39 Door problem of the 2005 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

My Ford Focus had a problem one year ago where a small plastic piece snapped inside the door which made the drivers side door inaccessible from the outside. A year later, today, the same thing happened with the passenger side door. Since this is a 2 door hatchback model, and the back hatch key lock is not working, there is no way to enter my vehicle. The piece that has broken is a small wedge shaped plastic component, which seems poorly made, and now requires me to spend over 300. 00 dollars, and I must wait 3 days before the car can even be inspected. I think this is a safety related issue, because what would happen if a person were to have their child in a car seat in the vehicle when they stepped out, and realized they could not enter. Also, what if someone were to consider their vehicle reliable, respond to an emergency, and then realize that they cannot assist because they no longer have entry to their vehicle. Besides the inconvenience this causes, it could indirectly or directly cause harm to a person. Manufacturers need to be held to a higher standard, especially when this could be an obvious tactic to promote extra business and profit of Ford sponsored companies.

42 Door problem of the 2008 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/12/2012

The front drivers side and rear passenger side doors cannot be opened from outside the car. The rear handle seems to pull normally but the mechanism does not work. The door can be opened from inside the car. The front driver side door handle pulls out loosely. When I tried to open the door 3 days ago something broke inside the door. The door can be opened from inside the car. The rear driver's side window mechanism failed right after I bought the car. The motor will go down but the window will not. I can pull it down by putting one hand on either side of the glass (after operating the button that would normally open the window) the window can be closed using the button.

44 Door problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

3 of 4 doors have now broken on my 2007 Focus, due to the same problem as what was recalled on the 05 model -- the doors will not latch and/or lock. The door mechanism is the same for 2000-07, so I'm not sure why 07 was not recalled as well. I paid the dealer over $1000 to fix the front driver and back passenger doors in 5/12, and now in 7/12, the back driver door is doing the same thing -- when you go to shut it, it just pops back open, as the latch does not catch. I had to drive home from my baby shower last night with the rear doors tethered to eachother to keep the door from flapping open while I drove down the road. I have spoken with the service manager at the dealership, as well as Ford corporate, and have basically been told it's not their problem and I am on my own to pay for the repair, because my car is "too old" (just 5 years from mfg date) and has "too high mileage" (not that the doors have anything to do with mileage) for Ford to take any responsibility for what is clearly an issue of cheap, faulty parts and poor workmanship. This problem is all over the internet, and is clearly not isolated to my vehicle. Ford should be ashamed of the fact that they have ignored this problem, which could cause serious injury to it's customers (just imagine if the latch had stopped working while I was doing 70 mph down the highway!), and neither I nor anyone in my family will ever buy another Ford!.

45 Door problem of the 2009 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Focus. The contact noticed that both passenger side doors, the rear driver side door, and the exterior door handles malfunctioned. The door handles could not be used to open the doors. The rear driver and passenger side doors would not unlock properly nor would they unlock when using the key fob or attempting to manually unlock the doors. The failure occurred multiple times. The dealer stated that the rod that was securing the locks needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.

46 Door problem of the 2008 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

My car has had issues with the doors for quite awhile. Its always been annoying, but its never really seemed like such a big deal to me. Today, hot summer day, I went shopping with my boyfriend, he said I'm going to go get your car I will be back, as 30 minutes pass he is finally back to tell me that my door will not unlock. The key would not unluck the door. I have had problems with the back doors just being stuck on lock for days at a time but it always eventually fixes itself, which is why I have never reported it before. But today I had to pay 30 dollars for a locksmith to come out and unlock my door. I am not very happy because I am a poor college kid who could really use that money on something else. As I research this online I see more than enough complaints about the very same thing happening to people with the same car that I have. It could have been very dangerous if for some reason there was a kid in the car that we could not get out. It infuriates me that no one will do anything about this. I think it is only fair that this problem be investigated and if necessary the cars be on recall to get fixed for free. Thank you.

51 Door problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/15/2005

We bought our car used in November of 2004, since then, we have had the driver door handle break twice and the passenger handle break once. Of course, this is not life threatening but it is really annoying to not be able to get your child in the back seat without having to unlock and open all the doors before you can get to the right door. We have had the handles replaced twice which was covered by the warranty, but it is broken yet again, and I'm not sure our extended warranty will cover it. It is obviously a manufacture problem, even though I can't find any other complaints of this nature.

68 Door problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/21/2002

The remotely controlled door locks spontaneously lock while the driver is outside of the car. This is a safety hazard. If there were small children in the car, or an elderly disabled person, the driver would be unable to get back in. If the car locked itself while a lone driver was in a dangerous desolate area, this too would be a hazard. I know of another woman who had the same problem with her Ford. Her dealer said that since her car was out of warranty, it could be fixed for $75. 00. My dealer says there is nothing wrong, and cannot be fixed. My car is still under warranty.

69 Door problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/27/2002

On 3-22-02 at night, parked, I tried to unlock the right rear door at the same time that the passenger attempted to open the door. The plastic door handle made a cracking noise and the door handle apeared to be looser than before without the tight return to original position. The door opened and closed properly. I did not think this was a priority repair so waited until my spring break the next week. On 3-27-02 I had the rear right door opened, I closed it and drove off. Within half a block the door swung opened at a stop light and a passing motorist told me about it before I drove off. I closed the door and proceeded down the hill, within 3 blocks the door swung opened again. I checked the handle and found it popped out into an open position. I forced it back into place, there was a similar cracking noise to that made when the original damage was caused. I drove immediately to the nearest Ford dealership where an appointment was made for 3-29-02. I did not carry anyone in the back seat until the repair was completed. The service order described the repair as, "removed right rear door panel-replaced inner handle-broken & out of position in ratchet assembly-retest-ok. The dealership treated this as a warranty repair. I am concerned that this is not a fluke accident, as the locks automatically engage when the car is put into gear, and unlocking the rear door at night would be a common occurrence. Passangers could be at risk, especially small children.
