The contact was informed that the microchip connected to the power steering failed and needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 14v514000 (steering) however, the VIN was not included. The contact later went to larry h. Miller super Ford (1340 500 w, salt lake city, ut 84115) where she was informed to schedule an appointment for the vehicle to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

I was backing out of a parking space in a parking garage when the steering locked up on the vehicle. I was unable to turn the steering wheel to drive the car. There was no message or alert on the vehicle dash. I had to wrestle the steering wheel with great difficulty to get the car in position to be towed, as the vehicle was undriveable. The dealership determined that the electric assist power steering rack had failed and needed to be replaced. Since the vehicle was 2 months out of warranty, I had to pay for the repair ($2,840). If the steering failed while driving on an interstate, an accident could have occurred.

On Feb 1st 2021 the power steering fail while driving down the road on city street. A collusion was avoid thanks to other drivers swerving out of the way. A error message appear on the dash reporting power steering fault. We park the car in a parking lot for several hours until traffic was cleared up in the hopes we could get the car home. When we went back the issue was resovled and we drove to the dealer to diagnose. The dealer was able reproduce the issue and replaced the entire steering rack.

Called Ford motor company and said no recall on defective steering. Took to Ford. Dealer and quoted me $2573 to repair. Luckily my teenage daughter was not traveling on highway when this occurred. Ford needs to take accountability on this defective steering issue before someone gets injured.

The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the recall. The contact stated manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The approximate failure mileage was 113,673. Gl.

Power steering failed 10. 26. 2019. Wife had mentioned to service advisor that she had a warning msg about a year ago during a normal servicing of her vehicle and asked for someone to do a check on it. The result was nothing is wrong with the epas and there was no written instruction on her service invoice which is odd, because she specifically ask that the epas be check while they were doing her oil change. Over the last year the warning msg came back usually during extreme changes of weather. My wife called the dealer where she has service work done to report additional warning msgs. The service rep asked my wife to describe what the msg was and when it occurred. The service rep acted as if he had never heard of this problem but said he would note it. This failure on 10. 26. 2019 occurred when I just left home. I was able to return home and park in the driveway. I cannot imagine my wife trying to drive with this problem that happens with no warning. I've grew up driving cars w/o power steering, but this epas failure is beyond anything she could handle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000. Aw.

The electric-assist power steering has begun to fail. Randomly when I start the car and I get an alert on the dash about the power steering system along with the orange safety alert icon. The car has no power steering at all. I turn the car off and then restart. Usually, this clears the error and brings the power steering back online. I have occasionally had to restart the car more than once. This has also happened to my husband while driving. We had to pull over and he restarted the car multiple times to get the power steering back online. It is increasing in frequency and is to the point we have an appointment for the fix which will cost us over $2500.

At 56,000 miles, the vehicle's power steering failed. This resulted in heavy and inaccurate steering inputs which could result in an accident. Ford is quoting a repair bill in excess of $2,400. I do believe that the problem is related to the recall in 2018 affecting 1/2 million Fords and the recall from 2014 affecting over 1 million Fords for similar steering related issues and premature failure. I have never had steering fail and have owned many vehicles over 200k miles including my 1989 f250. The technician said upon inspection that the steering gear was full of water and dirt causing corrosion. I'm a normal commuter on everyday roads. He specifically said it's not anything that I could have done that caused the problem. He said the boots were completely in tact and he couldn't comment on how the contaminants entered the steering gear. This leads me to believe it is faulty design. If it were anything other than steering or brakes, I probably would not be voicing my concerns in this forum because this represents a huge safety concern. Ford must cast a wider net with regard to existing recalls and the 2015 Focus should also be included. As of this writing there are 47 other reports to NHTSA for this car and problem.

Ford franchise dealer store has verified that this issue happens on 2012-2014 Ford fusion and Focus and the issue happens without car being hit or involved in any accident. Ford has already announced recalls for 2011-2014 escape, explorer, and mariner for power steering defect. I have experienced the exact same situation described for those recalls. The power steering has completely failed. It is very difficult to turn the car, especially at low speeds.

Power steering failed while vehicle was moving on surface road making it nearly impossible to safely steer out of traffic. Failure came on suddenly and without warning.

This is a common problem and Ford has recalled the steering unit on other model, but not on Focus. Cost $2160 to repair. Transmission shutters at low speeds making it difficult to control. Had it into Ford several times to diagnose and they state it is within parameters of this dual clutch type transmission. Ford had extended warranty for transmission but refused to replace mine under warranty.
