general problems of the 2010 Ford Fusion - part 1

The throttle body failed. It is not available for inspection because it was replaced. While driving on a high-speed road, the engine felt like it shuddered, and the car lost engine power and would no longer accelerate. At the same time, the light shaped like a wrench came on. Our safety was therefore put at risk because we could now barely accelerate, and could easily have been rear-ended. The problem was confirmed and repaired by an independent service center. After doing the repair, the service center informed us that there was a Ford customer satisfaction service bulletin (13no3) for this problem. We called Ford about this bulletin and were told that the bulletin was limited to ten years or 150,000 miles, whichever came first. Even though our car is over ten years old, it only has 87,000 miles on it.

Cylinder two the brass fitting came out of the transmission, no power when trying to accelerate, for whatever reason the front driver wheel rubs and messes up the tires, the pcm will throw a wrench symbol from time to time.

Driving on the highway in the fast lane, vehicle suddenly lost all power. A message on the car said “ pull over safely “. No prior warning of anything wrong with the vehicle. I managed to Dodge traffic with my hazard lights on and came to a stop on the side of the highway. I inspected the car with no signs of anything wrong. I shut down the car and restarted. Everything came back on and was drivable. This caused me to look online, only to discover that other people are having the same problem as I have described. Total loss of power. This is a very dangerous situation to be in, not able to keep moving on a very busy highway.

My vehicle will no longer operate in electric mode. This is a major safety concern since there is no assist from the high-voltage battery powered electric drive motor. Upon accelerating from a dead stop, there is a significant lag before the ice kicks in and provides enough power to move the vehicle.

The contact had another certified mechanic repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact linked the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The contact was then referred to NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered and hesitated to respond while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the valve cover gasket was fractured and had caused oil to leak onto the spark plugs. The mechanic diagnosed that the valve cover gasket and spark plugs needed to be replaced. Additionally, the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the brakes, the calipers, and the tie rod needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.

Abs module. Potential safety risk. Huge lawsuit waiting to happen.

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid that has approximately 90k miles. The car started randomly shutting off while driving. No combustion engine, no electric motor propelling the car. Suddenly shutting off while driving is incredibly unsafe. I took it to a Ford dealer and after much communication with Ford hq, it was determined that the transmission control module was bad. This component is buried inside the hybrid cvt transmission, and as such cannot be repaired. The entire transmission needs to be replaced. After contacting about 10 large transmission shops in the region I found out that none of them can do the work. Ford has made the unit so that the information in the unit can only be copied and written with Ford software. It is impossible for a repair shop to install a used unit. The only way to repair the car is with a new transmission from Ford that I was quoted $14,000 for. This is a scam against the consumer. A decent running car is reduced to scrap value over a single component that only the dealer can repair at an exorbitant price. This is inherently unsafe and a total consumer scam.

My vehicle is having trouble at first start after refueling the vehicle and I made a research and found that there is a recall for some same model of my vehicle that there is a problem with the purge valve. The recall number is 15s34. My vehicle is having the same trouble as mentioned in the recall but my vehicle is not listed as recall under the VIN even though I am having problems. I have attached the recall document below that my vehicle needs.

On December 1st I was driving my Ford Fusion 2 the actual Ford dealership to get a look at their field service action that they had posted on my Ford app. While on my way I was stopped at a light on columbia drive in portland oregon and I had thought my foot slipped off the brake initially but actually would happen if my car had accelerated and to the gentleman in front of me causing a car accident. My insurance company would have nothing to do with it I tried to contact Ford the dealership that I normally go to to see if they could repair the front-end of my Ford Fusion that was demolished and also no airbags went off as I had just got my car out of the shop at Ford for a recall on the airbags my fiance was with me so there was definitely cause for concern fortunately nobody was hurt but like I said my car was demolished on the right passenger side front end I couldn't figure out why my car accelerating on its own so looking into it the explanation that I came up with was definitely the electronic throttle body motor and all I want is my car returned back to its prior condition I have no other vehicle I don't know who to contact I did contact Ford and was referred to a bigger Ford company if someone could help that would be amazing I'd appreciate it. . . Also no warnings or sensors went off in my vehicle I do have the sel package and once again no airbags were deployed and for the amount of damage that was done I was very surprised.

While driving, the "service power steering soon" notice came on the dash. My husband pulled into a parking lot and turned the car off. We waited about 5 minutes and turned the car back on. The dash then said "service power steering now" and there was no power steering. He was able to get us home by going slowly and avoiding roads with sharp turns. At the same time that the power steering would not engage, the engine began acting strange too. It would rev up high unless your foot was actively pressing on the gas pedal or if you were going slow enough (20 mph) for the ev mode to override the gas engine. If I was alone in the vehicle, I would have gotten in an accident as I am not physically strong enough to turn the steering wheel without power steering. The car is now sitting outside my home, waiting to be taken to the shop.

While driving on the highway the left driver side front end of the Ford Fusion hit the right rear/side of another car on the highway after being cut off by another car weaving in & out of traffic at a high speed. The Ford Fusion was designated "totaled" by the body shop and insurance adjuster due to the extensive damage. The airbags never deployed. The airbags on this Ford Fusion were part of the airbag recall and were replaced by the Ford dealership within the last 2 years so they should have been in good working order but they never deployed. Very concerning.

Was driving on the interstate in a construction zone, when the orange "wrench" light came on the dashboard and the car engine lost power. I was barely able to pull into the right lane and then off the road since it was a construction zone. The car has a code of p2111 posted, and I thought my 2010 Ford Fusion was covered under Ford's customer satisfaction program 13n03, but they do not show that my car is covered under 13n03, and can't explain why it is not. The symptoms of the problem exactly match that customer satisfaction program. It was quite a dangerous situation, having the engine lose power like that while driving on a crowded interstate, and I feel that even though this is an older vehicle, it should be llooked into further.

The car he had sold me was not fix or ready to be sold . He basically scammed me out my money he sold me a lemon car. Its drivable yes but its not . The dealer keep saying its alot of work to trade my car in . I told him about everything thats wrong with the car. I had to pay for the back breaks , wheel alignment, new tires and all that together was 1000$. Now I still have to fix the axle which is 500 plus my car is smoking cause alot of safety hazards like almost causing car accidents because the smoking from the car is heavy. He also gave me false information about the car . Its been 2 recalls and been in a accident. He lied and said he did my registration but he did not and also said the car came with plate and it did not! I cant do payments on the car regular now because the car is basically breaking down. Im trying to get my full entire refund back the 500$ down payment plus the $980 back from the payments . I got scammed . The car hesitates alot and when im driving the car starts swerving and also will shake . The breaks squeaky again and I have to keep putting oil in everyday . He told me he took $1000 off of the car because thats the loan that his banking gave me but he did not! my balance on paying for this car been $5400 left for the longest and I been paying for this car like im suppose to , on time . I got the car from kings auto llc.

After a throttle body replacement , my power steering rack went out now its very hard to turn.

The ev system is no longer working. The hybrid battery is healthy and the owners manual states it is expected to last the lifetime of the vehicle. Many others have noted this issue as the battery "aging out" as programmed by Ford. A suggested remedy is to reset the battery to age >0;<10. Without this reset, the hybrid runs on only the gas motor. At times, this delays acceleration both forwards and backwards as the gas motor (ice) starts back up after stop. This hesitation can easily cause a wreck when pulling into traffic from a stop.

Vehicle has 1 to 2 second delay after depressing throttle before acceleration occurs. Very similar to NHTSA id number: 11219222 and NHTSA id number: 10167224. Suspect it's related to NHTSA id number: 11233861 this has resulted in numerous close calls and near t-bone accidents in this car.

I purchased a new 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid se from a Ford dealership in fairfax, va. After owning the vehicle for approximately 9 years, the vehicle no longer operates in electric mode (it only operates in gas mode). My average mpg has dropped from 37-40 mpg to 25-27 mpg. I took it to a Ford dealership service center manassas, va in Nov 2019 who indicated they are aware of the problem but they have no solution to fix it (they initially were going to charge me $150 diagnostic fee but waived the fee and sent me home). There are numerous reports in Ford vehicle forums with the same complaint. Consensus is that Ford programmed the electronic mode to stop working after 9 years. When I purchased the vehicle, there was no disclosure that I would no longer have a properly working hybrid after 9 years. This end-of-life decision would have to be programmed into the vehicle's ecu at the time of manufacturing and should have been disclosed by Ford at the time of purchase. Had Ford disclosed this, it would have directly impacted my decision to purchase the vehicle. The fix appears to be reprogramming the vehicle to make it think it is less than 9 years old which returns the hybrid functions to normal. According to several forums, some Ford service centers have conduct this fix, but the majority of Ford service centers are not willing/able to resolve this issue. Abs control module malfunction. Makes brake pedal extra spongy and hard to brake.

Bought used Ford Fusion on 9/16/19 from fred bean Cadillac- Buick in doyalstown PA. After about driving it for 950 miles on 10/04/19 an yellow wrench icon appeared on the dash board and the car seemed to lose power. The car was parked and the car was turned off, once the car was restarted the wrench icon disappeared. Made appointment with dealer where the car was purchased from at 7:30am on 10/05/19 to have the car looked at. Was told no error code was found, but later that same day while driving home around 2:00pm the wrench icon reappeared and the loss of power happened turning off from rt 332 (yardley-newton rd speed 55mph) on to stony hill rd speed 40mph. Once I go to a red light at stony hill and yardley langhorne rd intersection I turned car off, then restarted car and wrench icon disappeared.

When the vehicle accelerated, the rpms increased, but the transmission would not switch gears smoothly like it was designed to do. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who only printed out the recall information. The manufacturer also informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 59,000.

We had driven to a football game, when we returned to the car it would not start. All the lights worked, it turned over perfectly every time, but it would not start. Had it towed to the mechanic in the morning and it started for them. However, after multiple test they were able to get it to stop starting. Checked the codes and it said O2 sensor. Replaced O2 sensor. Car died on my way home from the mechanic while pulling out onto the highway from a stop sign where vehicles are traveling 60mph with my two small children in the car. Terrifying! I barely chugged across the lanes and got the nose of my car on the shoulder. I turned the car off and after a few tries it restarted. When I got home, I took the battery cables off the battery for the weekend as I read that could help the faulty computer issue. So far, I have not experienced this issue again. A couple of weeks before this, I noticed that at speeds of 50 mph the car felt like it was speeding up and slowing down really fast like pulsing.

Dashboard warning lights suddenly came on, temperature gage went to hot and car suddenly shut off while moving.

I was driving 70 mph down the highway and my car just quit running. A few warning lights came on and I pulled over to the shoulder of the road. I was able to restart the car and merged onto the highway; the car quickly died again. I had the car towed home and was unable to start the car again since the anti-theft lock light was on. I had the car towed to a dealership and I am waiting to hear back from them.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Rapid deceleration: while driving on the freeway rapid deceleration occurred. Car slowed to about 25mph and would not accelerate when gas pedal was pushed. Exited freeway. . Turned engine off and restarted. Car operated normal. No error icons showed. About a half mile from home problem reoccurred crawled home at 10mph. Next several days problem did not reoccur. About a week later same problem reoccurred while driving home . . 10mph. Spoke to Ford service to see if they would cover repairs and they declined. Took it to my repair shop and they replaced the throttle body. $600. Very scary dangerous situation when this occurs on the freeway.

Upon 9 years of age my 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid (any many others) no longer functions as a hybrid vehicle and will only use the internal combustion engine. This causes a safety concern due to the fact that the ev motor is supposed to kick in from a stop upon acceleration. This causes a significant delay in acceleration while it tries to use the ev motor but cannot due to this limitation. While at roundabouts or when making left hand turns this is a significant safety issue. Ford has done nothing to address this or even acknowledge the fact that this issue exists.

After turning the vehicle off and restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally; however, the failure recurred approximately four hours later. While at a stop light, the engine suddenly began to rev very high and the engine suddenly accelerated. While depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward and caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The driver shifted into park to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to jd byrider (1561 west liberty Ave, pittsburgh, PA) where it was diagnosed that the motor mount was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

2010 Fusion hybrid lost power then shut down. A warning on the instrument panel said to pull over safely and stop. I have done research and found other drivers of the same make and model are having the same problem. If this were to happen in heavy traffic it could cause an accident. Apparently Ford motor is aware of the problem but has done nothing to remedy the situation. My understanding is the problem may be with the throttle body according to some of the complaints I have read. My vehicle is out of warranty but others have had the problem with vehicles under warranty. This problem occurred at 45 mph, thankfully just before turning onto i95 interstate entrance.

The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel vapor vent valve failed and the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v79300 (fuel systm, gasoline). The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,676.
