1 Seat Broken problem of the 2004 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/31/2017

Passenger heated seat caught on fire when heated seat was engaged. The vehicle was in motion on a city street when the seat started to smoke and fire started. There was a Ford customer satisfaction recall that I was never informed TSB 04b16. The fire caused damage to the leather seat and heating mechanism. Fortunately only a purse was injured and the driver was able to stop the fire from spreading. The attached pictures show the seat damage. The car also smells of smoke. The experience was extremely scary and awful.

3 Seat Broken problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/19/2016

While commuting to work on the highway and coming to a stop due to traffic the vehicle was hit from behind at appx 50mph. My wife saw the imminent impact a split second before it happened & tried to apply the brakes as hard as possible so as not to hit the car in front of her (appx 20-25 feet away). Nonetheless, the impact was too great. It totally destroyed the rear of our car and blew out the back glass. It also pushed our car into the car in front which damaged the right front, bent the hood in the front middle section, made the undercarriage pop out, and broke the radiator. There may have been additional front end damage but the hood was not opened at the time. What's worse, in all of this, the vehicle's air bags never deployed! so, my wife hit her head on the steering wheel twice. Moreover, the seat back broke which created a potentially paralyzing and/ or deadly condition due to her body's momentum as opposed to the car's momentum (I. E. , she had no back stability)! lastly, her knees were jammed into some portion of the dash/ steering column. My wife has sustained some injuries and we are currently getting her treated.

4 Seat Broken problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/23/2015

On 10/23/2015 at 51,289 miles, I took the car in because the car intermitterly would not start & when taking off from 1st to 2nd gear, it was jerky. I would have to let off the gas. I also experienced a rubbing & scraping sound that I found out is what they said was the transmission clutch shuddering. The clutch & tcm (transmission control module) were replaced under the Ford technical service bulletins tsb15-0120 & TSB-15-0121. On 10/12/2016 at 71,906 miles, I took the car back into the same local Ford dealer for shuddering again. They replaced the clutch again & reprogrammed the pcm/tcm & preformed an adaptive learn procedure. I still experience a grinding sound mainly while turning, but have been assured that it is normal & not an issue. My most recent issue is my airbag light came on stationary (no flashing). I currently have less than 80,000 mile on the car. I took it into my local Ford dealer & the car gave code dtc b00c2-11-ocsm (right front seatbelt retractor assembly shorted). It will cost over $700 to replace!!! I was told if I am in an accident where the airbags need to deploy, they will not deploy. . . . . . None of them! less important problems I've experienced is the manual lumbar in the driver seat broke & the "beauty ring" around the headlight switch cracked. Ford does not sell just that piece. You have to buy the whole cover that also goes around the air vent right above it even though they are separate pieces clipped together, which is $45.

6 Seat Broken problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/27/2014

The Focus was stopped at the scene of another accident when it was rear ended at highway speed (55 mph approximately) by a driver who did not see it stopped. The car was pushed into the rear end of the car stopped in front of it. The rear hatch of the car was pushed in past the rear axle and the front end sustained heavy damage. The car was a total loss yet none of the air bags, front or side deployed. I sustained a head injury from hitting the steering wheel and the drivers seat broke when I was thrown backwards after hitting the car in front of me.

8 Seat Broken problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/30/2009

I have a 2003 Ford Focus. Since I had the car from 2004 on, I have had to replace the driver side front seat because the seats driver door side back welding failed. The broken welding causes the seat to twist to the right. Seat was replaced at my cost and replacement also broke at the same place. Dealer refuses to acknowledge issue. I believe that may have also been a major contributing factor to a recent injury of my lower back since I had not received any trauma from any other source that I am aware of. A cursory review of the internet turns up dozens of complaints for the same issue. Please note the date provided for the incident is the approximate date the second seat broke. The first one broke in 2006. Both seats are available for your inspection should you want to review.
