There are two recurring problems that really concern me:
1) transmission/powertain light has flickered on-and-off and then goes off completely. Initially I assumed it was a fuse or electrical problem. There have been several episodes, the scariest to date on 2-20-12 the car seemed to "lose gears," shuttered a little, and suddenly felt it was going to stall out on a short incline. My 15 year old daughter (with learner's permit) was at the wheel. It was frightening as the car felt it would roll backward with traffic stacked up behind her. 2) brakes: on two ocassions since I have owned the car (3. 5 months) the brakes, when applied (normal fashion) completely went to the floor without functioning: there was nothing there. A couple of minutes later, and only after pumping the brakes a few times, did the "brake function return. "
my mother had warned me about this - she also provided me with a file folder of all repairs she had made on the car. Twice; she had the master brake cylinder replaced! she complained to the Ford dealer in her hometown, who "brushed it off" and assured her there would be no further problems. In the last 3 weeks, the brakes failed again - and again, my 15 year old was at the wheel. I cannot tell you how frightening this was -
if NHTSA is aware of multiple complaints about a design failure; why hasn't Ford issued a recall to make the necessary repairs?.

I was driving from home to go to my parent home. I had to slow down due to traffic. My brakes failed. I was able to slow down by down shifting and hand brakes and had the car towed to the repair garage. The repair garage found that the passenger side rear brake cylinder had blown out and was squirting brake fluid all over. This the second time this had happened. The first time was in July 2007 when the driver side rear brake cylinder had failed on the freeway, causing major damage - odi # 10304293. Please investigate and take action to recall this serious life damaging component on a otherwise good vehicle.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic for an alignment. At that time, the contact was informed that the two front coil springs failed and needed to be replaced. The mechanic replaced the two front springs, the two rear wheel cylinders, and a brake line. The contact learned of NHTSA campaign id number 01i017000 (wheels:lugs/nuts and bolts), but it did not apply to her VIN. She called the dealer and was informed that the recall had expired. The current and failure mileages were 136,000. Updated 06/16/08.

I was driving on the freeway and the vehicle in front of me slowed, therefore, I used brakes. The brakes failed. I had barely enough time and space to move to the next lane and thereby hitting other vehicle. The car was towed to the repair garage and body shop. The repair shop determined that the driver side rear brake cylinder blew out and therefore brakes failure. There was brake fluid on the freeway. I avoided killing myself and others due to my safe driving training at the barber school, given to me by my parents when I turned 18. Please do something to recall these vehicles so other people will not die or get seriously injured.
For almost one month, loud humming in front right and both rear wheels and loud rear squeaking on braking revealed, after 4/20/06 inspection, failed wheel bearings in our Ford Focus se 2000 in right front and both rear wheels. Both rear cylinders were leaking fluid and right brake drum was failing. Many of the Ford Focus vins issued during 2000-2001 manufacturing years had wheel-bearing failure issues and consequent recalls. We were informed by "maria" at Ford motor company, today that our VIN was not one that had a wheel bearing issue. How, then, could three of our four sets of wheel bearings fail? ultimately, failed wheel bearings can lead to wheel failure and detachment leading to injury or death. Why isn't the NHTSA addressing this serious issue with Ford, as the manufacturer appears to be sidestepping its ethical and legal responsibility in this matter. We spent over $1,000 on this repair. Nine months ago, our front coil springs failed, which could also have led to a fatality. Ford assisted us then, but is doing nothing to help us now. Please note that because on ongoing teamsters strike, most Ford dealer shops were unavailable to service customer service or supply needs at the time we sought service. We seek reimbursement for repair of wheel bearings, rear drums and cylinders/lining. Wheel bearing service reimbursement is essential.
The brake system is horrible. They make noises all the time. I have replaced the cylinders and the shoes and it still does not sound right. The suspension is bad and needs replacing, but I can not afford it. I am a teacher. Cruise control has gone bad, because of a faulty wire.
Brakes squeak, excessive break dust on the front wheels. The consumer was informed by the dealer, that the brake dust was normal. The rear shoes pad assemblies and rotors were replaced at least four times. The last time the dealer told the consumer the left right ebrake cable spring retainer had popped out the backing plate which caused the shoes to not retract all the way. The dealer put the retainer back and reset the hebraic. Also the rear wheel cylinders was leaking and had to be replaced.
