36 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

2005 Ford Freestyle has a constant scraping sound from the transmission when I am driving it. We paid $ 200. 00 for Ford mechanic to change out the transmission fluid with new fluid kit & he did find metal & brass shavings from tranny in oil pan. Mechanic says the transmission needs to be replaced with new one but I can't afford to pay $4,000. 00 it will take to do it. I found out the cvt transmissions all sooner or later ,but mostly sooner ; fail because they are notorious for it . Bad design for that transmission & they still robbing the owners of these vehicles as I speak ! man up & pay for your mistakes like those in society must when they have robbed others and got caught. I'd like to know why it's let go thus far & who then is accountable ??.

40 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/15/2017

When pulling out of parking lot onto highway, lost all acceleration and check engine and check transmission lights came on, was lucky the vehicles behind me were paying attention and I was able to coast to side of road. Turned car off and restarted, when shifting into gear there was a loud clunk in d and r, with still no response from the throttle. After having to have vehicle towed home so my family and I were off of the busy highway, I tried to disconnect the battery to try and reset the system, still no luck. We just had the throttle body replaced last year at a cost of 700. 00, similar to same issues with throttle but nothing with transmission at that time. After reading through multiple reviews there are numerous complaints of this cvt transmission and there was also a recall on the throttle body needing to be cleaned. What is the problem of why a recall has not been issued, these vehicles are not only family vehicles but death traps! something needs to be done before some family gets killed from a faulty mistake that Ford CO. Is well aware of!.

The vehicle was taken to the local hertrich Ford-Lincoln dealer of milford located on 1427 bay rd, milford, DE, 19963 where it was diagnosed that multiple error codes internally with the transmission, and that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would record the failure, however there was no recall for the failure but were aware of the high volume of complaints. The failure mileage was approximately 98,897.

42 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/27/2017

On may 27th, 2017, we were traveling at 50-55 mph with cruise control engaged on the highway when our Ford Freestyle began lurching badly and the rpm began surging. In a a few minutes the wrench light came on along with the engine light, battery light, abs light and airbag light. Our speedometer began flipping back and forth uncontrollably. At that point the vehicle would not exceed 25-30 mph even at full speed. We could have been rear-ended! we immediately pulled off at a gas station to check the oil levels and check to see what was wrong. We started the vehicle back and returned home cautiously. We took the vehicle to the nearest lube place and got the oil changed. We returned home and researched about the issue. My husband (who is very mechanically inclined) decided to follow a mechanic's advice and cleaned the throttle body thoroughly with seafoam and a toothbrush. It was filthy and had lots of deposits built up on it. He unplugged the battery to reset everything and reinstalled the throttle body. It proved ineffective so we purchased a new throttle body for $320 from advanced auto parts. He installed it today and the problem has not been solved. We are at a loss and are not sure what to do. This issue should have been recalled. I am a mother of 3 and am currently pregnant with my fourth child and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle!.

43 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

While driving the wrench light will randomly come on and the rpms go crazy and the car struggles to shift gears. After restarting the car, it will drive fine for a while - sometimes weeks - before it happens again. After it happens a few times, the engine light will turn on but will go back off after driving a little or restarting it a few times. Now, a few days ago it started jumping and struggling to move from a complete stop, no wrench light this time. Turning the car off & letting it sit for a couple minutes helped & I got to work. Then on my way home, I made it 5 of the 7 miles before it started acting up again. This time sluggish acceleration from a complete stop. After sitting for a couple days, the car drove smoothly for 3 miles, stopped at a light and car jerked again then limped forward. Pulled over & restarted the car and it drove smoothly for a little then very sluggish acceleration again. Once it got moving, it was good, until the next complete stop. I managed to get a block from home and park the car and I'm waiting to take it to the repair shop 2 blocks away. Hopefully after letting the car sit for a day it will make it there with no problem. . .

Recently purchased my car through an independent dealer. Started to accelerate when in park or when reversing. Battery light comes on and goes off randomly. If I cut it off and turn it on it goes away. Car jumps (accelerates) during driving. It does it all the time no matter where I am driving. Run system diagnostic on steering wheel and everything comes back okay. Purchased car for a family car and upset that this is a persistent problem with this model.

55 Power Train problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/29/2016

While driving, vehicle goes into limp mode without warning. Happens in both city and highway driving. Wrench indicator and check engine indicators light on dash. Vehicle slows and can barely accelerate causing near-accident. Resetting code p0701 allows normal operation till cycle repeats in short and random time of driving. Engine shut down/restart clears wrench light till cycle repeats. Took car to 2 Ford dealers and independent transmission specialist. All advised that the cvt transmission cannot be rebuilt or repaired and that replacement transmissions are generally not available. All advised not repairing the car because even if a new transmission were available, cost is $4500-$5500 for the unit plus over $1000 labor to remove/replace transmission. Research shows this is a common complaint about this car and it's similar models (Ford 500) of all years (2005-2007).

56 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/15/2016

From the 1st day I leased the vehicle from progressive auto, I could hear it raving high, steering wheel really heavy, brakes seemed strange and heavy to move. But the sales man kept telling and showing me a report that the vehicle is fine, and kept saying, its the type of engine in the vehicle (cvt) that's why it all seems strange. I kept going back to them advising them that I know something is wrong, but they kept saying they cannot find anything wrong. Finally I took it to a Ford dealership, and they advised me it was a transmission, brakes and suspension problem. And this was not even 2 months down the road. I was very upset and wanted to return the vehicle. So they decided to claim to fix the transmission by installing a used one. I had to get the other things fixed myself. Not even a year and some later, I have to replace the transmission again. Before the transmission completely died, as I was driving it started to stall to a point I almost got into a car accident with kids in the back, as the car kept jerking and I didn't know what was happening. This was the worst vehicle I have ever purchased in my life time. And the best part, is one one wants to take ownership of the problem with the vehicle that seems to be very very common. I wish the problems were easily diagnosed when first happening, and it would have saved me alot of headaches. I am usually a import vehicle individual, but I choose Ford as I heard great things about them. But now I will never buy a Ford again as it has been the worst experience I have had. I need over $3000 to fix the transmission and the vehicle is not even worth that much!.

57 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

When driving down a 4 lane high way the car lost gas pedal check transmission light came on. This could have been fatal. With other vehicle speeds up to 65 mph behind my car. . . Have had several garages look at it and still cant figure out the problem. Now a tow bill labor and other compounding exspences.

58 Power Train problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 04/10/2016

I had bought a used Ford Freestyle 2007 for a little over $6,000. 00 with 102,000 miles on it and after almost exactly a year later, I was going to take off from a stop sign near my house and without even reaching 30 miles per hour the SUV made a loud winding sound and the cvt transmission completely shut down without any warning and the transmission icon on the dash popped on. I tried to roll to the side of the road but ended up stuck in the middle. I tried shutting down the whole car and turning it back on with no luck. Luckily family lived near by and they helped me by pulling it with a rope home. We had it checked out and the transmission is bad now to get it fixed would cost $5,000+ pretty much totaling the SUV unfortunately we have no insurance and we are left with a $6,000. 00 lemon in our driveway thanks Ford. When looking up to see if other people had the problem we did we were shocked that the 2005-2007 Ford Freestyles have thousands of complaints for the same thing and no recall what is going on they should either recall the cvt transmission or take the SUV off the market. Family's with more than three kids are going to be in the market for those cars and to completely shut down without warning is very dangerous. Luckily I was near home in the summer months but what are they waiting for. What if it was the dead of winter I was on the freeway and had all my children with and it was bad traffic everyone in the car would most likely die. Please get the recall for this worthless cvt transmission.

61 Power Train problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 03/14/2016

My vehicle enters engine failsafe mode in the middle of driving, experiences idle issues and the throttle body is responsible.
