36 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2015

Noticed a strong fuel odor coming from car. Upon further inspection, noticed that there was a puddle under the gas tank, coming from the rear passanger side, towards the top. As I took a closer look, I found that it was leaking from the seam where the two halves of the tank were put together. It was a steady drip, loosing about a half gallon of fuel in a 24 hour period. Had the car towed to the dealer and they confirmed it was leaking from the seam. Quoted me at $1500 for the fix. Filed a claim with Ford and waiting to hear back from them.

37 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2015

I was driving down the interstate when all of sudden I loss power and the car seems like it does not want to take gas so lucky I was in the right lane and was able to get in to emergency lane before I got hit from behind by a tractor trailer. I have had the car looked at and told that there is a problem with the vacuum system on this car. It has to do the the filler neck on the gas tank. My mechanic tells me this is a common problem with Ford Fusion and this model. I think this should be looked in to before someone else is in the smae boat and gets killed or cause one serious problem.

38 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

The fuel tank is leaking on the vehicle. The warranty company says it was rust. The dealer informed me that this is not rust and was common on this model of Fusion. They say it is leaking from the top of the tank near the seam. I cannot fill the tank in my car and this is a danger because it is close to the exhaust. The cost of the repair will be $1200 and when I called Ford they just are aware there is a issue but also tell me that there is nothing they can do.

39 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2015

8/24/2015 had the charcoal canister and vapor control valve replaced in my 2010 Ford Fusion by dealership. Took car filled up tank, drove car, noticed a smell and gas running out from underneath car near the rear passenger tire. Called dealership back took car back in and was told on 8/25/2015 that there was/is a break in weld of gas tank. Over $1600. 00 later I had to pay, out of pocket for repairs. I have found on numerous web site (I. E. Repair pal and safercar. Gov to name a few) that this is a known/ongoing issue.

40 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while in park, the contact noticed strong fuel fumes emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel tank had corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000. Oo.

41 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

My 2010 Ford Fusion developed a gas leak on August 1 2015. The leak was a constant drip coming from the gas tank. I immediately took my car to the repair shop to be fixed. After reviewing the gas tank, I was told by the repair shop that the metal gas tank was corroding at the seams and had corroded almost all the way through in one area(passenger side). The gasoline was seeping through the corroded seam in multiple areas. I was also told the metal tank did not have a weather coating to prevent corrosion. I was very surprised and frustrated that a 5year old car has a gas tank that corroded through and leaked gasoline. This is a huge safety issue and Ford needs to have a recall.

42 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Suspected crack in fuel tank due to smell of gasoline under car continuous since summer of 2015, plus clutch regularly slips now also as though problem in transmission.

43 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

The check engine light came on several times and was returned to dealer for service. Kept being told was a dirty flap in the capless fuel neck. Quit taking it since warranty ran out and cost 100. 00 per issue without issue being fixed. Drove with check engine light on until I smelled gas while parked in garage and saw gas leak under the car between back seat area and trunk. Took to Ford dealer and they told me the gas tank was crack and had to replace at a cost of 1600. 00 after tank was replaced the check engine light has stayed off. Found out that many of the 2010 Fusions have had the same issue and the 2013 Fusions are under recall.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2015

Once again I have another big issue with this car and year. The car smells of fuel. Possible fuel tank corrosion. It is very unsafe for anyone to be within 20feet of the car , let alone light a cigarette or a match. Why is the NHTSA not recalling these vehicles, Ford Fusions, but recalling everyone after the 2010 year model. You recalled the 2013 for the fuel system, 2011 & 2012 for the power steering, alot of the complaints are all for the 2010 year model, and you keep skipping over this year. . . Horrible year Ford has ever made with this car. Some one is going to get killed !!!! I should never have to put a new fuel tank in a 4year old car . . .

45 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2015

Gas tank rotted out on 2010 Ford Fusion. Caused major fuel leak.

46 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

~tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning numerous times. The contact stated that the vehicle diagnosis was unable to bleed up fuel tank vacum. Priority Ford norfolk (7520 n military hwy, norfolk, va 23518) stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

47 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the fuel inlet warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank failed. The vehicle was not repaired. While driving approximately 5 mph, the steering wheel seized and required excessive force. The contact stated that the power steering assist fault message appeared on the dashboard. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

48 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2015

Smell of gas on passager side of car took it into body shop said it was a leak at the seam of the fuel tank talked to Ford said since we were out of warranty would not replace fuel tank. . . Car is only 5 years old this is crazy for something to happen to fuel tank in just 5 years.

49 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2015

I noticed that my car was not starting immediately after pumping gas. I drove it and the check engine light came on. It then went off and came back on the next day and has stayed on. The other night as I got off the interstate and came to a stop I noticed that my car was shaking horribly. I took my car to have the engine light tested and it stated code: p144a evap purge vapor line restricted/blocked. The other code was: p1450 unable to bleed up bleed fuel tank vacum. I called Ford to complain and to let them know that this was the second time I had a problem with the fuel line. When I first purchased the car in 2012 I had a light about the fuel tank come on immediately. I took it back to Ford and they corrected it. Now I again am having problems with the fuel tank. When I called Ford to tell them there is obviously a defect in the car they were not helpful and basically told me there was nothing they could do. Explaining that now this is the second occurrence with a fuel tank on this car and that they should repair it I was told it wasn't under warranty and they are not responsible. Now if this was a one time thing it would be one thing but to have it happen again shows an obvious defect in the making of this car. Online I have seen many complaints about the same issues with Ford model cars.

50 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

After a fill-up a smelt gas, once I checked under the vehicle I could see fuel leaking from the passenger side of the gas tank. My mechanic has removed the tank and found corrosion and a split in the top of the tank. I bought the vehicle brand new from a dealership in orlando, florida, and as far as I know it has never been submerged in water.

51 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

Smelled gas and saw leak from top of tank down side of tank by passenger side rear wheel. Mechanic dropped the tank and said a split occorred on a seam through no fault of corrosion. He believes it to a manufacturer defect. All the vehicles I have owned never had a leaking gas tank from corrosion or otherwise.

52 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2013

This problem has happened twice within the past 3 days. At the first occurrence, we were driving rather slowly, appx. 35 mph. The car lost power without warning, and started misfiring violently. Depressing the fuel pedal had no effect. The yellow wrench warning icon on the dash was lit. We were going down a slight hill on side street, so it was easy to drift to the side of the road. We put the car in park and allowed it to run for a few minutes, but it continued to misfire and seemed starved for fuel. It did keep running for about 5-10 minutes more before we shut it off. While waiting for the tow truck, my husband tried restarting the car. It started immediately and ran fine with no warning lights. The next day the mechanic checked it but could find no issue or record of an error code. He added "dry gas" in case the problem was due to water freezing in the fuel line. The weather is quite cold. The third day (today) I filled the fuel tank and added another bottle of "dry gas". I drove appx 35 miles (in several segments) then the problem happened again. This time I was in traffic, going appx 55 miles per hour. The behavior was identical: pronounced misfiring, no power, fuel pedal had no effect, wrench warning light on. I was fortunate to have barely enough momentum to get most of the way off the highway. This time I restarted the car after about 10 seconds. Again, it started right up and I was able to drive the final 6 miles of my commute. In researching the problem, it seems that the cause may be the throttle assembly. We will be taking the car back to the repair shop and I will be happy to report back on the resolution.

53 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

Gasoline is leaking through welded seam of gas tank.

54 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2013

Loss of power on interstate going 60 mph after 1. 5 hour drive. Weather: sunny, upper 70's. Throttle control lost. Changing accelerator position has no effect on rpms. Gas tank 3/4 full. Engine still running, coasted off onto the shoulder. Engine vibrated a lot but may have been antilock brakes kicking in. Turned off engine. A few minutes later started again, but it wouldn't start at first. Recently had 50000 mile service. Symptoms consistent with those reported in the press for Ford Fusion problems with throttle assembly. Safety issue makes it a scary situation on interstates especially where there is no immediate place to pull over (miles of construction, for example) with heavy truck traffic behind you.

55 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong gasoline fuel odor. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the fuel tank was leaking. The contact would only refuel the vehicle to half full to avoid a fuel leak. The manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 13v227000 (fuel system, gasoline) the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 135,000 and the approximate current mileage was 137,000.

56 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that he noticed a puddle of liquid near the front passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection where they advised that there was a hairline fracture on the fuel tank, which would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 165,000.

57 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2012

We have had an abnormal fuel smell and leakage from the gas tank area. We have mentioned this to the Ford dealership on a few occasions. We were told there was a notice of recall #13s04 but when we talked to the dealership we were told this was not for our but for a 2013. Why are they not taking care of the same problem for the earlier model. We have now taken our car in for 2 other recalls and find this is a very dangerous and possible life threatening problem.
