3 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2016

Lost power after momentary stumble while mildly accelerating on straight level city road around 35mph. Damp cool evening after much rain preceding days. Occurred about 2 miles after starting from cool engine (2-3 hours @ 60f) thought it had stalled but noted ~1000rpm, but not responding to throttle pedal at all? clutched-in (6-speed manual) and coasted to stop, idle holding, but never responding to pedal? noted wrench symbol glowing on dash. Wished I had my obd-ii monitor in the car! turned car off, removed key, opened door (to kill accessory power). Closed door, counted to 20 and restarted. It started a bit hard and stumbled a little initially, but the wrench was gone and I had a working throttle again. It seemed like it may have minimally stumbled a bit on the 2-3 miles home as well, although I was driving it very gently, and possibly overly aware. Traveled lightly used roads in case it acted up again. Once home I went in, grabbed my obd-ii test device and hooked it up. No codes? no mil codes, no pending codes, no permanent codes? went in and began web search and found Ford etb and csp=13n03 investigation and mitigation agreement. Wrote this, and will discuss with dealer tomorrow.

8 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

After stopping at a stop sign, when I pushed the accelerator, the vehicle jerked and would not accelerate past the idle drive speed; a wrench light displayed on the dash; I slowly maneuvered into a parking lot. After restarting the vehicle, I managed to get home and drive the car for several days without issue. A quick internet search led me to suspect the throttle body. On about July 29th, the same thing happened. I pulled to the side of the parking lot that I was in and restarted the vehicle. On the morning of July 31st, as I put it in park at my place of employment, the vehicle stalled (the engine stopped and rpm display showed 0) and the battery light and oil lamp light displayed. The vehicle started right back up. Upon leaving my place of employment, the vehicle stalled four additional times within the 9 miles between work and the nearest auto parts store. The employee stated that the affected part was the "throttle body" just as I had found before.

9 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

Was waiting to turn in my apartment complex, pushed on the gas, rpm's shot up to over 1500 and car would not move, then it slammed into gear and took off with wheels squealing. Sounded like something was then being dragged under car. Stopped and looked but nothing, put in gear to drive to parking spot and same thing, didn't move, rpm's up to 1500 and then slammed into drive. Did make it to the parking stall where it then would not move at all when put in reverse and then into drive. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership. Seems to be a re-occurring issue with all the other complaints that I have seen. No warning lights came on at all. Definitly a transmission/transfer case problem, which I have read is common for this year. This car was bought used with 22,785 miles on it and have only had it 4 months and put 5744 miles on it. Something definitely needs to be looked into, a vehicle with 28,529 miles on it, no longer covered under the manufacturers warranty and I need to have a new transmission?? something is wrong here. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty!.

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact mentioned that the battery and oil warning lamps illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the air flow sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 96,540 and the current mileage was 99,448.

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2013

Went to make a left hand turn in an intersection and car would not go. No matter how hard I pushed the gas pedal, it would not give the car gas to move. The rpm showed the car was idling, and the service wrench light came on. Engine was shaking and appeared to be sputtering. Very scary. I was almost hit by another car because of being stalled in the intersection.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2013

This has happened 7 times in the last 2 days. While driving, the engine just quits, or while idling at a red light , it just stalls. The yellow wrench light comes on. It restarts, but this is very frightening when it happens while driving at 30-40 mph. Fortunately for me, no one was behind me when it happened and I was able to restart the car when the engine died in the middle of the road. I drove it straight home, but it happened 5 times on the 8 minute drive home. I researched and found that this is a known problem with Ford. I reached out to Ford motor corp by email and their response to me was basically, "hate that for you, we're not issuing a recall. " Ford is perfectly aware of this problem but corporate greed far outweighs consumer safety and they won't own up to the fact that they have a shoddy, and dangerous product.

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

Was traveling 45 mph wrench light came on and stalled.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving 40 mph, the check engine and electronic throttle control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle lost power and stalled. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the mass air flow sensor failed and idled at . 58v when it should be at . 75v. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the throttle body was previously repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,881.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2013

Was driving on a local road, speed limit was 35mph, I was slowing down to stop at a red light then it turned green so I accelerated on the gas and then the vehicle started to lose power and and did not want to go and started acting like it was going to stall, so I pulled over parked and turned the vehicle off and then waited a few minutes and turn the car back on and the car seemed fine and I was able to drive again, this has happened at least 3 times in since then and I was told it was the throttle body that needed to be replaced, I am going to replaced it and hopefully it will do the trick. I heard that this is also a problem with other Ford cars and is currently under investigation for a recall, I hope this letter helps with getting a recall submitted.

16 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

I was driving home going 45 mph when my car stalled without warning. When I tried to give it gas, it started jumping and jerking the wrench light came on. I was able inch by inch to move my car to the adjacent turning lane, turn on my flashers and call my husband on my cell phone. He was on his way home also and pulled up behind me. He tried to give it gas too but it would not budge. He turned the ignition off and then cranked the car. The wrench light went off and the car had power - just like turning it off had reset something. We were only a couple of miles from our house, so he drove by 2011 Ford Fusion home and I followed in his truck. I then called my dealer, jim tidwell Ford on barrett parkway and told them what had happened. They suggested that I call a wrecker and have it towed to their location as driving the car might due further damage or the incident might re-occur. So, that's what I did. A service technician called me first thing this morning and I went over what had happened with him. He called me this afternoon and said my car was ready for pick up. The problem was the throttle body and motor assembly and since it was under warranty there would be no charge to me. I can't believe Ford isn't declaring a recall on this part. If I had been on the expressway, I feel certain I would have been rear ended. This problem will cause someone to get killed. I'm just lucky no one hit me. It happened so suddenly and without warning. This type of situation will make you fall out of love with your Ford product. I don't believe I will ever buy a Ford product again, even though I prefer to buy american products.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

This is my second occurrence: I was driving at a level speed of about 45 with the flow of traffic (in-city road, speed limit 45). When I heard my car seem to shift out of gear, and start stalling and slowing down and the wrench icon on the dash was lit up. I was in the left lane of a four-lane street. I got to quickest upcoming shoulder, and turned my vehicle fully off and back on. This stopped my car from stalling and shaking. But I am starting to feel very unsafe in my vehicle because there is no warning when my car will stall out and I do a lot of highway traveling. This was the second time in a 2 week period that this has happened.

18 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2013

Car stalled while on highway. Because of traffic, speed was approximately 40 mph. With no power/ acceleration, driver turned on hazards and maneuvered to left shoulder. Car was shut down and restarted. Problem recurred. Car was towed to nearest dealer. Throttle body was replaced and problem has not recurred.

21 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

While pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy road my car began to stall and not run properly, it would not keep even 1000 rpm. The only dashboard light that lit up was an orange wrench. I looked at the temp and it was normal so I slowly crossed the intersection and immediately pulled over and shut it off. I did not try to restart it.

22 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2013

Three issues have arisen in the last month: 1) while slowing down to turn a corner, to stop or after a stop and starting to accellerate, my car stalls 2) at a stop light, my car jumps - will intermittedly stall when going to accellerate 3) after putting gas in the tank it is very difficult to turn over.

23 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

7/30/13- vehicle would not go above an idol, car sputtered and stalled while sitting at a stop light (this happened 3-4 times same day); while slowing to round a curve, pressed accelerator to pick up speed and car stalled out (2 times); there were no symbols on the dash this day. 8/5/13-started car in am, car sputtered badly, put car in drive & car sputtered part way up street, did not seem to be getting gas when accelerator was pressed, "wrench" light appeared on dash; turned car off, waited a few minutes, started car again and it ran okay & no warning lights. I purchased this vehicle "used" on 4/4/13 from blue knob auto, altoona, PA.

24 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2013

Two days in a row my 2011 Ford Fusion stalled and an error symbol of a wrench appeared on the instrument panel. I coasted to curb, turned the car off and then restarted. Vehicle then resumed normal operation. In both cases I was at an intersection and fortunately the vehicles behind me were able to drive around me.

25 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Started the vehicle and began driving, the throttle died in the middle of an intersection. Had to restart car in intersection. The throttle returned momentarily. Slowly drove the vehicle at < 5mph (as all it would allow) to autozone. Received p2112 code: throttle control stuck shut. Had to tow home. . Read more...

26 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while traveling at unknown speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was moved to the shoulder where it was restarted. The vehicle resumed normal function. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.

27 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2013

My car engine "stalled" (the engine was running, but there was no power from the engine to accelerate) while I was driving and in the process of increasing my speed up to the 55 mph speed limit after turning onto a major road. Since there was no engine power to accelerate, I had to let the car roll to the shoulder where I pulled over and restarted it. This has happened about 4 times in the last 6 monthsand I am very fearful that the car will stall while I am on a high speed, high traffic, multi-lane highway, which I use to drive to and from work every day.

28 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

I wanted to contact you about a serious safety issue in my 2011 Ford Fusion. I took it in for service in January 2013 and was told that the throttle body needed replaced after my car stalled a few times. I was told then the throttle body was backordered. I tried again in June and was told that this is a common problem and they are still backordered. After that, I was told that I could simply take the key out and put it back in after it stalled and it would be fine. And they were backordered from Ford. On July 11th, the car stalled at the corner of I-70 and I-270 in columbus while traveling at 65mph. I pulled off to the side of the road and reset the car. While trying to get off the road, I went off the road to avoid any other cars as their was construction and no shoulder. After restarting it, I got back onto the road and the car stalled and I wasn't able to make it back off the road and nearly was hit by a semi from behind. The car stalled a minimum of ten times during rush hour.

29 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

The first episode occurred when leaving a parking spot. Car would not go more than 2 mph and was chugging. The others (4-5 incidents) happened while driving, often at 30-50 mph. Sometimes it would be after a turn and during acceleration, others would be simply driving down the road. Car would stall, yellow wrench light comes on, and I would have to stop, shift to park and turn off the car, then re-start. It would be fine for a few days, and another episode would happen.

30 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

The vehicle started to lose power while I was driving 45mph on a major roadway. I hit the accelerator to try and make it go, but the car continued to stall. Luckily I was able to avoid getting hit head on or rear ended. I let the car sit for and hour before I started it. I made it about 5 miles before it lost all power and stalled again. I was almost rear ended again. The only way Ford will fix it is if it registers a fault code which it is not doing. It just loses the ability to accelerate and stalls within a minute or less. They told me I just have to drive it. It is not safe to drive until they fix the problem.

31 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

While driving on the freeway the car went an idle speed forcing me to get off of the freeway at reduced speed. Tried to restart car several times. Would only idle rough. Let it sit 1/2 hour waiting for aaa ran ok after another restart. Repeated several times since. Once I was stalled in the middle of a traffic controlled intersection. Was told I need a new throttle body and they are back ordered could take 6 weeks before one would be available because of long list of orders. This says it is a major design/manufacture fault/issue. I feel it should be recalled and replaced free if there are that many issues with this item.

32 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

I was driving my 2011 Ford Fusion s with a v4 engine on 07/03/2013 at approximately 19:15 in the evening. I was traveling on a slight incline on a two-lane road at a speed of approximately 50 m. P. H. When all of the sudden the car stalled and would not longer accelerate. I pulled off the road and the car began to shake and the transmission slipped while shifting down. I turned off the car and then turned it on again. I drove to my destination 2 hours away without further incident. I drove the car a second time and the incident did not recur. The third time I drove the car after the first incident, the problem occurred again, which was on 07/05/2013 at approximately 17:00. It occurred in the middle of an interstate and I had to pull to the side of the road by cutting across traffic without the ability to accelerate!!! I took the car to a Ford dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a faulty throttle control. I had to pay for the repair out of pocket because the warranty expired at 36,000 miles (my car has 38000 miles). This is a serious public safety concern. I have read that 2010 Ford Fusions also have a history of the same problem at about 2-3 years after purchase. I am grateful to have avoided a crash, but one could easily find themselves in a situation where they cannot accelerate because of this problem and end up seriously injured or dead because of a crash that it could cause. The car suddenly stops accelerating and this happens apparently at random, usually within 10-15 minutes of turning the car on.

33 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

I was driving and I lost power- I was unable to accelerate, car stalled causing cars behind me to swerve off road to avoid hitting my car. The dealership says it is the throttle body sensor and there is a nationwide shortage of parts.

34 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

I traded in my mercedes for a 2011 Ford Fusion with ffv to buy american. Everything was fine until up to the point that the car stalled & surges at 60 mph on the freeway. I limped into the freeway shoulder and stopped the car. My family has never been in this very dangerous situation before. I was very disappointed that a car with 30,000 miles will have this kind of a problem. I think Ford still has a problem with reliability. I'm going back to german cars.

35 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2013

Driving 70 mph on road heading home, car stalled/no power, gauges died, was in right lane and able to pull off to right shoulder without getting rear ended. Once stopped, put car in park and turned off key. Wrench light also showed in dash before turned off. Sat for a few minutes with car off, then restarted car. No lights in dash when restarted, so put car in drive and took off down the road. As I accelerated, car stalled/lost power again, gauges died, dash lights of engine and wrench appeared this time, steered to right shoulder and again was able to get off without being rear ended. Turned key off again. Sat for awhile. Started car again, engine and wrench light were on in dash, pulled out onto the road again, driving slowly. Turned car around and headed to repair facility. Drove slowly without going above 50 mph, lights stayed on in dash and made to repair facility that was about 3 or 4 miles away, driving slowly, not the usual speed limit for the road. Repair facility read the code which came up throttle body and suggested contacting the Ford dealer. Waiting for return call from Ford service manager at this time. Found investigation opened by NHTSA in March of this year regarding faulty circuit board for the throttle body.
