1 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

Sever shuddering when shifting, especially from 1st to 2nd gear; pre-shifting at low rpm's and slipping gears; stalling and near-stalling when attempting to accelerate or when on an incline; back seats come unlocked and fly forward when you brake hard- contrarily the front seats fly back when accelerating . Ford demands payment for estimate/diagnostic even though they are well aware of the problems with this line of vehicle. Extended warranty was offered, at a significant charge- should be free!!!. These problems have been ongoing since I initially purchased the vehicle.

3 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

Our car Ford Focus 2014 purchased in tracy Ford, CA generates a horrible smell, localized in the back seat region. We've cleaned and scrubbed this area with soap twice, but the smell does not go away. The smell has been there for many months now, starting a few months after we bought the car brand new. It is an awful strong chemical smell. We are concerned because our two small children sit back there in that section of the car. Also, nobody wants to ride in this car because of the smell. The local Ford repair shop confirms the smell but cannot tell what it is. One dealer (tracy Ford) thinks it is chemical from plastic, the other dealer that made us pay 150$ for not fixing anything much, doesn’t know what caused it and will not perform any work other than the basic check because they said it would cost thousands of dollars to take apart more parts than the basic look around check. We are worried about what this smell is, as in is it dangerous or not. We asked Ford 800 number to investigate, but they said the dealer has to confirm that is a defect for them to cover the cost. While the dealer would not perform any further investigation, unless someone will pay the thousands of dollars. So we are stuck with a car that is too stinky to drive, paid 150$ only to be told that if we want them to investigate more, we have to pay thousands of dollars. The brand new car is both too stinky to drive, and too stinky to sell. It is brand new yet we could not drive it. The dealer and Ford are both washing their hands and don’t want to cover the cost. We want the manufacturer and dealer to investigate free of charge and to fix the problem for us free of charge.

4 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2006 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

2006 Ford Focus st. Driver side seat back has broken/cracked during normal operation. Reaching for change in pocket to go through a toll booth, seat back frame broke on the right hand side causing driver to lurch back toward back seat and temporarily lose control of the vehicle. Ford motor company refuses to assist in repairs. Seat back should never break as it is the only protection a passenger has in the event of a rear end collision. Seat back has not been repaired.

5 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/26/2009

I was involved in a rear end collision in my 2007 Ford Focus st. I was at a stop light and was rear ended by a tractor trailer traveling at approximately 20 - 25 mph. Upon impact the upper half of my drivers seat gave way causing my upper body to fall onto the lower part of the rear seat. It appeared the recliner mechanism gave out during the impact. This was something I was not prepared for. I was now in a position where my head was fully exposed to the on coming truck. There are multiple front safety features and only the seat back for rear safety features. If someone was sitting in the back seat behind my drivers seat they would have been seriously injured. I sent Ford motor company information regarding my concern with the reclining mechanism in December of 2009, on April 16, 2010 or there about Ford issued a recall for the exact concerns I had with my vehicle. However, my vehicle was not listed in the recall. This concerns me.

6 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/18/2007

Nhtsa campaign: 00v-418 - - in July 2007 we bought a 2000 Ford Focus wagon as a 2nd car. Upon lowering the back seat to load items, the seat separated from the hinge. Researching this problem on the internet I learned of the above NHTSA recall campaign and contacted Ford. They state that no recall was issued for my vehicle and refuse any further comment, even though the defect in my car is exactly as described in the recall notice. I even referred their "customer relations" office to your website as an "fyi" but they adamantly refuse to reply with any meaningful response. Although I intend to have the deficiency repaired at my own expense, I am very unhappy with Fords "stonewall" tactic and due to the circumstances I refer this matter to your agency in the event that you might be able to confirm whether, or not, my vehicle was involved in a recall for the particular item cited in campaign number: 00v-418 and/or if Ford is in violation of the recalls mandate. Thank you for your consideration.

7 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2005 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/27/2006

I owned a 2005 Ford Focus station wagon and suffered a rear end collision while stopped at a light. As a result of the poor seat construction, my lumbar spine was wedged in the gap between the seat cushion and the back cushion during the impact. At the time, I had the seat lowered for comfort. Unfortunately, as you lower the seat, you also create a gap between the seat cushion and the back cushion, exposing the lumbar spine to that gap. This is where my lower spine was wedged as a result of the rear-end collision. The back cushion has too little support to keep the spine from buckling and wedging itself, butt first. Now, the gap wasn't that big for me, only about an inch or so, but the seat padding around the gap is unsupported and flexible. Imagine now a rear end collision with a tall person sitting in that seat, where there is a considerable gap between the seat cushion and the back cushion, say maybe two or more inches. In a rear end collision, with the front brakes applied, the rear of the vehicle actually buckles upward and forward, while the bodies in the car move down and back, as in my case (since objects at rest [my body] respond only after the impact to the vehicle). Just watch all those dummy commercials. . . This is a serious safety hazard if you manipulate the lever to lower the seat cushion. Fact: the european Ford Focus driver seat moves as an entire unit (both seat cushion and back cushion move together as a unit, never creating such a gap) fact: the u. S. Model is the cheap alternative to give the impression of an adjustable seat. Instead, the lever lowers and raises only the seat bucket portion for the driver, while exposing a gap between it and the back cushion. The back support stays in the same place another fact: all european models have headrests in the back seat another fact: al u. S. Models have no headrests in the back seat.

8 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/14/2005

This complaint is being written to inform NHTSA about a potential failure I believe that my 2001 Ford Focus 4 door has lingering about in it. The potential failure is the back seat bottom (the part your rear end sits on) does not catch on the three lip edges attached to the car body. The metal base of the back seat bottom has three holes, one on each side and one in the middle. They correspond to the lip edges for which they do not catch on. I spoke with the general manager at the dealership regarding the issue after several attempts to get it fixed through the dealership service department. The service department told me that nothing was wrong with the back seat on several different occasions. The car was purchased containing all the child safety features available. Window locks, door locks, interior trunk release and the safety seat latch system. The service department told me that the back seat does not catch on the lip edges unless in an accident, then they should slide forward and catch, and that is only if someone is buckled down to the seat. Well, now I have an infant daughter to travel around with in my back seat. The general manager got the same answer from a Ford contact as I did from the service department. However, should my car be hit from behind and the back seat is empty and the question is does it catch on the lip edges or not. I fear that it will fly forward slamming the back of the driver and passenger seats and crush or push me into the steering wheel or through the windshield. The main concern I have is for the safety of my child. I believe that the seat should catch on the lip edges at all times and not just in an accident. Ford told the gm that they have never had a report of it being a problem nor did it ever occur in a crash test. I told the gm to give it to me in writing should an accident ever happen. I don't know what to do from this point. Please advise if necessary.

10 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/16/2004

Consumer's vehicle experienced the same defect as mentioned in NHTSA recalls 0v418000: vehicle description: station wagons and 3-door vehicles. The subject vehicles have a folding 60/40 second seat that becomes a load floor in the folded position. When the 60% portion of the seat is folded down and a load is applied to the front edge of the load floor, the outboard hinge pivot could disengage from the hinge. Dealer stated sorry this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

Failure Date: 05/14/2004

The consumer stated while driving at 35 mph the vehicle began to vibrate. The steering wheel was hard to turn and the consumer lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle fish tailed across the road and struck a mail box. At some point during the skid or impact with the mail box, both rear wheels dislodged from the vehicle. Additionally, the bolts holding the rear seat dismembered and the rear seat was ejected from the vehicle. One of the vehicle occupants died as a result of the accident and another was injured. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was deemed a total loss.

12 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/01/2000

The rear seat is stained each time you put it down- there are some black brackets that slide up onto the seat and they leave hideous black marks on the fabric in 8 places as well as on the clothes of the next person to sit there. My dealer replaced my back seat fabric but failed to repair the cause of the problem. It makes me especially angry that I paid $17,000+ for a car and I have to put a sheet down to have anyone sit in the back seat. I want Ford to fix the problem and replace the fabric one last time. Also, my friend margaret has the exact exact same car and hers does it as well. We have spoken to other Focus owners that have gotten no resolution from their dealer. Thank you.
