36 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/17/2012

My car makes a funny high pitched noise while driving. Also in park to drive, it will lunge forward. I was told that it is a intake bearing that has come loose in my transmission. The noise gets louder as you continue to accelerate. It will only make the noise when it is in motion. I bought this vehicle used in 2010 with around 58,000 miles.

39 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 02/03/2012

I brought my car to the dealership today it was making a very loud transmission noise. I received a call at 4pm from the Ford dealership stating that the transmission was bad. When I received this information I researched the problem only to find thousands of complaints on cvt transmissions from for. They have refused to correct this problem under recall which I find to be terrible. When they are in financial deficet they get bailed out by our government but when they have faulty equiptment they turn their head. I am disgusted with the way they have delt with this problem. Who can afford to buy a new transmission for a vehicle every 60000 miles!! I guess we can let the american consumer take the hit that works for aliving and pays taxes so that they can get bailed out of trouble when they have problems!!.

40 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

I bought my 2007 Ford Freestyle awd in June 2011 with approximately 72,000 miles on it. It started having a whining noise - almost like a pump - after the 75000 mile mark passed. I was not able to purchase an extended warranty because they are not available to purchase after 75k miles. I addressed the noise complaint with a mechanic and after replacing the power steering pump, the noise did not subside. A couple of months later, the traction control light would come on intermittently for no reason; but then go off once the car was restarted. The noise increased slightly, and 2 days after the increase in noise, the transmission failed suddenly. I was driving at approximately 45 miles per hour on the road, and the wrench light and traction control lights both went on and the rpm's went through the roof while acceleration slowed. I was able to get to the side of the road because I had enough speed going from seconds before the transmission failed. No other gears worked. After the vehicle was towed to the garage, I was told the transmission was completely wrecked; and this problem is one that the transmission technician has seen often from Ford Freestyle's. I contacted Ford customer relations and they told me that there was no assistance that they could offer me. Online automotive forums are packed with complaints from customers who had similar experiences to mine - transmissions failing long before they should; and often in a timeframe when no extended warranty is available. Now, I cannot replace the transmission with a used one because it is likely it will fail again; and my only logical purchase is to get a Ford remanufactured one for $4000+ because it is the only one with a 3 year warranty. Losing a transmission is dangerous - had I been going uphill slowly; been driving in bad weather; or in any other likely situation, it could have been much worse.

41 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

The transmission has started to make a very ugly noise when on park. The SUV lunges and the rpm needle goes out of control sometimes. I've read online of other Ford Freestyles having the same problems and I've also heard that these problems have cause some accidents. Please do something to fix this problem. We do don't have the money to have these problems fixed and we need the transportation. Thanks.

42 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While parked, the contact heard a knocking noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic where the mechanic advised that the transmission would have to be inspected and possibly replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

43 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/28/2011

Last year my car just stopped running, we thought it was the alternator so we put a new one in. That worked for a little while, but the humming noise returned and has gotten louder. Upon further investigation into the car it is in the transmission part. It is quiet as long as it is not going down the road. As soon as you get any speed it whines terrible. It is so loud you can hear it over large equipment running. This is the second vehicle I have purchased from Ford with the same failure. It needs to be recalled like the other transmissions.

44 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/25/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when she heard a humming noise. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostics, where the technicians stated that the input shaft bearing failed and the transmission would need to be overhauled. 46 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/07/2011

I pulled into my garage, placed the car in park, turned it off, returned in 30 minutes, started right up, placed transmission in reverse, heard and felt a large bang, whining noise from engine, wrench light came on, that was the last time I drove it. I had it towed to a shop, replaced the computer, recoded, reflashed, nothing worked. I was told it needs a new transmission. New transmission estimate is $7000. 00. . . Ford should be held accountable for a flawed design. . . I was fortunate in that my transmission failed in my garage, others were not so lucky. Please dont wait until someone's family is killed before you force a much needed recall on some seriously bad research and development.

47 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 03/22/2011

Our 2007 Ford Freestyle (70124) began making a noise in park and neutral. Took it to dealership and was told the cvt transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $4384 with labor and flush $5618. 87 to repair. After reading other accounts here I also recognize the lurching forward. Tried to trade vehicle but cost of repair takes away trade in value. We will wait for a push pull and drag sale and try to get at least enough for it to get another vehicle. Was told that the new replacement transmission carries a 100,000 mile warranty. Why did the current transmission have only 60,000 mile warranty. We were told Ford is the only place to get the new transmission. Win win situation for Ford at customer expense. One solution for Ford to consider if they cannot do a recall is to refinance vehicles for transmission repair at cost. They should not just abandon their customers.

48 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 02/03/2011

I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle and I am having problems with the cvt transmission makeing a tapping noise. I took the car to the dealer and was told the inside of the transmission was falling apart and it would cost me 5800 dollars to have itr repaired has there been any other problems like this or any recalls for the Ford cvt transmission help I have been having problem with the car lunching forward and stalling out and the wrench and check engine light would come on and when I took it to the dealer they said that they could not find a problem or any fault codes this has been going on since I have owned the car.

49 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 01/28/2011

Noise coming from engine. Took it to dealer found that the transmission is bad, do to a bent shaft.

50 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle exhibited an abnormally loud noise. She noticed that there was a hole in the transmission and that the transmission gears were on the ground. The dealer offered the contact no assistance. The manufacturer advised the contact that because her vehicle was no longer under warranty, they would not be able to provide any additional assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileage was 90,000.

51 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 11/25/2010

2007 Ford Freestyle has noise coming from underneath near the front. It is out of warranty with 120,000 miles. Brought it in to mechanic thinking it was a wheel bearing or something similar. According to four separate repair shops it is the transmission. Lowest cost to fix, that I could find, is 4300 dollars, which is more than half of what I still owe on it. For something to cost that much to repair is a shame. I can understand car parts failing, even transmissions, but not for that much. I had a transmission fail in another Ford, a couple months before this one, and it was 2000 dollars to fix. Expensive, yes, but not over 4000 freakin dollars. I could have the entire engine replaced on this 2007 Freestyle for cheaper than the transmission. Ford could at least offer some kind of break on these transmissions if not a recall. I am aware of a lot of people having transmission problems with these Freestyles. If something doesn't happen for these soon, I will not be sad to never buy a Ford again.

52 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

I had a persistent problem with my 2006 Ford Freestyle. Car would launch with foot on brake. Brought to dealer several times. Now at 65k miles, the transmission has a noise (in park and neutral). The transmission shop has quoted $5200 for a new transmission. It does not seem right that a car could not easily reach 100k these days. I am an aerospace engineer and would be embarrassed if my product failed as often as I have read about this car.

53 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

When driving, my car loses power. Sometimes when moving slowly, I engage the gas pedal and lose power. Sometimes when I engage the gas to move from a stopped position, my car will start to go and then lose power. The car does not shut off, it just won't move, and then suddenly does. The dealer replaced the throttle body, but this is still happening. They said unless they can get the problem to happen when they are driving it, there is nothing they can do to help further. This is very scary and I'm sure it's a matter of time before there is an accident. When I put my car in reverse, sometimes it revs up before actually moving. I have had many problems with this vehicle, starting in the 20,000 miles. Bad window motor, bad brakes, intermittent dash board clearance, air conditioning mechanism leaking into car. The dealer did replace the window motor, brakes and air conditioning problem, but had no explanation on the dash lights resetting. My paint is bubbling up on the hood of my car. Ford offered to fix this for $850. The bubbling started at 39,000 miles. I did not pay them to fix this, as I feel Ford should be responsible for this. When Ford had my car last, they replaced a sway bar and did not tighten the nut, I then had the abs light come on and they replaced the wheel speed sensor and tightened the nut. My car clunked so bad, I fear that this caused additional suspension problems. I've always had noise in the front end, especially on a tight turn. The greased the front end, but that does not fix the problem. Today, my car only has 45,000 miles on it, but unfortunately, my warranty is up and I know that one day when I put my foot on the gas pedal, it's not going to move. I was told by a Ford service rep. That the cvt transmission cannot be replaced, so when it does fail, I'm out of luck, there is no repair for this. Recall please.

54 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

Cvt transmission on 2007 Ford Freestyle was making a noise in park and reverse, dealer said transmission needed a part that was on national back order but was safe to drive. A few days later, we experienced a more severe transmission issue with the car surging forward when reverse or drive is engaged. In addition, the car is unable to accelerate over 30 mph and once foot is off the accelerator, the car quickly loses speed. This will be the third problem I have experienced with the cvt transmission and the car has less than 45,000 miles. Current status: part continues to be on back order and dealer customer service has been terrible in terms of providing loaner car and status updates etc. . .

55 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

I bought my 2005 Ford Freestyle in June 2010, very nice car. A few week into driving I heard a very strange noise so I took it back to the dealship to check, the told me the noise is normal it is comming from the transmission and that sound goes with that type of tranny(cvt). August of 2010 dtiving on i95 got a popping sound and car stop,I tow it back to dealship and thetransmission went, the put a new tranny in it was covered by my warranity, January 2012 got the same sound again and I was told that the tranny is not good,so I need a new one again it is covered. So u see Ford is not taking responabitly for there mistake, please help all of us that have 2005 Ford Freestyle problems.

56 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

The car had been making a low groaning noise for a few months and the mechanics were unable to detect any issues. My wife was driving on the highway at approximately 55mph when a loud blast came from the underside of the car. The transmission literally exploded and blew a hole in the housing and sent metal everywhere. There was an obvious sudden loss of power and the brakes were compromised because the metal had severed the brake line as well. The car was safely brought to a stop and then towed to a mechanic where it ended up having a transmission replacement for nearly $4,000. We had been having intermittent issues with sudden engine surges dating back to well before the transmission incident and continuing even to this day. It was not until finding recent information that I related these two incidents to each other. This last spring we also had the engine mounts replaced as well. I recall seeing that listed in several reports as well.

57 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/25/2010

Loud noises coming from car, engine, transmission days prior to driving to work. Driving to work car turns off and comes to stop in the middle of busy intersection. Can start car but can't move it. Car does not move forward or backward. Having car looked at by dealer. Reading message boards and finding out that there are many, no wait lots of other people experiencing the same thing. People being told to replace transmissions only to have them repeatedly break multiple times. Make: Ford model: Freestyle transmission: cvt.

58 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 04/28/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that when having the brakes applied, the vehicle would lunge forward and the engine rpm's would increase drastically. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised him that the fuel injection system had failed. In addition, the contact would hear a loud noise from the vehicle when driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that he needed a new transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was approximately 74,000. The VIN was unavailable.

59 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

The day I bought me car there was problems. The front passanger side was soak with water ands the dealerships response was to use the heating system to dry it. The car had a high pitch noise and the gears seemed to be tight. If my foot was not on the brake even on an up hill climb the car would roll forward. When I excelerate it reves very high and did not drop much and when you take your foot off the gas it plummets. At about odometer 129689 my car started to sound like a mack truck and it increase it noise level. I was told I need to replace the transmission and it is a special transmission. . . One of a kind so a used one will run about 2500, a brand new one from Ford will cost around $5k and that does not include labor. Also to rebuild the one you have will cost you because they have to buy another use transmission from another Freestyle and then combine the 2. My odometer is at 136701 today my car is still running somewhat but any day it will explode and die. Trust me Ford is well aware of the problem(s) and will not recall the part(s) unless someone gets hurt or is killed. I will never buy another Ford! they have lost me as a supporter! they only make junk cars or lemons. I wish I realized at the time of purchase that it was a lemon and transmission was already bad. The Ford dealership knew and sold it to me with a smile. I had them fix one thing and they said they will fix that part and there was nothing else? why would they sell a damage car? if you have a Freestyle get rid of it if you can!!!! Ford does not take pride in their workmanship nor stand behind their product.

60 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. While traveling at a speed of 70mph the contact noticed that her vehicle suddenly made an unknown noise and had begun to coast in neutral, causing the contact to pull to the side of the road. The contact shut off the vehicle. And after restarting the vehicle she noticed that the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was towed to her residence. The contact called the dealership and was informed over the phone that the cvt in the transmission may have caused the failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or serviced at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were 63000.

61 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 10/13/2009

I bought my 2005 Ford Freestyle brand new and my cvt transmission went out when my car had only about 70,000 miles on it and I also had my throttle body replaced as well. I was driving on the free way when without any warning my car just died out causing me to panic and almost getting into a car accident. Luckily that didn't happen. I brought it to the dealership 3 times and they couldn't find the problem causing me to not feel very secure about the car I bought. Finally they found the problem and fixed it by putting on a new throttle body and a new transmission. Now my car has 130,000 miles and it is starting to surge and make a helicopter type noise, and I took it to a mechanic and he says its my throttle body and my transmission again. The shop wants to charge me six thousand dollars to fix which I cant afford and I am gonna have to try to trade it in but dealerships don't want to give me anything for it because of its bad history of such a pricey repair. Thanks.

62 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/10/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the transmission failed. The vehicle hesitated, surged, and emitted a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an inspection and they stated that the automatic transmission assembly needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that the vehicle was already repaired under warranty once. The contact would have to pay to have it repaired a second time. The failure mileage was 19,000.

63 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

Cvt transmission in 2006 Ford Freestyle failed. Cost to repair estimated by Ford dealer 3000. 00. Ford canada and wells Ford of stirling ontario refused any responsibility. Vehicle is now 4 thousand kms over warranty however whining noise in vehicle was reported to the dealer when warranty was still effect.

64 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 11/14/2008

Transmission failure at 27k miles. I was driving at 40 mph. I accelerated slightly to maintain my speed up a slight grade. I heard a clunk from the transmission area under the dash and then the car lost all acceleration. I had enough speed to coast to a church parking lot where I parked. The engine was idling normally, but the engine would not rev higher when I stepped on the accelerator. The check engine light and check transmission indicator were displayed. I turned the engine off and then restarted it. It idled normally but I still couldn't rev the engine in park or neutral. The car would not move in drive or reverse. The check engine light and check transmission indicator were still displayed. I had the car towed to the Ford dealership where I purchased it. The dealership replaced the transmission, clutch, and axle at a cost of $5885. The car is over 3 years old and out of warranty so I was liable for this cost. Neither Ford nor the dealer would assume any liability for this defective transmission. Twice I complained to the dealer, while the car was under warranty, that the car was making a whining sound as I accelerated and the noise grew louder as the speed increased. He couldn't hear anything, either time. I have the work orders to prove it. I assumed it was probably road noise due to tire wear. The whining sound has disappeared since the new transmission was installed.

65 Transmission Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 03/25/2008

1. I noticed that there was a knocking noise of sorts coming from my vehicle when I would put it in drive. At first, it would only do it in drive. Now, it makes the noise in park and in every gear except reverse. It is extremely loud. 2. After taking the vehicle to three different places, it has been determined that the input shaft and bearing needs to be replaced in my transmission. Per the Ford dealership, this will run roughly around $2,200. 00! 3. I am currently waiting to get an appointment to get my car repaired. Have called 2 separate Ford dealerships and one of them told us to call back in a week when his transmission guy would be in, the other told us to call back when they open today.

66 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 04/20/2007

I bought my 2006 Ford Freestyle with 23,000 miles within 4 months I started experiencing a whining noise. The noise started getting louder and louder, I then started to feel the car wanting to accelerate while my foot was on the brake, this happened about 5 times. The car would stall and the wrench light would come on. I would turn it off and let it cool a little and it would start right up again. The problems continued especially in the heat. I live in miami florida and it was just about everyday that this would happen. Then finally it happened, the car just died on me. I want to point out that I took the car to the dealer with 30,000 and they told me there was nothing they could do because no lights came on. I let them service the car and they told me everything was ok. The dealer told me I needed a new transmission. I could not believe it, he also told me the throttle body went and intake manifold had went as well. I asked if there was anything Ford could do they said I would have to call. Ford was the worst at customer service that I ever experienced. They said no to everything because I was out of warranty. After spending almost $6,000 the dealer told me that Ford was now giving 100,000 mile warranty for remanufactured transmissions. To this day, I have replaced brakes, rotors, another throttle body, front engine mount and the car is now experiencing a whining noise again. I still have 15,000 warranty left on last tranny I put in. I'm thinking they may have to put a new tranny in again. Ford knew about this recall and how dangerous it was and never asked for a voluntary recall, I am also very disappointed with the NHTSA. There have been thousand of complaints and they also did nothing about.

67 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 09/03/2006

I have two big problems with my Ford, first I've had it for a year and a half and replaced the front and rear brakes four times. The rotors were supposed to have been replaced before I got the SUV. For over a year I haven't had no help by Ford, during the same time I've had a loud knocking noise from either the engine or transmission, they wouldn't even look at that problem. For being a 2006 there is so many things wrong with it and spend double in gas I'm very unsatisfied with my Freestyle.
