I bought my 2018 Ford Focus hatchback on 06/23/2018 and on 09/03/20 I had to have my front and rear rotors and brake pads replaced. The rotor was cracked and they were really rusted. Making my car undrivable. This makes me sick that Ford uses such cheap parts that I myself as a poor michigander had to replace rotors and brake pads within 2 years of buying a brand new car.

My breaks feel very mushy. I have to pump my breaks in order for me to stop. I could be driving on the highway and need to slow down or coming to a complete stop when my breaks don't respond normally. While on highway if I don't pump breaks the pedal just goes to the floor. When coming to a stop I have to pump breaks to slow down and have the pedal to floor in order to stop. If I come off the floor just sligtly with pedal the car will roll forward. Very scary may I ad. I am the second owner and noticed the problem the next day after purchase. I had the break pads and rotors replaced and it did not fix the problem. This is a daily problem.

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph and applying the brakes, the brake pedal traveled completely to the floorboard. The vehicle also would not stop. The contact was able to avoid a crash. The vehicle was inspected and it was determined that the brake pads had become detached from the metal plate. The contact attempted to call the dealer but was unable to do so. The contact then replaced the brakes and rotors on both the passenger and driver's side of the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 35,500. Kmj.

While depressing the brake pedal, the steering wheel started to vibrate intensely. Was at approx. 60 mph. Took car to dealership, they said the pads and rotor were bad. This car only has approx. 30k miles. This is fast wear on brakes. This is a serious safety problem. The brakes are slow to grab.
The inner brake pads on the front axles are prone to binding due to rust. The clearances are very tight. This causes premature, uneven brake and rotor wear once the pad rusts up and stops floating. My pads just failed after 42k miles; yet the outer pads were over 1/4" thick. I propose a several-part remedy (first 3 to be done by servicing technician): 1. Examine the pads more frequently than the usual once a year required by typical safety inspections; pull the wheels and check for movement of the inboard pads. The pads may have to be retracted with a c clamp so they have room to move. 2. If the pads are frozen, remove brake disk and pads and remove rust on the sliding surface down to bare metal with a flat file, until pads slide freely. 3. Lubricate surfaces with molykote or similar anti-seize compound. 4. The manufacturer should review the design with brake vendors to come up with a solution which could be incorporated into replacement pads. If slightly shorter pads are the answer, they should include anti-rattle measures. Also, a squealer spring should be added to contact the brake disk when the pad is almost gone to give an audible warning to the driver. These work well on chryslers (I don't know who makes them).
Rotors and brake pads wear down faster than I can afford to fix them. Rotors only last 1-2 months then before warping then I ride them out for another month (no money to keep replacing) this has been an ongoing problem for 2 years. I have receipts and mechanics proof. Its crazy. I have also verified same problem on other car complaint web sites with people and Ford Focus' - brakes pads and rotors should not wear out monthly. I cant afford the repairs but I cant afford to have my brakes go out completely and risk the harm to myself and others on the road. Please help.
2006 Ford Focus with low mileage replacing brake pads and rotors for the 3rd time, my concern is of faulty parts Ford company may be using and if so, due to the obvious safety concerns should I be alarmed and should I worry when myself and my family are traveling in the car will the brakes fell. Ford charged me the first repair cost and now just a few months later ready to charge me again for the same repairs.

I noticed that when I bought my 2005 Focus that the rotors already had grooves in them. The brake pads also wore out extremely quick. The other day I got home from work and went to get out of the car and the key wouldn't come out of the ignition. I have had to leave the key in the ignition over night. I am afraid to take it to get it fixed because I have seen how much others have paid and I just don't have that kind of money.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Focus zts. The contact stated that the brakes worked intermittently. The vehicle failed to come to a complete stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The dealer changed the brake pads. Upon leaving the dealer the failure recurred. Also, the contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck. On several occasions the contact had to release the accelerator pedal and then depressed it again for the vehicle to respond properly. Weather and speed were not factors. The current and failure mileages were 41,500.

I had my car in the garage for a fuel problem which was solved by a computer update and while it was there, I had the dealer do an oil change. For some reason they checked the brakes and found that my left front brakes where gone. They replaced the front rotors and pads and I told them to put the old parts in my car. Upon my own inspection of the old parts, 3 of the pads still had about 1/4 inch of pad left while the inner driver side pad had nothing left to it. The driver side rotor also had significant wear to it while the passenger side still looked and felt fine.
I own a 2004 and 2005 Ford Focus. One is an se and one a zx3. The front brakes on the 2004 went out at 32,000 miles and the 2005 went out at 40000 miles. Both vehicles are driven nicely. On both there was a slight grinding for about a week and then total pad failure in the right inside pad. Ford says the pads I bought from the dealer are lifetime warranty but the system when new carries no warranty. By the time problems are noticed, it's too late and both the pads and rotors need to be replaced.
: the contact stated there was a rumbling noise coming from the front brakes at various speeds. The dealership determined the front brake pads were worn out on the inner side and only half worn on the outer side. Both the pads and rotors were replaced. 06/01/06 updated - consumer believes brake calipers are defective.
: the contact stated while applying the brakes, there is a metal to metal sound. At 10,000 miles the pads were replaced. The vehicle is making the same metal to metal noise again. An independent mechanic determined the outer pads were at 35%, but the inner brakes were metal to metal. The pads were replaced a second time.
In April I had my 30,000 mile maintenance check-up. At the end of November my speedometer failed and I took my car to the dealership. I was told I needed my brake pads replaced, which I agreed to. They also replaced my rotors. When I questioned the dealership with regard to the rotor wear, which I could not understand since I had the car inspected 3,000 miles earlier and the brakes were fine, I was told that this kind of wear is normal on this vehicle, and to expect to have to replace my pads and rotors every 15,000 miles. This problem is a safety hazard and needs to be resolved. In addition, I found out today that there are two TSB's (16685/17278) addressing this issue.
2003 Ford Focus. When the vehicle was first purchased front window came out. The dealership fixed it. Then, the trunk started popping open, the vehicle was fixed at the dealership where she purchased it. The vehicle was taken to another dealership, because she moved. They stated the vehicle needsednew brake pads. Te consumer told the dealership the vehicle made a noise on the passenger side by the front tire. The dealership did nothing about it. The vehicle was then taken to a tire company, they found the front rotors wore out, and this was a manufacturering problem. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership and they stated the vehicle needed new rotors and brake pads. Also a piece was coming off the vehicle between the two doors on the driver side between the windows. This vehicle just went over 15,000 miles when she was leaving the dealership. In addition, there iwas something wrong with the steering wheel, it was too hard to pull back, and it swerved in the other lane. The trunk was still coming open.
While applying the brakes a loud squeaking noise came from the vehicle. Driver took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that left and right brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced due to corrosion.
Driver's side wheel made a loud grinding noise when applying the brakes. When taken vehicle to dealer for service the front left brake pad wore out faster than all other three. The cause of why this was happening was undetermined.
I have replaced my rotors and brakes 3 times already and now they are starting to make that sound again where it starts to drag. I just replaced my brakes in may of 2004 and I have only driven it 8,000 miles. I still have 4,000 miles left on the warranty. I took it in to bill pierre Ford and they told me it was normal to have this niose and that there is plenty of brake left. I am thinking that they are wanting me to drive it until the warranty is up so I will have to replace the rotors and brake pads and pay out of my pocket instead of just replaceing them now! I am very irritated now cause I can not get any help and it is going to cost me another $600. 00 dollars!! I have already replaced them 3 times out of my pocket . What the hell is going on with Ford how can they get away with this!.

I have a brake problem with my 2005 Ford Focus that is similar to all Focus buyers and it becoming a serious problem please look into this brake issue.
When braking at any speed consumer heard a squeaking noise coming from brake rotors/pads. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Rear brake pads had to be replaced by the dealership because the consumer would hear a squeaking noise when braking.
Back at about 18000, I took my car to the dealer to have the brakes checked. They were squeaking and had excessive dust on rims. At times I would get a grinding noise. They said "all was fine. " I took my car back again with the same issues, at about 20000 miles and was told that I needed new brakes and since the rotors were "so thin" they needed to be replaced also. I asked about the service bulliten that is out on this issue and was told that "Ford" was not going to replace them. I am mad beyond belief that there is a "bulliten" on this issue and they refuse to fix it. This new of car should not have gone threw the brakes this quick. That is exactley what I was told on my independent evaluation. Now I am stuck paying for this even though Ford is well aware of this problem.
1)normal driving pattern; 2)brakes started to crunch at 31,000, this car was purchased new and still under warranty, but not for brakes. 3)took to Ford dealer on 10/15 they wanted $550. 00 plus to fix, my salesman told me he had never heard of this happening at such low mileage. Called Ford corporate, got no help with service rep, requested a call from supervisor, still haven't recieved a call back. Took to midas to fix, was repaired this morning.

I purchased a 2003 Focus from a dealer who had used it for a demonstration vehicle. The car was obtained on or about March of 2004 with about 5,600 miles. At the time the brakes seemed fine. Two weeks ago I heard a noise at 16,800 miles. When I pulled the wheels to inspect the brakes, I found the inner disc pads down to metal and the outer pads with about 1/8 - 1/4" remaining. The rotors are scored on both sides. How is this possible? I had the same problems with my taurus. Anyone else having these kind of problems? I am starting to think that there is a definite problem with Ford's front disc brakes, or that the read drums are hopelessly under powered.
2002 Ford Focus zx5. Brakes grind and squeal. At 10,777 miles (10,000-mile service), Ford dealership said front brake pads and rotors are completely worn out and need to be replaced at cost of $500. Car is unsafe to drive without replacing brakes.
My 2002 Ford fucus zx3 needed new brake pads and rotors after a mere 22,000 miles!! this service cost me $280 and is not covered under Ford's warranty. Clearly there is a problem with the braking system if a car needs new rotors before the first set of tires wear out.
Vehicle was making loud grinding sounds when brake was engaged, so I took it to dealer to have it checked and was told that brake pads and rotors were worn and would have to be replaced. Parts were not replaced because, according to Ford, this is normal wear. At 32,500 miles, rotor damage is not normal wear, especially when grinding sound begins once failure has occurred.
2002 Ford Focus with 23,600 miles required all new pads and rotors-- dealership has said that this is normal. . . For the Focus. . . And such work is not covered by warranty. Took the car to midas and had front brakes and rotors replaced (rotors couldn't even be turned!), mechanic at midas stated that replacing pads and rotors on a vehicle before the warranty has even expired is not normal, typical, or to be expected. Before replacing the brakes, there was chronically a large amount of brake dust on the front wheels.
Front brakes are not compatible with the vehicle, once the vehicle hits 10, 000 miles the brakes become defective, the rotors and the pads wore out to the metal.

Brake pads and rotors need to be replaced every 14,000 miles. Nothing has been done to fix the problem!.
Have only 23,000 miles on my Ford Focus 2002 wagon and it needs front pads and rotors. I have never had a car that needed rotors at 23,000 miles. This is a major safety and design defect.
I currently have a 2003 Ford Focus, which in general has been a pretty good car to me, if you take away the worries I've had about stopping! the brakes have squeaked since about 6 months after I got the vehicle (brand new) and when I took it in they said the pads and the rotors were gone. Not surprised since I had grinding and squeaking, but yet amazed that the car was so new with so little miles and the brakes are already having an issue. When the car was finished, it didn't squeak or grind for a couple of days - but then went right back to grinding and squeaking. I talked to another girl with an 03 Focus with the same issues. Why can't all of us with the 2003 Ford Focus get together and complain together? I am still worried everytime I drive it that one day it won't stop or something. This should not be an issue, for I pay for this vehicle every month and it should be serviced correctly. I also encounter many Ford engineers in dearborn michigan that say they have heard many reports such as this. Can I ask why nothing has been done about it? they say that the newer models have better break systems. . . How does that help the 2003 model owners?????? something should be done about this.
About 1 month after I bought my car the brakes started to squeak every time I would apply they brakes. It has continuted to do so up until even this morning. The rotors now have grooves in them ,and the brake pads still have well over 50% of the pad remaining. So far nothing has been done other than to say "it must be moisture. ".
