After idling for awhile in the heat the vehicle lunged forward while my foot was on the brake. The vehicle is a 2006 Ford Freestyle and if you go to the website myfordfreestyle. Com you will find 8 pages of throttle body complaints. I took my vehicle into the dealer approx 4 months ago complaining of transmission issues and was told that the trans. Was fine, never did they suggest or check the throttle body. I was in a parking garage on the down exit ramp and could have lunged forward into the car in front of me. This is a serious safety issue that is an obvious problem with the Freestyle. My close friend also has a 2007 Freestyle and is having the same problem.

43 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

In July 2010 our 2006 Ford Freestyle started lurching and the wrench light came on indicating a major issue. Dealer advised us to pull over and call a wrecker to tow vehicle. After turning vehicle off and then back on, wrench light did not come back on, so we drove additional 5 miles to home, then to dealer 20 miles next day. Mileage on vehicle 81,000. We were told there was a problem with transmission and that the cost of repair was $600 to $800. Dealer indicated a problem in getting part as there had been a problem with this for some time on the Freestyle. I did not keep old part, but later looked up "Ford Freestyle complaints" and noted there are a number of individuals having same problem, some occurring in dangerous situations. Additionally we have found two local Freestyle owners who have had same issue and same repair done. We put about 30,000 miles a year on our vehicles and keep them for 3 to 4 years. I have never had a transmission problem in this mileage range with any previous vehicle, and feel it should be considered a dangerous issue and placed on recall list.

44 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

2006 Ford Freestyle. The car accelerates on its own, requiring me to use the brake hard. Also, when the car starts to back up or in slow forward speeds (such as parking) , the engine shuts off on its own. Ford has identified it as a throttle body problem. The part is on national backorder with no estimation of when my car can be repaired. I have looked into this and a lot of people are having similar issues. Please force Ford to make this part and issue a recall.

49 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

My 2006 Ford Freestyle lunges/surges when going from park to drive or park to reverse. Vehicle has been doing this for at least 1 year . It is very scarey and unsafe for my teenage driver who is just learning to drive. I have also replaced the brakes pads and rotors twice already. The brakes wear out very quickly around 15,000 miles. Last I replaced the transmission at 100,000. I bought a used 2007 transmission to save some money. Now I am being told that my transmission is bad again. It is once again slipping and I have only driven 15,000 since the transmission was replaced with one od only 56,000 miles.

50 Automatic Transmission problem

Transmission shut down as I was driving along highway.

51 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

I drive a 2006 Ford Freestyle and has been in the shop for 38 days not. Their has been many complaints on this car due to the fact it is stalling in mid drive. I almost got rear ended. I was very scared for me and more so my children. It has also jerked forward, and when put in reverse it jerks to way you could lose control of the car.

52 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

I was driving on the pennsylvania tpke and suddenly lost speed. Went from 70mph to 35mph. My wife and I nearly hit the windshield. The wrench light came on. Stopped on the side immediately and turned off the engine. When I started it again, wrench light was gone and the car drove fine. Took it to Ford dealer who first could not replicate the problem. Every now and then I would have the same problem occur, but after taking it to the dealer, they could not replicate the problem and could not find it on the computer. One day that happened, I drove for a good 20 min at 30mph to get to the dealer with the wrench light on so they can diagnose it and not make me look like I am crazy. They finally got the code and said I need a new transmission that costs $6,000. Wrench light came on for a while after that whenever I accelerated a little, and I would loose power again. Now whenever I start the car, the wrench light is on and it is difficult and almost impossible to accelerate. I have to drive it for about 10 minutes with the light on before I turn off the engine so I can have it go away when I start the car again. The situation is getting worse, and Ford dealer person I spoke to says they know of the problem. I have read so many complaints online about the exact same issue. I was told to file a complaint and you might help with a recall for this problem.

53 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2009

We have a 2006 for Freestyle. After completing a turn, the car made a loud pitched squeal, and all gears were lost. Ford has advised that the cvt (transmission), has failed. We kept the car maintained, and had no warning other than a light which came on at the time of failure. We had three children in the car at the time, and were lucky we were on a side road. Ford also acknowledged they have seen this happen on other Freestyles. Dealer said they know about the issue, but no recall. Cost to repair is close to $6,000.

54 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2008

I own a 2006 Ford Freestyle and I have had many problems with it. The most prevalent and frustrating issues are ones I've seen many complaints about. . . The car lunging forward or backward (happens more when a/c has been on), high rpms with pedal to floor and the car going nowhere (wrench light comes on). The first time the rpm issue happened I was on my way up to lancaster, CA driving up a very steep hill. I had my 2 year old son with me and the car would barely go. I was able to put on my hazards and get off the freeway and made it to a park-and-ride. After I shut the car off for awhile and started it again it was fine. This has happened quite a few times since then; the most recent was last month (July 2011). Also, mostly when getting on the freeway and having to accelerate into traffic, the car will rev at a very high rpm and not go down unless I pull over/get off freeway and try the acceleration a little slower. If the rpms stay high it sometimes causes the wrench light to come on and problem with the pedal to the floor and car going nowhere comes into play. I have not been able to have any work done on the car to try to aleve the problems due to financial issues. I know that a lot of other people have had these same problems and I just hope that something can be done before someone seriously gets hurt.

55 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2008

The car accelerates without aby prompting or warning. There are different scenarios this is happening in. One situation that has happened numerous times is sitting in a line such as a drive thru and idling with my foot on the brake and the car lurches forward. Another scenario is putting the car in reverse and the car lurches backwards. Sitting at a red light ot stop sign behinf the line of a crosswalk and the car has lurched forward with foot on brake and narrowly missed a pedestrian. I tend to put it in park when at a light or in a drive thru. I have reported it to Ford and they discredited my claim saying it was an issue I needed to repair and did not constitute a recall. How when thousands of others have made complaints on this same issue since the purchase of their cars. This is not a system that wore out. It never worked properly in the first place. Maybe the issue is it is a cost repair in the thousands.

56 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2008

The contact own a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph and stopped at a traffic stop. The contact attempted to accelerate from the stop bu the vehicle would not respond. The engine was turned off and restarted as the vehicle resumed normally. The dealer replaced the transmission with a rebuilt transmission yet the failure recurred within 1,000 miles and the vehicle was repaired a second time. Most recently, the contact stated that while applying the brakes, the vehicle lunged forward abnormally.
