36 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/29/2023

See incident 11525260 for details, as it describes both incidences where the abs control module failed. I am logging a second complaint so that the second module failure is recorded. Short version: the abs control module failed again, leaving me with no brakes. The valve gets stuck open inside the module, making the brake pedal unpredictable and sometimes with no stopping power. Ford is unable to fix my car in a timely manner, and is refusing to provide a vehicle to drive until they fix it 2-3 months from now.

37 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

I received a recall dated June 2023 about my transmission. It is the first one I have ever received. I had it towed to stanley Ford mcgregor and service said that there wasn't anything wrong. I was told I need to pay them $165 for a recall review???? I don't feel safe driving it as it slips, bucks, jerks, shudders, delay when shifting as well as having difficulty in changing gears causing many "almost accidents. " I just found out Ford settled on 2020 judgement and a 2022 judgement. I had no idea. It is plagued with numerous problems and safety concerns. I have written a letter to the general manager, mike f at stanley Ford mcgregor as well as sent copies to jim farley, ceo of Ford and fmc customer relationship center. I asked them to get back with me as I will not pay that $165 and drive an unsafe car that I don't want to put my 1 yr old grandson at risk as well.

38 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/19/2023

While driving on interstate ,my car suddenly started hesitating and failed to pick up speed. The engine light came on. I pulled over, but did not turn car off fearing it would not restart, to look at owners manual. The problem continued as I drove home. I have driven it once for a short distance since and there was no change. This could cause an accident since it happened unexpectedly while driving at high speed. Brake light fault warning light is illuminated although light appears to be working. This could cause rear end collision if not operating. Luggage compartment opens while driving which causes visibility issue and chance of items stored there to blow out and cause accident. I can not tell if this issue is included in recall addressing locks and latches. Driver side window no longer operates, preventing escape if needed.

39 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/15/2023

Intermittent loss of brake pressure. Abs would activate and leave the brake pedal feeling soft and having low brake pressure. This problem would randomly fix itself and then randomly happen again while braking normally or after the abs would engage. Sometime the problem would last for weeks until suddenly the brake pedal would be firm and have strong brake pressure.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

[two incidents involving the same abs control module. Early January 2023 and late may 2023] abs control module failed while going downhill (valve stuck open). Resulted in the brake pedal going to the floor. Had to stop by downshifting and the using hand brake. Whenever brake pedal is pressed after this, it goes a random distance to the floor with no pressure before applying some brake. Ford quoted me a 1 year lead time on replacing the part (and mentioned this is part of a pending recall. This recall will come out after they redesign a new module). They refused my request for a rental/loaner vehicle until it is fixed. I brought it to an independent garage to get the unit replaced. After that, my brake pedal worked as expected for a few months. Last week, the pedal went to the floor again. I brought it to a Ford dealership, and they confirmed that the new module already experienced the same failure as the original one. It is currently at the dealership, who will not have a part to repair my car again until August. I was refused a loaner vehicle by both the dealership and corporate Ford over this pending safety recall, where they are unable to fix my car. I was told by they dealership that they won't stop me from driving my car in the mean time if I feel safe doing so. It is not safe, so I am leaving the car at the dealership. I do not have a date for when a new revision module will be made, along with official recall. Ford is refusing to reimburse me for my initial repair until they get around to officially announcing the recall. I also found out from them that they reprogrammed the abs control module back in March 2013 while they reprogrammed a different module (I only new about the tcm reprogram). This means they knew the abs module had issues 10 years ago, a month after I bought the car. They did nothing for 10 years despite the fusions having the exact same issue. This is a blatant disregard for the safety of their customers' safety.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/03/2023

I was moving my car in a gas station parking lot and went to stop the car to go in reverse and the breaks went to the floor and I pushed them about five times and still no breaks. I hit a concrete column and air bags didn't deploy and the airbag lights were blinking on and off and speedometer needle was going crazy. Officer went to assist with moving the car to a curbside and in neutral the car was trying to go forward then when it was put in park it continued to try to go forward. We were not on a hill, it was flat in the parking lot. If this would have happened on the main roads my son, nephew and myself could have been hurt and if I had hit someone else they could have been hurt as well. I know have a adjusting checking the vehicle and a mechanics shop as well. Before this happened I had absolutely no warning.

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/21/2022

All lights came on and vehicle immediately slowed down, brakes became hard and it eventually just stalled out. Would not restart. Towed to repair shop . Mechanic found that the oil was full but no oil to engine. Found that the oil pump belt had malfunctioned and tore up leaving debris in the oil pan. Vehicle has approx 66,000 miles on it and manual says this piece if equipment should last until 150,000. Upon research, this is a common occurrence in the 2017, 2018 Ford Focus.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/30/2022

This vehicle was brought into jiffy lube and we inspected the vehicle. We noticed rust on the passenger rear of the car and we looked at the brakes on the passenger rear and there is little to almost no rotor left maybe a fingernail thin and it is not attached to the wheel anymore it has been cut from it and now is hanging on by what’s left of the brake pad. We gave him almost more than half off of what we can do to get it fixed and give the oil change what he came in for for free but declined and just wanted the oil change. I was scared for him to leave the shop because it is unsafe and endangering me and other people that are on the road around this area. But the customer did not seem to care how dangerous it could actually be on the road and didn’t seem like he was in any rush to get it fixed as well.

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

I've been experiencing an electrical issue. I have lost power to my break lights completely. There was no warning lights or signs at all. I was pulled over and made aware by a police officer that my break light were out. I proceeded to try to replace the light itself which did not work, it only continues to blow the dust when I try. I had a mechanic inspect it and he told me there seems to be a short or possible broken wire somewhere in the wiring harness.

53 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/16/2021

There have been several instances, while driving highway speed limits and when braking, the car accelerates for a few seconds before the vehicle brakes and slows down. This can be very dangerous especially if traffic stops unexpectedly. I have a couple close calls. There weren't any warning lamps given and I have not taken it in to dealership to examine. I have not inquired with dealership mechanic if this was an occurrence they have encountered.

54 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/12/2021

This cars braking system is inconsistent enough to cause major damage or death. The abs module sticks the same as in Fords previous recall "fsa 19s54" for 2006-2010 models fusion, Mercury milan, and Lincoln mkz. They recalled a part causing abs braking issues on those models and the exact same issue is happening in my 2012 Focus and will cost upwards of $2000 to fix, essentially making the car a lemon and not worth fixing. When the abs fires as you brake over rough surfaces or bumps or rain, the brake pedal goes very deep and almost loses all braking ability. I had to swerve into another lane to avoid someone and was lucky enough that no oncoming traffic was there. Thankfully I'm a good enough driver not to have crashed. They can't stop making a car in an effort to avoid past carelessness. They must issue a recall or reimburse people for the part itself "abs module" which is now 1. 5 months backordered. Thank you.

When coming from a complete stop at a red light upon pressing the gas to put yhe vehicle in motion again , it stalls before taking off. The airbag under the steering wheel deployed when my knee bumped it. When putting gas in the car the car will not start back up , it starts n turns off on its own.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

On an icy road I braked and the abs system engaged slowing the vehicle. After that, the brake pedal travels much farther before braking occurs during normal everyday driving. If I pump the pedal a couple of times the brake pedals engages the brakes like it used to. A local automotive repair business could not find anything wrong with the brake system. I did an online search and found my exact symptoms listed in Ford recall 19s54. . Read more...

58 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/23/2020

I was driving on a busy highway where the speed limit is 70 miles per hour, and the car suddenly slowed down while I was stepping on the gas, until it stopped and then cut off in the middle of I-40, while other cars sped by me swerving out of the way in order to not crash into me from behind. I then took the 2012 Ford Focus se to my mechanic, and after he investigated the malfunction, he said he observed the gas tank of the car "breathing in and out like a diaphragm or a lung" due to an excessive vacuum, which he thought had also damaged other parts of the fuel system beyond just normal wear and tear. The mechanic told me to take the Ford Focus to a Ford dealership right away, because a fuel tank moving in that way causes fissure cracks to develop inside of it that could cause a tank to leak gasoline or rupture during a crash, potentially causing an explosion. The mechanic also told me he could not imagine that the Ford dealership wouldn't remove and then replace the fuel tank on my car, because not doing so in his opinion would be extremely dangerous. Then I took the car to the Ford dealership located 2807 east millbrook road, raleigh, north carolina, 27604 - phone number: (984)232-7601, and they told me that it looked fine to them, and that the car door hinges were also under recall and they weren't going to replace those either. Then I told the Ford dealership that I'd already taken the car to another mechanic first, and that I thought they were trying to repair as little as possible and do as little repairs as they could get away with; then I asked them to reexam the car again. But if I hadn't already taken that vehicle to a different mechanic first, the Ford dealership would have given it back to me in an extremely dangerous condition rather than making the necessary repairs that Ford is being forced to do by the government.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/06/2020

The mechanic told me to take the Ford Focus to a Ford dealership right away, because a fuel tank moving in and out that way, causes fissure cracks to develop inside of it that could cause a tank to leak gasoline or rupture during a crash, potentially causing an explosion and/or fire. The mechanic also told me he could not imagine that Ford motor company wouldn't remove and then replace the fuel tank on my car, because not doing so in his opinion would be extremely dangerous. The dealership that is representing the Ford motor company who will ultimately approve the replacement of the fuel tank or not, attempted to and would have given the car back to me in an extremely dangerous condition rather than making the necessary repairs that Ford motor company is being forced to fix by the us government.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/18/2020

2012 Ford Focus known to have transmission problems. Brakes rumble when being pressed. I am concerned about the safety of the transmission. I have seen that Ford has known about this problem. What is Ford doing to correct this problem.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/27/2020

I was driving down the street, and my car lost power in the middle of traffic. I couldn't do anything except let the car coast to the nearest side street. This is the first time it has gotten to this particular degree. Before this happened, I was on my way home and as I was leaving the stop light, the car hesitated and took a while before the speed would pick up. It also did some weird things that I can't explain, but know that it shouldn't have happened. After this first incident, I immediately contacted Ford and complained about the problem. I was advised that the car had two extended warranties and I should take it into a authorized dealer and have the vehicle diagnosed and that if it was a transmission module issue or something to that effect, it would be covered under the warranty and the repairs would be done at no cost. I took the vehicle to a Ford dealership in tennessee and was told that my vehicle had an branded title and the dealership refused to put the car on the machine unless Ford corporate called them directly with an authorization code. I called Ford corporate back and explained to them what the issue was and the agent put me on hold and called the dealership and gave him all the information he needed to start the work on my vehicle. About three hours later, I was contacted by the dealership and was told to pick up my vehicle because someone from Ford had contacted him and said that my warranty was no good. I emailed the ceo at Ford corporation, and after two weeks, still haven't heard back from him. I called the corporate office again and was told the same thing as before, which is that my car has two extended warranties and the work should have been done because one warranty covers the transmission whether it has a branded title or not. Now, I have a car sitting up, unnecessary expenses and a dent in my back bumper.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

Power steering assist, failure: engine failure to start: power brake assist, failure: transmission control module, failure: clutch failure and shift roughness:. Car unuseable for three years without because of parts inavailability: this type even happened mutiple times because of the transmission control module failure. The first sign of problems was shuddring and rough shifting beginning with about 30,000 miles on the vehicle multiple trips to the Ford dealerships resulted in unsatisfactory action by Ford motor company to repair the problem the result was safety problems like stalling and losing power steering and brake assist in traffic. It displayed multiple system failure warnings when it failed, steering asist, brake assist, abs, transmission position light was in park while driving. We tried to get repairs done but they just kicked it down the road till we fought with the car to get 160,000 miles out of it because there was no other choice and they denied there was a problem. It was completely unserviceable beginning on the shown date because the clutch control and transmission control module have been faulty, it has started a few times but will not shift properly and the clutch is faulty because of the control module being bad. We paid to have the control module replaced when it became available, but the vehicle is not servicable because the clutch and flywheel are damaged from the module being faulty. This should have been a safety recall as soon as the problem was discovered, but it was hidden and the owners of these vehicles have had to deal with it over the last 10 years. Any of these cars on the road are just as dangerous as this one it. Is still at the shop 4 months after they tried to patch it awaiting the determination of whether a clutch recall will fix it or not. These owners of these cars are driving time bombs if they are not able to react to the problems listed in traffic.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/29/2020

Back at the end of June, first part of July I had a check engine light on and then the next day it was off but some stupid "my key came on and not it regulates my speed and volume. I am not paying over $200 to have it removed. But the most important thing is the clutch on my transmission is out and Ford won't replace it for free and I dont have the money to fix it. I believe Ford should fix it for free since they can't build good transmissions.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2004 Ford Focus

In January, I was involved in a traffic crash. I applied the breaks to my vehicle (giving plenty of time to come to a stop and only traveling 20 mph ) but the vehicle did not come to a complete stop. As a result, I hit a vehicle in front of me. I do not know what the vehicle would not stop. It was as if the breaks were not working correctly.

Purchased 9/2018. Care has been shaking likes its going to fall apart ever since then. . Also when I barely tap the breaks its stop so suddenly the jilt forces me forward. . Today 9/13/19 the transmission fault message came on. And went off. Then when I start the car back up to check systems. . The message system says all systems normal and the light didnt come back on after driving it around, shift from reverse to drive, and shutting of and starting up car 3 different times.
