1 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. The contact stated that while driving on the highway, the vehicle emitted a loud noise. A local mechanic diagnosed that the vehicle would need a new transmission. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 106,000. The VIN was unavailable.

2 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

Driving at 65 mph and auto starts coasting. Engine will rev, transmission has dis-engaged and will not re-engage. This is apparently a very common failure with this model. Transmission is out, no warning or noise; just gone. So many reported transmission failures, one has to wonder why there has been no recalls issued.

3 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2011

First and foremost I am a mother of three and use my van daily taking my daughter to school. This is my second time having to report transmission failure the first being in June/2010 we was driving and without any warning the van's transmission went out we had it fixed in July 19 2010. Then again 2/26/2011 I was driving about thirty miles from my home to visit my brother in the hospital I had got word he was not doing well from surgery and I did not make it I heard a noise and felt a surge so I pulled off into a parking lot and called my father that was at the hospital to come and pick my daughter and me up. He checked everything under the hood and did not see a problem. My husband showed up a few hours later in which he heard a noise in the transmisson when he went to put in gear it started rolling there was nothing it had done went out. So we called the wrecker man to come get it we had done spent $45. 00,$50. 00 and now this cost $90. 00 on tow bills. I will not know until later this week what went out. I got on the internet last night and day after day someone is reporting this same problem here we are. In less than a year ours has went out twiced what will it take before Ford does something to fix this losing a family member or a whole family. We still owe on our van and with the economy was hoping to pay it off and enjoy life without payments for a while but who knows. I do not feel safe even getting in this vehicle I just feel it will take a death before Ford wises up and does something this is so sad I reported my problem in June of last year hoping to get something done and now here we are again 8 months later with reports coming in everyday and nothing is being done. I am contacting other media to try and get word of this unlike Toyota trying to say this or that there is too much information about these Ford Freestar transmissions reports page after page when you put 2005 Ford Freestar in the search. So why hasn't something been done before it is too late!.

4 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

I have a 2005 Ford Freestar. We bought it in 2008 and enjoyed driving it all over texas but the rear brakes have always has made a moaning sound no matter what is replaced and the front brakes rattle. Dec 2010 replaced the water pump, alternator, ilder pulley and belt tensioner before I found the solution on youtube that it was the camshaft sychronizer that was making a shrieking noise. Then without warning three weeks later the transmission complelety failed at a traffic signal 83230 miles, left my wife standed in rush hour traffic luckily it wasnt at night or my kids in the van. No cause could be determined by mechanic other than tranny pan was full of metal and had to be completely rebuilt for $2000. I have owned an f150, aerostar, and explorer all went over 180,000 miles and still working when I sold them. The Freestar has been a let down. Next minivan will be Nissan or Toyota. Hopefully Ford will recall the tranny on these van since most of the comments I have read experince tranny failure around 80k miles hopefully no one get hurt because of it.

5 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

In December 2010 I was at a stop light, when I went to accelerate the car wouldn't move. Had it towed to a transmission shop and they rebuilt it. It has gone back 3 times due to continuing of problem and the check engine light keeps coming on after they turn it off. Since last visit, now the air bag light is on, check engine light is on and the horn no longer works when pushed but it ocationally has gone off for no reason. Still have problems accelerating, is sluggish, and makes a horrible noise. It needs to be smogged but will not pass due to these issues.

6 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2010

Wife was driving the 2005 Ford Freestar van and came up to a stop light. The light turns green so she stepped on the gas and the van moved forward a few feet and then nothing. Thankfully she was able to coast to the side of the road, where she put it in park and back into drive and the van would not move. The van made no noise to indicate anything was wrong with the transmission.

7 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2010

My 2005 Ford Freestar lost power to the wheels without warning. The transmission failed while driving with my 3 children in the car. The vehicle only has 85,000 miles on it. There were no noises, lights, or other indication of a problem prior to failure.

8 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2010

2005 Ford Freestar completely lost power to the drivetrain while traveling in a 45 mph zone. There was no warning light or strange noises coming from the vehicle prior to the failure. My wife was lucky to have gotten the vehicle out of traffic before she was rear-ended which would have obviously caused serious injury. The vehicle has only 62,000 miles on it and the vehicle has been meticulously maintained, including a transmission flush at 42,000 miles. Ford dealership diagnosed problem and determined that transmission needed to be replaced. There numerous complaints of transmission failure with this make/model with other Ford owners.

9 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

On the evening of October 15, I was on my way to meet with several of my children's teachers for parent/teacher conference night. I had just left home and made it a few blocks when I heard this loud grinding type noise. At that moment, I was at a stop sign getting ready to make a right turn. This was unusual considering I had been driving my van all day. I hadn't heard any noises prior to that. I put my vehicle in park and I heard some more grinding type noises. Every time I changed gears, I would hear grinding. I put my van back in drive and tried to accelerate but my van would not move. I put it in reverse in an attempt to drive it backwards to get it to the curb and it would not move in reverse. I put my van in park and took my foot off the brake and my van started to roll backwards. I had to quickly reach for the emergency brake to keep it from moving. My van was on a slight hill and with the help of my uncle and husband, we were able to coast it home. When we finally made it to our driveway, it still rolled backward on a flat surface. About 2 months I took my van to a coleman taylor transmission auto repair shop for a diagnostic and they told me that my transmission was fine.
