Had cruise set at 55mph and lost all power. The wrench light came up on the dash and could not accelerate. Had to pull over to the side of the busy highway. Restarted the car and it seemed normal. The car has done this multiple more times since the incident yesterday. It is now doing it every time we drive. It is extremely dangerous to lose power in your car on a busy highway! this problem needs addressed. From what I read online there are many people that have/had the same problem!.

On June 27, 2014 I took my car to a dealership for a recall to reprogram it. On July 14, 2014, my car just stopped running while I was driving. After several attempts, it did restart after I turned off the air conditioner and radio. The next day I brought it into the dealership once again. The service person told me the same thing happened to several other customers after the initial recall and that now the throttle body needed to be replaced. When I asked why that wasn't replaced when it was reprogrammed, he said Ford told them to wait until the second problem occurred before replacing it. My concern is safety. Had my car stopped running on a busy highway going a higher speed limit, I might have been killed. I called Ford customer service and was given a case number and told this would be "looked into. " how many might die before this recall will be done properly?.
While driving down the interstate to work, the car all of the sudden jerked and started to decelerate. I was able to pull off onto the shoulder, while the car continued to jerk forward. I turned off the ignition, waited a few seconds, and restarted the car. I proceeded to reenter the highway, and a few seconds later it did the same thing again. I once again pulled off onto the shoulder, turned off the ignition, and restarted the car. This time the car ran fine all the way to work. I am concerned that since the freeway has a few construction spots where there are no shoulder pulloffs, I could have been in a serious accident.
Was stopped at a light and when started to take off car cut off and jerked forward. The "wrench" symbol appeared. Tried to start car and it shook as starting. Was able to get started and light (wrench symbol) went off. I only have @24000 miles on my vehicle and it is well-maintained. From what I have read, this seems to be a widespread problem with this model year Fusion. I was lucky that I was not rear-ended or crossing a busy intersection when this failure occurred. This is extremely dangerous and could be fatal. Ford should issue a recall immediately and not after someone gets killed due to this failure.
2011 Ford Fusion. Consumer writes in regards to throttle body problems. The consumer received a letter from Ford stating he could possibly experience a sudden reduction of engine power. The consumer believed a recall should be issued, instead of issuing warranty extension.
Vehicle over accelerated when coming to a stop. I put both feet on brakes and shifted into park/neutral (has happened several times) and car accelerates to over 7000 rpm and automatically goes back down to normal. I have had the throttle body & motor assembly replaced (4/28/2014) yet it happened again immediately upon initial drive from Ford dealership. Dealership kept my car for 3 additional days and then advised that they could find nothing wrong and I was told (sales general manager) that what I was reporting to them "could not happen".
After about 3 weeks of having the vehicle it started having a hard time starting it would take 3 or 4 times before the vehicle would actually start, this has been going on since 3/12/2014 then on may 9th, 2014 I was going to ft wayne and I lost power in the vehicle pulled over sit for a few minutes (and was lucky I was able to pull over on the interstate) after sitting for about 10 to 15 minutes then the vehicle started. I was late arriving to where I was going after the event I get in my car it takes 5 times to start, after the vehicle starting I head to the interstate it is 11pm I stop for a cup of coffee get back in my car and it will not start it back fires I let it sit for about 30 minutes after 3 attempts of trying the vehicle starts and I head for home. I call the southworth Ford in marion indiana and now they are telling me that they need to do a diagnostics test and it will cost me $80. 00 to see what is wrong and if there is a recall. (I have already talked to someone and they told me there is a recall of the electronic throttle body) and now another person is telling me it will be $80. 00 to determine what is wrong with the vehicle. I need this fixed!!!! my son is getting ready to leave for afghanistan this is the reason I bought the vehicle so that I could go and see him off and I will be having a 10 hour drive. (I paid cash for this vehicle) and now they want to charge me for a recall? please help so I can see my soldier off for his 2nd tour. . . . . . .
During normal driving conditions and speed, the car just stopped being responsive to the acceleration pedal without warning, the maintenance wrench light came on, and the car started slowing down. I was able to turn on the hazard lights and pull over to a safe location, while cars were pulling up behind me very quickly. As the car was left idling it became very rough, like the car was missing. To correct the problem, I had to turn off the car, wait thirty seconds to a minute and start the car again. The car started a little rough but returned to normal operation. The maintenance wrench light was not illuminated and no other warning lights illuminated. This has happened twice so far about a month apart. The first time this happened the vehicle was less than three years old and only had 23,214 miles on it. Luckily both times it happened on a local street and not on a highway. I consider this a safety and reliability problem. You have no idea when your car is going to just stop accelerating as you are driving.
I was driving home from work and turn left at 25 mph. I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate and a wrench service light came on. I had to pull over and turn the car off . It took a while to start again. It happens everytime I take the car out and now shifts really rough. I took it to dealer and they said they know about the problem but will not replace part under warranty. The throttle body need to be replaced. It is just a matter of time before someone gets hurt. Please act quickly. I think this should be a safety recall.
Vehicle was being driven slowly to parking area when it suddenly accelerated and engine kept revving up and it lunged forward and crashed into a large tree, demolishing the front end. The Ford parts performed exactly as they should have, preventing damage to the windshield or cabin area, but airbags did not deploy. The driver was not injured but was shaken up by the accident. Upon inspection by the body shop and mechanic, the linkage was broken and damaged and needs further investigation to see if a defect in the linkage was a cause or contributing factor. Damage to the front end is substantial and estimated in excess of $8,000 with the seen damage thus far.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the wrench warning icon illuminated as the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 50,000.
Traveling 70 mph on the highway and lost power with no warning. Coasted to a stop with engine at a rough idle only. Accelerator pedal had no effect on engine rpm. Had vehicle towed the my Ford dealership which diagnosed a failed "drive by wire" throttle body. I only have 37,400 miles on the car and yes 1,400 past the warranty (convenient $ for Ford). This failed component at 70 mph on the highway caused several moments of anxiety until I got safely off the road.
Began having problems with this vehicle the the second month after purchase. The first incident was steering wheel locked and I could not control the direction of the car. I ended up on the left side of the road off the shoulder before I could stop it. It happened on several occasions. Car dies for no reason. I end up having it towed or restarted by charging battery. The battery always has a full charge. Also I have been shopping and get in the car to start it and it will not start. Door handles would not work from inside. Windows would not open. Had to force window down enough to open from the outside. Had front door handle assemble replaced had transfer case resealed horrible smell new tires 3x since it was purchased had rear drive shaft replaced fuel pump replaced had taken it to Ford just recently for what I deemed was computer problems, of course they could not find anything wrong. I was told by my mechanic the last time I had new tires put on the car that I would need new rims soon. The rims are eroding from the inside out. I have several invoices for work that was done and a few more I can't locate at this time. I would like to send them all to you. Purchase car 12/1/12.
I was driving on the freeway when suddenly the vehicle lost speed completely and the wrench light turned on. I was fortunate enough to be driving fast enough and in the right lane and so was able to exit the freeway but the vehicle was extremely slow, not even 1mph. It did begin to shake while slowing down. This is an extremely dangerous malfunction. Had I been in the left lane it would have been impossible to remove myself off the freeway safely. This is an issue that must be addressed.
I was on the freeway driving approximately 65 mph and the car just suddenly shut off. I managed to coast off the freeway and was able to start it back up but shut off again two blocks down the road. It continued to shut off all the way to my mechanics shop. My mechanic found the issue to be with the throttle body. I had the throttle body replaced. He advised me that if the issue persisted that I would have to go to Ford dealer to have the powertrain control module reprogrammed.
Driving on freeway the car went limp and lost speed without responding to gas pedal. The wrench light came on at the time it happened. This happened twice, first time yesterday on the freeway, second time today while on freeway going to work. Once I was able to pull over and stop the engine, it car started up again and ran.
The error occurred as I was driving on a major 8-lane highway. I was about a quarter-mile from my exit (after being on the highway for 60 miles) when I felt a "clunk" and an orange-lit wrench appeared on my dash. As I turned onto the exit ramp, I slowed to a stop at a stop-light, waiting to turn left. While the brake was depressed, the car was attempting to move forward very abruptly, as part of it's "limp home" feature. When the light turned green, I released the brake and attempted to accelerate through the intersection, but pressing the gas pedal produced no response from the car. After limping through the intersection, I shifted the car into park and turned the engine off. After waiting 10-15 seconds, I restarted the car and the throttle issue and dash light were both gone. I have since driven ~100 miles without seeing the issue re-appear.
Driving down highway, car loses power like it wasn't pulling, luckily I was in slow lane on highway, when I got over to shoulder of 2 lane highway the wrench on dashboard lit up & car died, after sitting for 5--7 minutes it cranked back up and I was able to take to Ford dealership. I am not real happy after reading all the problems people are having. I usually take my 5 yr old grandson to daycare in morning so after this I am kinda leary of driving this car. If I had have been in the fast lane on this highway I would have had a harder time getting out of traffic and probably hit by another car or an 18 wheeler. Thank god I did not have my grandson with me. After this I seriously think I need to get rid of this vehicle.
While driving, vehicle suddenly lost power. Rpms dropped and vehicle slowed to only a few mile per hour. Vehicle would not accelerate. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership, and I was informed it was a throttle body issue. I was informed this is a common issue, and there might be a recall. If this had occurred on the freeway, it could has been disastrous.
We were going down a major roadway at about 45 mph when the car just decelerated to about 1 mph. It took us awhile to get over 2 lanes of heavy traffic to the side of road where we stopped the car. The wrench light came on. With it still running we popped open hood and car appeared to be running just fine. We could not get the rpm's to go up at all. We turned off car completely, and the wrench light went off and car drove normal. 2 hrs later the car did the exact same thing and we pulled over and started it up again and got home. We believe it has to do with the electronic throttle body, bc other complaints are exactly as ours with this year, make, and model of car.
Incident #1. When accelerating from a stop, the engine started jerking and the car rolled forward slowly and the powertrain service light illuminated. Shifted to neutral, rolled to shoulder, and re-started vehicle. Operated normally after re-start. Incident #2. (two days later) while accelerating from stop, when vehicle reached approximately 45 mph the engine started running poorly and the powertrain service light illuminated. Rolled to shoulder, and re-started vehicle. Operated normally after re-start.
I was driving on a five lane highway near raleigh, nc and I suddenly lost power and the car nearly stopped in the middle of the road. It was frightening and dangerous to get to the side of the road across three lanes when cars were flying by. Turned the car off, restarted it, and would get a mile or so, and it would lose power again. Happened at least 10 times, and so, using the flashers, I was able to make it to a Ford dealership. It was diagnosed as the throttle body going bad, and the service tech told me they had done hundreds of throttle body replacements for Fusions, and that an attempt to have a recall is going on. I was extremely fortunately to not be rear-ended which could have been a deadly crash, and it was terrifying trying to cross three lanes of traffic with the car barely moving as it lost all power in less than 10 seconds each time.
Lucky me, I happened to have two of these failed designed vehicles. My wife has a 2010 that developed throttle body problems at 35000 miles and now mine at 87500 miles. The 2010 left her stranded with zero engine power, in the middle of busy roads a total of two times before the dealership (palm coast Ford) on the third visit decided that just cleaning and spraying down the failing hardware didn't cut it and finally put a new one on, luckily still under warranty. The mechanic did however say that this is a common occurrence for these Ford products and that the same thing would probably happen to the throttle body he just put on. Why Ford did not fix the problem sooner at that point in time? my guess, not enough people had a direct link to their death from car accidents at that point in time! 20,000 miles later so far no other problems. Now my 2011 Fusion is a manual 6 speed. When my throttle body failed this morning while going to work I noticed that while in cruise control the speed was pulsing down and up around two mph. This would happen for a short time and then stop and be functioning properly for a while and then do it again. Finally at a light I noticed the idle up and down and after accelerating to 60 it suddenly went to idle of 900 rpm. No power from the engine. You could floor it and nothing. Well once again like many others that have had the same Ford failure experience I almost was hit by another vehicle because of no where to pull over. I will purchase the part and replace it myself. I thought I would give Ford a try again from years ago when I had a lynx that caught on fire, and a taurus sho with a poorly engineered clutch design, but they failed me again.
"wrench" light came on and car lost all power over 60 mph. Restarted vehicle underway and still had no power. Had to pull off the side of the road on a very dangerous highway on an extremely foggy morning. Restarted and car idled extremely rough and again had no acceleration. A few minutes later the vehicle restarted and continued on as normal. Exact same incident happened later that day on the way home. Vehicle did not want to start. After a few minutes of sitting, was able to continue on as normal. Have not drove the car since the incident.
While driving at all times, the vehicle would start to surge and buck then loose power. It never completely died but when I pulled over it ran terrible and would not accelerate. I turned it off for a few seconds and restarted it. It would run for a while, good, then the problem would reoccur. The engine light came on, I had the code checked. The result was a faulty throttle body or sort in the throttle body module.
Traveling at a steady speed and the engine cut out. Not completely but had no acceleration control. Have read on-line that this is called "limp" mode. Was able to pull safely off the road and then restarted the car after which the vehicle operated ok. This has happened 3 times in the last week. Took car to dealer who replaced the throttle body at no charge since the vehicle was still under warranty. Although I was lucky enough to avoid an accident or injury, I could see this being a serious safety issue for a driver on the expressway or pulling in to heavy traffic.
This issue is a big safety concern!! I have seen many statements online about the throttle body issue and their should be a recall!! I personally have had to have my car towed twice within a 2 week period because of this issue. Every time my car broke down it was the same thing. I was going along fine and then the car all of a sudden dies, chugs, I drift to the side of the road so I don't get hit and then the engine light comes on with the wrench tool! how scary and unsafe! I am just so glad I wasn't in an intersection or hit by another car because my Ford Fusion decided to die out of no where! I have had to go through two tows, days of waiting for my car to get fixed and my warranty deciding they aren't going to cover my cost!! unbelievable!!! Ford needs to take some action now! many people from what I have seen are going through the same thing and something needs to change. This issue shouldn't be on the customers shoulder and Ford needs to take responsibility before someone is seriously injured from an issue their cars are making. Please do something about this!.
Was driving at aprox. 45 mph when suddenly unable to accelerate car. Car did not shut off. Yellow wrench light came on dash. Drifted until able to stop vehicle. Shut off car and unable to start. Tried 2nd time and car restarted. A simple google search ended up with a tremendous amount of vehicles experiencing the same problem. Vehicle has not been recalled. Called Ford garage and expecting tow truck to arrive shortly. Unsafe to drive. This is a known and on going problem. Ford does have a special service message out for the known problem. It is as bad as the Toyota run away cars. Recall should be issued before someone is killed.
While driving my 2011 Ford Fusion through an intersection it cut off speed and throttle control abruptly. No accident but this issue left the possibility for one to happen. I was able to pull the car over after shutting it off and starting it several times. Left the car off for about 10 minutes and it started and was able to drive again. Made it to an autozone and found out it was throwing a cel of p2111. For the throttle body. The car had to be towed to the local Ford dealership. I was told that the throttle body had to be replaced and would cost about 500 dollars. The service tech was very well aware of this issue that persists in my model car.
Another throttle body issue I assume. . Going on a turning lane and my car just lost throttle control. . Held up an intersection traffic with my 2 year old twins in my backseat. . My car just went limp. It was very unsafe and I was scared. Turned off the engine and restarted it and fortunately made it home.
When coming to a stop, my car began to severely shake back and forth. It posed a danger risk for myself and my kids. Fortunately, I was able to get to the side of the road in time, because it seemed that my car was about to crash into the car in front of me. I have been told by the dealership that it is a throttle body issue and is not covered under the warranty.
My wife was driving and I was her passenger on miller park highway on the 18th when all of a sudden the car jerks forward on us, it starts sputtering like it was going to choke out, my wife then tried to get on the should when she noticed that the cars accelerator went all the way to the floor without any response from the car. Traffic was flying by us as the cars engine brake continued to slow us way way down. We were able to use the brakes. My wife finally got over to the side, turned on her hazards and turn off the car. We both sat on the side off roadway and I had to calm down my wife due to the fact hat she thought she was going to be in an accident. After a few minutes we turned on the car and the "wrentch" alert re-set itself and we were able to drive. My wife and I used to feel safe in our Ford Fusion, but unfortunately now we don't have any safe feelings after everything that our car has gone through ( blew out engine due to failed bearings, the trans slips all the time on us, etc etc ). We both truely loved this car, but now. . . . . .
I was traveling at a rate of 65 on the highway. The car started to slow down and would not accelerate. I was able to move over to the left hand shoulder of the highway. The "wrench" symbol displayed on the dash. I turned the car off, turned on hazard lights. I waited a few minutes started the car up and was able to travel to the dealership. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a faulty throttle body codes p2111 p2112. The throttle body was replaced and the vehicle appears to be running well now. This was a huge safety concern. My 9 year old son was in the backseat. Thank goodness we were able to make it to the shoulder of the highway. I did not receive any advance warnings from the vehicle prior to it refusing to accelerate.
