The vehicle was taken to jim charlon Ford, inc (760-371-1331, located at 269 s china lake blvd, ridgecrest, CA 93555) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,300.

The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. The failure mileage was 130,000.

Power steering failure at startup. Initially, this was intermittent and restarting the car would solve the issue. Eventually, the power steering failed completely despite restarting the car. The power steering failed only on startup, not when driving.

With increasing frequency the power steering fails at startup. I turn the car off and back on again, seems to be a quick fix, but I worry something is actually broken.

The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electronic power steering needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. An unknown dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

I went to the store just fine when I left the store it was almost impossible to turn the wheel and a alert came on the screen and said something about the power steering assist fail thankfully I was not far from home I had to use every muscle I had to steer it and make turns. I took it in for diagnosis I was quoted over $2200 and would still need and alignment and computer rest 😡 my car is stuck in the driveway till I get the extra $2200 to pay for it thanks Ford for my first car experience.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while their daughter was operating the vehicle, the vehicle suddenly lost power while in traffic. Their daughter had assistance pushing the vehicle into a nearby gas station. They learned that, as indicated on the recall, the fuel gauge did not accurately read the level of fuel within the vehicle. The contact stated their daughter now makes sure to keep the fuel tank a minimum of half full to avoid the failure reoccurring. The contact then stated that while parallel parked and attempting to move from the park position, they noticed the power steering had failed and the vehicle became difficult to operate. The contact's daughter had taken the vehicle to the dealership (metro Ford chicago located at 6455 s western Ave, chicago, IL 60636 phone number 888-667-9088) who informed them that the vehicle was not covered under the recall or by warranty. The vehicle had not been officially diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, however, they only suggested that the contact have the vehicle repaired and seek out reimbursement if the vehicle was later included in the recall. Power steering would fail unexpectedly. At times while driving. Only remedy was to replace.

Many people are aware of the transmission control module problem with the 2013 Ford Focus that has been recalled. However, I have had another problem with my Ford Focus that I researched and found that many more people are having the same or similar problem with their fuel tank collapsing and needing to replace most of the components in the entire fuel system. I had the purge valve replaced as an out of pocket expense as my extended warranty has expired, hoping this would fix the problem. I was informed by the mechanic that to fix my car completely, it would most likely need a new fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel line and of course the purge valve ( which I had replaced ). My car is only 5 years old and I do not know how or why I need to replace the entire fuel system. I have seen many posts describing the same situation on carcomplaints. Com and know of someone locally who I know personally who has the exact same problem with their 2013 Ford Focus. When driving, my engine will shut off completely. From time to time, my oil light will come on as my engine stalls out and tries to 'die' and I can press the gas to 'revive' the engine and keep it from shutting off. This repair of the fuel system was estimated to cost $2,000 to repair and I just don't have it. I listed my car online for $5,400 as is and have no one interested in it at that price after I've invested nearly $20,000 in this car in the 4 years I've been making payments, maintenance and repairs on it. I've also had the power steering replaced on this vehicle when I had around 80,000 miles on it. The power steering failed while in motion and almost caused an accident. This particular vehicle is a dangerous one. Buyer beware.

Power steering has been going "in and out" for about 1-2 years. Resolved temporarily typically by restarting engine. However, power steering permanently failed 9/9/18. Took my car in multiple times prior to this with no resolution. Looking at a $2100 bill to replace whole steering gear. Multiple electrical issues with cars computer. Called customer care stating Ford knew about the issue (2017 dismissed lawsuit)-- but warranty was relied to get out of the cost responsibility. Mileage around 94-96,000.

Occassionally when first starting this vehicle an alert will appear on the dash, saying power steering assist has failed, contact Ford service dealer and the power steering will not work. If I shut the engine off and restart the power assist will work, so far.

Power steering failure, the power steering locked up one day when I went to the store,I started the car& the power steering was locked and extremly hard to steer, I finally drove it home which was about 15 miles, I had to drive very slow because it was very hard to steer, the car was parked in a store parking lot and when I returned to the car it was very heavy to turn the wheel I was afraid to drive it home but I didnt want to leave it overnight in a store parking lot. . .

Sudden loss of power steering. Electronic power steering failure while driving.

Power steering assist failure. Driving around town all day, parked the vehicle then upon restarting the power steering assist no longer works. This car has less than 34,000 miles.

Loss of power steering on public road. Power steering assist failure.

Power steering failure. Needs total replacement. Vehicle only has 46,000 miles. I was lucky I was not driving it, when it went out. I am guessing the temp that day had something to do with it. Temp was 85 that day.

Power steering rack began to fail, took into shop and as they removed it to replace it it fell apart. I was advised by the shop that should this had failed on the freeway I could have died due to having zero steering ability.

Power steering failure at 63000 miles. Resulting in $2222 bill to replace power steering gear assembly. Error code "steering assist fault service required" was displayed 5-8 times while backing up at startup on prior occasions. For all prior occasions restarting the car cleared the issue. On the last occurrence the issue would not clear leaving the car with manual steering.

On April 7th 2018 I started my 2012 Ford Focus and the steering wheel was locked solid the warning lights lite up stating electronic power steering assist failure. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it 3 times until it started working again. I went right to the dealer where I bought the vehicle. They claim there is no recall. I did some research find that there's been over 120 injuries and one death related to the power steering failure on these vehicles. This is happened to my vehicle now totaling 10 times and now I'm terrified to drive the vehicle which concerns of as I'm on the road the steering locks up when I get in a crash or accident. The NHTSA and Ford know of this problem. This is a major issue that must be addressed. Please help I was stationary it's time and just hoping and praying this doesn't happen to me when I'm on the highway at 70 miles an hour like it has done to other people and have been injured.

My vehicle has on multiple occasions experienced a complete power steering system failure. The most recent of which occurred with my 1 year old daughter in the car; I was entering a turn when the display alarm sounded with the failure causing me to lose control and drive off the road. Ford company is refusing to honor my warranty claiming the part is not covered (a steering sensor), though the steering column itself is covered. I have been told by the service advisor the column cannot be replaced without also replacing the sensor and the sensor cannot be replaced without also replacing the column. It seems they have found a loophole with what is known to be a dangerous hazard to their vehicle. In point of fact the new york times has even written an article in 2015 documenting power steering failure and the injuries that have occurred due to it.

Power steering failed. The entire power steering rack was replaced which includes the power steering control module (pscm). The power steering failure began on 3/1/18 and was initially resolved by turning off then turning on the car. This worked for two weeks. Complete failure occurred on 3/14/18. The pscm is not serviceable and is not a separate component of the power steering rack resulting in a high cost repair on a low mileage vehicle. The vehicle has 35948 original miles. This system is referred to as the electronic power assisted steering (epas) system and has been recalled on the Ford flex, taurus, and the Lincoln mks and mkt 2011 through 2013 models, but not recalled on the Ford Focus even though it is the same problem and faulty equipment design.

Three times the power steering has failed at vehicle start. Required turning car off and back on to resolve.

Starting in October 2017, my power steering failed while operating my car. The problem has started happening intermittent and unexpectedly. Sometimes, the issue occurs when turning on the car (before ever turning the steering wheel). Car worked well yesterday. Turned it on today amber light and tone power assist steering need service. Power steering failed overnight. Car has about 41k miles on it, estimate for repair $2000+.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 55 mph, the steering wheel seized and the steering assist warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled over, turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the power steering failed to reset. The vehicle was able to be driven without power steering. The vehicle was taken to currie motors Ford of valpo (2052 w morthland dr, valparaiso, in 46385, (219) 464-3523) where it was diagnosed that the strut and pinion in the power steering needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed her not to drive the vehicle because the front wheels would turn in different directions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 41,000.

Power steering failed around 75000 miles suddenly while driving. I let it be because it went away after turning the car on and off but since January 2018, the car has been permanently without power steering. Ford customer service was no help and only requested that I get a diagnostic that cost 100$. The diagnostic confirmed what I said - that the steering needed to be replaced and that it was not working. They estimated the repair at 2100$. This is a safety issue. If something were to run out in the road I would not be able to turn the wheel fast enough. Additionally, I don't drive others really anymore because I don't feel comfortable putting their safety at risk. This is a safety issue that Ford needs to fix. I am a loyal customer and I wrote to Ford execs (yes wrote because they would not give me a number) multiple times in the past few months. Their response was that NHTSA said it wasnt an issue so they aren't going to do anything. Nhtsa needs to step up and require Ford to remedy this issue. There are thousands of complains for this issue and there have been recalls made for the same issue in other Ford models, so I am unable to understand how this has not been recalled for the 2012 Ford Focus. Its an embarrassment for Ford and NHTSA and makes me and probably all of these other previously loyal customers not want to buy Ford again. Take action. People and their safety are depending on you.

Driving home in traffic my cars power steering failed and it became difficult to steer. Was able to struggle with steering to get it home. Later went out to moved car and steering was fine. Called Ford and they said they are aware of the issue but no recall yet. Extremely dangerous. Ford must be waiting for more related death before issuing a recall. Repair cost $1600 - $2300! real nice Ford.

I was driving down a county road, traveling about 25 mph as I was about to make a turn, when my power steering completely fails. I nearly drove straight through a metal fence trying to make the turn to get off the road. Now when I turn my key forward my cars computer sends a message saying "steering loss, safely park vehicle" the issue I am referring to by checking "unknown/other" is a shuddering transmission. Everytime my car is going through first gear the transmission shudders. This gets much worse when when my car is close to being due for an oil change. Ive serviced the car regularly and some months had to get multiple oil changes to try and combat the transmission shuddering.
