Searching online, it sounds like the clock spring goes bad.
I wrecked my car and in the accident no airbags were deployed. Later after the local mechanic fixed the damage he returned the car to me and within 24 hours the computer reset itself and the airbag light came on indicating a problem. The light has never turned off except when the car is shut off and the airbags never have come out.
Airbag light keeps coming on and going off when it feels like it. I have heard several other Ford Focus owners (different years) have had the same thing happen to them. Ford said they are not aware of a problem. Haven't had it fixed. Keep watching for any recalls but haven't had any yet.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 32,200.
Airbag light come on and off 90% of the time when driving car purchased car January 2013 used 33. 000 miles 4 mnths later (may 2013)driving home from work the air bag light went on and now stay on for weeks on end and then goes off,.
The airbag safety light indicator is 'on' on the dash board. I am afraid of a front end accident and not have the airbag work. Also, the wipers scrape or skip across the windshield. Both the windshield and blades have been replaced and the skipping continues no matter the amount of water on the windshield.

I had turned on my vehicle and the airbag light came on and stayed on. Originally, the airbag light would come on when I started the car in the mornings and then shut off when the car had been driven for a short period. I had an independent mechanic that I have used for 8 years investigate the issue and he suggested I file a complaint, as it is difficult for him to pinpoint the fault for the airbag light. This vehicle has over a dozen recalls on it already that have been fixed over the years. Some other issues have not been addressed ever, except for the same vehicle sold in canada. Also, I never received compensation for the brake disc replacement that had occurred after 22,000 miles had been on the vehicle. I never had to replace disc at such short time of driving a vehicle. Lastly, the center console is unstable and detached from the rear at the base of the arm rest, which was poorly secured with three 1/4 inch welds.

My 2009 Focus ses was seen by the dealer for the airbag light being constantly on in November 2011. They replaced the passenger side airbag module. This winter (2012) the airbag light has come on again. It apparently has something to do with hot/cold temps.

I am very worried about airbag light on the dash which is presently lit up since 2012. I took it to several mechanics and they won't do anything about since it is not on the list. Can someone please check and make sure takata has not extended to Ford Focus 2007 for me? thank you, sincerely, barbara perry.

Air bag light is illuminated or on. However, my car has never been in an accident or collision. Power steering on the car went bad. I had to get it replaced. Wanted to know if there are any recalls for both of these issues. I bought this car new. Should I be experiencing problems this soon?.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The contact was driving at various speeds when the front passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated until the engine was turned off. The failure recurred whenever the engine was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis where they informed the contact that the instrument cluster and passenger side impact sensor would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed the service warranty expired. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.
The airbag light on the instrument cluster of my 2007 Ford Focus came on for the first time August 31, 2011. The car has 37,023 miles and has had all the dealer maintenance performed since the car was purchased. I was told by the longmont Ford dealer that the on board diagnostic computer indicated a loss of communication and that the airbag safety system was not engaged when the light was on. I returned to the dealer the next day to have a complete diagnostic to determine what had caused the light to activate. I was told that the instrument cluster had failed and that the entire cluster must be replaced. This electronic failure represents a serious safety issue if not replaced at a cost of ~$800. 00. I am deeply concerned that other drivers of this car may not understand that the safety system is completely inactive when the instrument cluster fails in this way. Ford does not offer to replace this as part of the safety warranty program. I think this is wrong and represents a safety hazard for drivers who may not understand the failure or who cannot afford to make such a repair and choose to drive the care without the safety feature operable.
Air bag light lights up indicating some type of failure if used.
I have a 2006 Ford Focus with aprox 65,000 mileage. Recently, the air bag indicator light comes on occasionally, more often and for more lengthy periods more recently. It seems to match the issues of new Ford pickup truck recall in which airbags deploy without notice or cause - resulting apparantly from frayed/shorted sensor wires - preceded by illumination of airbag dashboard indicator, as occurs in my 2006 Ford Focus. Is there cause for concern with my family's use of this car? thank you.
Just as a preface, I sent this same description of my airbag problem to Ford and they were unwilling to help in any way. I purchased my used 2007 Ford Focus from a beasley Ford dealership in June 2010. Not even one year after I purchased the vehicle in April 2011, I was driving down the road and the airbag light started to flicker. Shortly after, it just stayed on. I noticed that the center dash passenger airbag light, the one that senses a sitting passenger, was also flickering from time to time and would sporadically come on or off. In may 2010, I called beasley Ford and the woman said that it would be $88. 00 to diagnose the airbag light and that my vehicle was not covered under any warranty for this matter. I took my car in for an oil change and decided to spend the $88 dollars to have the airbag light diagnosed. I waited for an hour and forty-five minutes. I was called to the service center. The technician told me that he needed another two hours with my car to diagnose the problem. He had already spent one hour trying to diagnose the problem and he was able to narrow it down to 3-4 possible causes. I was told that it would be another $88. 00 per hour, totaling $167. 00, just to figure out what is wrong with the airbag. I told the service representative that I called and the woman said it was $88 dollars and never told me it was $88 dollars per hour. I was then told that after the diagnosis, I will have to pay for parts, which could be upwards of $617. 00 if the airbag needs to be replaced, plus labor. Frustrated and completely shocked, I came home and checked to see if the airbag was an ongoing problem for other Ford Focus owners. I read about hundreds of other individuals who have had the same issue within the years 2005-2007. One of the main reasons why I am writing is because if this issue hasn’t been looked into, I think it should be.
2009 Ford Focus. Consumer states problem with ticking noise the consumer stated there were engine/exhaust noise emitting from the vehicle after it was turned off. According to the dealer, some Ford vehicle may exhibit a ticking/pinging noise from the hot exhaust after the engine is turned off and the exhaust cools down, which is due to the exhaust system expanding and contracting during heating and cooling cycles. The ticking/pinging should be considered normal. The brake fluid light illuminated and it was determined the fluid was low. The tires were found to be out of round, the air bag light illuminated. The tpms light illuminated due to low pressure in one of the tires. It was determined that one of the tires had a leak.
2005 Ford Focus zxw wagon. Consumer states a problem with the air bag indicator light. Dealer repaired but the indicator light is back on. He believes that the air bag might not be engaged. According to the invoice, there may be a problem with the clock spring assembly.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the air bag system failed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reccurred several times. In addition, the contact stated that while entering the vehicle it was found that the driver front seat was the problem. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was confirmed that the cushion of the seat became disconnected from the body. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The airbag indicator light on the dash comes on at different times. Sometimes on for days then off for a day, then back on. The dealer tells me that this is a common problem and it may be the wires or connectors that run under the seats. He said"people feet can hit the wires, and moving of the seats can damage them. Sounds like a design problem to me. For a few $100 he can tell me.
Purchased new, have had in to Ford dealer multiple times for air bag light on both on cluster and on dash. Ford did what amounted to temp fix 3 times, I moved later paid nearly $1ooo to replace parts. Fix lasted few weeks. Light out right now but one or both lights come on and stay on about every other week. Ford has been useless as to permanent fix. Had similar problems with Ford f-250 but with engine. Moving or stopped someone in both seats or not it keeps happening.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Focus. While driving 20 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the front air bags deployed. The passenger side air bag cracked the windshield. The passenger side seat belt failed. The passenger seat was unoccupied. There was no impact or warning indicators prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the air bags deployed due to a crash. No repairs were made. A police report was filed. The current and failure mileages were 78,871. Updated 3/11/08
the consumer stated there was no damage done to the front end of the vehicle. Updated 03/11/08.

Driving on the interstate with a friend the air bag deployed while driving 65 mph we hit nothing thank god it was not the drivers air bag the car is only 8 months old we have a bumper to bumper warranty with Ford motor company. They would not look at it and told us to go to our insurance company. We had to pay a 500. 00 they found that the computer recorded a head on accident which will not be erased so the car value is now lost they took pictures of everything showing no accident at all the insurance company changed all the sensors and then the air bag light would not go off it indicated a passenger in the seat so the sent it to thoroughbred Ford and said they did not care what they had to do but fix the car so the did. It cost me 500. 00 deductible and the insurance CO 1,800. 00 so now the are waiting for Ford to except liability. We no not feel our son is safe driving this car I feel most accidents should be looked at as which happened first an accident or the air bag. We could have lost four young men because of this I am very angry with this total process it took 3 weeks to get the car back this also involved missing work classes and alot of trouble with transportation I wish they would take this car off the road so if and when it is sold I do not have that burden of someone else's life on my head and heart.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The air bag light flashes on and off when an occupant is seated in the front passenger seat. The dealer stated that the OCS sensor was malfunctioning and they made the replacement. However, the failure was not corrected. The dealer stated that the passenger's weight caused the light to flash, but they did not know how to correct the failure. The current mileage was 32,544 and failure mileage was 91.
Air bag light came on about 2 weeks ago. After shtting car off and restarting, the light came on and went out as it should. Yesterday the light again came on and will not reset. Will take car to dealer at first opportunity.
Year of vehicle: 2007 make: Ford model: Focus se date of purchase: July 2007 selling/: spreen Honda odometer @ purchasing: 24,900 current mileage: 49,000 problem(s) with the following: transmission - repair attempts: srs/airbag lamp - repair attempts: steering shake/vibration - repair attempts: seat belt repair/replacement - repair attempts: air bag light is back on again in the 'on' position - multiple repair attempts: complaint to dealer: yes. Cld spreen Honda spoke to owner who sent me to a salesman. The next time I returned it to fritz dealership (since they did orig work), for same probs & I was told I wouldn't get a courtesy car and they had no idea how long it would take for repairs. The interior airbag light was in the 'on' position, the transmission began slipping, the front end was shaking like before. Car was returned the 2nd time for the same problems. I was told it was defective parts & had to be ordered. No courtesy car this time like the first time so I was stranded (I'm disabled and nd trans). The car is falling apart little by little with the back door handle broken completely. The seller (spreen Honda) said I would hv to get a new loan on a new vehicle instead of 'exchanging vehicles' as promised in my conversations with the owner, at spreen Honda, place of purchase. I refused this 'hustle' because this was not what I was told over the phone, but after 2nd set of repairs, the car would be replaced. . . Not me purchase another car and give up another down payment! I didn't agree to this and walked out. This car has been under repair for weeks off/on for the same or similar problem I. E. , the transmission first repair was only a few months after purchase, along with front end shaking. I was given a courtesy car while repairs we done w/out the 1st time, but not the 2nd. I was told my car had a 'defective part' & had ordered it. The car has been returned again for same probs mentioned above. Airbag light is bk on again and transmission slip.
: the contact stated the air bag light illuminated intermittently and a few weeks later, the passenger air bag light illuminated. The dealer attempted a repair however, the problem recurred.
Where do I begin? I've had almost all of the issues/complaints already filed here from the dome/airbag lights going off for no reason, the key getting stuck or the car stalling in not starting, disrespect/unprofessional from Ford repair staff or calling Ford corporate, and the most famous Focus moment of all, when the car shakes at speeds of 50 or above on highways. O Ford!, how you've screwed us all!!!!!!!.
