Driving 45 mph ran over small piece of rubber in road and side impact air bag deployed when there was no impact.
My daughter was driving our 2007 Ford Focus. She was on a smooth road, when the driver side airbag opened for no reason. It hit her on the side of the head, causing her to have hearing loss for 2 minutes as well as a headache. It also caused her to swerve the car slightly, but she had total control. I took the car to magic city Ford in roanoke, va, they ran some tests and contacted the Ford corp. Between the two of them, it was decided that my daughter was a fault, and that she had to have hit something. I inspected the car myself on sat, and there is no damage to the car. Ford just wants to sweep this under the carpet, along with magic city Ford.

I was driving down the interstate through an interchange around a curve, when I hit what I thought was a pothole. The next thing I knew, the car filled with smoke and my shoulder felt as if I had been slugged by someone. After coming to my senses, I realized my side airbag in my seat had deployed as I drove down the interstate. I have never had an airbag deploy, and had no idea what had happened. My driver's seat in my Ford Focus 2007 is now ripped down the side where the airbag deployed and no Ford dealership will replace the seat. According to the "blackbox" that records what happens in a vehicle, the technician explained, my vehicle had a 360 degree spinout that created enough force for my airbag to deploy, and that my insurance company would have to fork up the cost of replacing my seat. I have been battling this for about 2 years now!!!!!!.
Passenger side impact air bag deployed after hitting a pot hole in the road doing about 25 mph.
I was driving my Ford 2005 Focus in new york city and my driver's side curtain air bag deployed while driving. The whole driver's seat and door trim needed to be replaced.

2002 Ford Focus side airbag deployed while driving. Consumer states that the airbag deployed with a loud bang. Stated that it was kind of an explosion. The consumers son experienced ringing in his ears, reduced hearing and a severe headache from the explosive force of the air bag.
I was in an auto accident and my side airbags did not deploy. Can you explain why? I owned a 2007 Ford Focus.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the driver's side air bag sensor would continuously illuminate on the instrument panel. The dealer removed the entire dashboard in order to replace the mechanism. The repairs were covered under warranty. Less than a year later, the vehicle was taken to the dealer again for routine maintenance to the steering wheel. It was discovered that the passenger side rear door would not lock and the driver's side air bag sensor continued to illuminate on the instrument panel. The dealer could not duplicate the failures. A diagnostic was performed; however, no error codes were produced. The contact also stated that while making left or right turns, the steering wheel felt as if it would pop off. The dealer found a defect with the steering column and had the component replaced. The service manager at the Ford dealer stated that there may be an issue with the air bags for a plethora of reasons. The contact stated that the driver of the vehicle does not feel safe operating the vehicle. He was very leary of operating the vehicle on the highway due to the fact of not having a functioning air bag in the event of a crash. No additional repairs have been made to the air bags. The failure mileage was 31,000 and current mileage was 53,786.
I own a 2007 Ford Focus. I purchased the se model new because of the additional safety features such as front and side air bags. My daughter was involved in a serious accident on 4/5/08 where a car pulled out in front of her. Her Focus hit the car dead center between the drivers car door and the passenger car door. The impact was almost a perfect frontal impact which destroyed the entire front of the Focus. No airbags deployed and my daughter suffered a bruised chest, neck and back pain from the seat belt. I'm concerned that there is a problem with the non-deployment of airbags on the Ford Focus on frontal impacts. I believe it is in the best interest of the public that this be investigated. The car has been towed to nichols Ford in fort worth, TX. I have also notified the consumer department of Ford motor company of the complaint.
2007 Ford Focus bought new July 2007 also bough full warrant and gap insurance in Feb 2008 driving 65 down the interstate the air bag deployed with now reason. 4 boys in the car. Ford said take it to your insurance company. They also would not look at the cd player one month before this so the insurance comp. Sent it to there repair shop they took extensive pictures to show no body damage or impact to cause this, they replaced the seat and the passenger side light would not go of so it indicated that there was a person in the seat so, the insurance company told Ford to fix it because the company fixing it had already changed all the sensors and the light would not go off. We had to pay 500. 00 deductible and the insurance paid 1658. 00 we do not know if our insurance will go up because Ford has not excepted responsibility yet and it has been 6 months and I have written to the federal trade comm. The news ect. . I do not want my child driving this car and I want my money back (plus some) and the computer reads a collision so we have lost alot of value I am just mad and I have heard alot of stories about Ford air bags and nothing is done I am only a speck to them they will probably drop the case and that will be that atleast nobody was killed yet maybe that is why they sell gap insurance. Thanks julie mohr.

Passenger side air bag alert comes on at irregular intervals and then goes off again. The dealer says they cannot find any problem and simply resets the codes, but that is not solving the problem. I have reported this problem at least five times, but the air bag alert is still coming on intermittently. If that alert is "on" and an accident occurs, who is responsible?.
Driving down dirt road ~45mph. Speed limit is 55mph. Said road has numerous potholes, none of large size that were observed to be catastrophic. Passenger seat airbag deployed with passenger in seat. Spoke with Ford complaint line, they deny this as a failure without investigating or inspecting, nor did they offer. Ford dealer who is repairing vehicle, was not able to provide me with the information of what set the airbag off as of yet (sensors?). Ford dealer claims pothole damage on vehicle.
The transmission on my 2005 Focus was difficult to shift into 1st gear. The dealership replaced it under warranty during 7 - 16 March 2007. While doing the work they nicked the brake line just enough to create a slow leak. The location of the leak was near the front left tire. After one day of driving, all the fluid leaked out and the brakes failed while my wife was driving it. The dealership arranged to pick up the Focus with a tow truck. They repaired the brakes (19-23 Mar). On 23 Mar, my wife picked up the Focus. Approximately 1/2 mile from the dealership, the driver's side airbag deployed while she was turning left. The force of the impact pushed her left arm down and to the right, pulling the steering wheel to the left, causing her to hit the curb. No other vehicle was nearby or involved. She was able to maneuver the Focus into the parking lot of a medical treatment facility, where she was treated for cervical injury. The dealership picked up the Focus with a tow truck. At the dealership they put the Focus up on a lift and I inspected the undercarriage along with the service manager and mechanic. The brake rotor was complete separated from the wheel and the lower control arm was bent at about a 20 degree angle from normal. The wheel was noticeably scratched and the tire was cut. The service manager suggested that my wife hit the curb causing the airbag to deploy. My wife is absolutely positive the airbag deployed causing her to hit the curb.
2007 Ford Focus driver side air bag deployed while I was drving in grocery store parking lot with seat belt on. No collision, no vechicle body damage, some damage to me. Insurance adjuster can find no reason for deployment, be careful. I had no even made my first car payment.

: the contact stated while traveling 55 mph over a slight rise in the road, the driver side curtain airbag deployed. There had been no prior accident. The vehicle was driven to the dealership, where it was determined the collision sensor had been activated.
Ford Focus has less than 7800 miles on it, and yesterday morning at 5:30 am while consumer's husband was driving to work on south bound on I-75 at 75 mph the driver's side air bag deployed for no apparent reason. Thankfully he was not injured however, since he was nearly the only vehicle on the road at the time this is cause for great concern. He immediately called pat milliken Ford where we leased the vehicle and they asked him to bring it in that evening for repair. This afternoon (1-25-06) we get a call from the service department that we need to file an insurance claim becuase there is a small dent under the vehicle which possibly hit the sensor and caused the airbag to deploy. They informed us that an adjuster would have to come out and look at it. This has to be a manufacturing defect. There is no way that if something hit the sensor under the car the side airbag should deploy. I have an 8-month old child who's car seat is located behind the drivers side, I can only thank god she was not in the vehicle at the time. While you prepare yourself for the bags to deploy when involved in an accident you never expect them to deploy while driving down a highway. I don't know where to begin filing a claim but I will start with you and will not end until I get some results. I never want to see this happen to anyone else. Thankfully there was no one else on the road at the time, my husband could have been seriously injured or worse, caused an accident himself when this incident occured. Pat milliken Ford told us that there have been at least 3 other Ford Focus's brought in for the same identical reason. Clearly there is something wrong that needs to be looked into for the safety of everyone who owns a Ford Focus.
My niece's 2002 Ford Focus passenger side airbag went off with no apparent cause. Ford says 'sensor' indicates an accident, but there was none, and charged $95 for this. Ford refuses to analyze this further, and remaining airbags no longer function. We believe that airbag sensors/systems are defective.
The contact stated the driver's side /curtain air bag deployed without warning. The vehicle was sitting still at the dealership. The dealer and manufacturer could not find the cause of the problem.

Slow speed accident. Accident resulted in no damage to vechicle hit and no damage to our vehicle. Passenger and driver side airbags deployed. Pasenger side air bag broke windshield and sent fragments of glass from the visor mirror throughout the car.

While my 2003 Ford Focus was being vacuum at the carwash, the side passenger airbag of my 2003 Ford Focus deployed. My car was parked and there was no impact. I had my car towed from the carwash to the dealership where I purchased my car. Their service department has not given me a solid reason as to why the airbag deployed. Their theories have ranged from damage to the undercarriage, the force of the vacuum at the carwash, to the possibility that I ran over a tire.
Driver side airbag deployed at low speed,2001 Ford Focus.
On December 20, 2004 I was driving home from work in my Ford Focus zts. The roads were very icy, and near my home, I slid on a patch of ice, went over a small bank, and hit 2 trees in someone's yard. While I was sliding I was headed to hit one tree head on, but I was able to steer away to where I hit both trees at exactly the same time, but only from the side. However, neither my front nor side air bags deployed. The impact of the crash was enough to total my car, even though I was only going 25 m. P. H. It was brand new, only 20,000 miles. My mechanic said that the air bags should definitely have deployed.
Traveling east-bound on I-10. Forced onto left shoulder by another vehicle. While attempting to move back onto the freeway was hit square on the drivers door by a pickup truck traveling in the same direction. Vehicle rolled 3-4 times before coming to stop. None of the front or side airbags deployed in the 2003 Ford Focus. The car only had 5000 miles on it.
Owner says that the side air bag deployed without incident. The owner took the vehicle to the dealer and they put it on the lift to see if there were any rocks or stones that may have activated the air bag sensor, but nothing was found. Provide further details. Consumer injured by airbag.
While driving 55 mph, the driver side air bag deployed unexpectedly. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Please provide further details.
