9 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

My vehicle has stalled while driving and is hard to start after fueling with gas. After taking it to Ford for recalls in October of 2018 and brought the issue up and they wanted to charge me for diagnostic. After taking my car to my mechanic shop for oil change and to look into the issue of stalling, they made me aware of the purge balance needing replaced and that would solve the issue with the vehicle stalling. Apparently, Ford knew this defect since 2013 and paid for replacement if a complaint was filed. Now into 2019, 93,000 miles and no warranty, Ford doesn't want to assist in paying for the replacement. I don't feel I should be responsible for paying for the repair. It is very dangerous to have the car stall in the road and around busy traffic.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2018

The engine issue:vehicle intermittently stalls while backing, and driving. The electrical throttle body was subject to a Ford customer satisfaction program 13n03, that program has now expired, and any vehicles with the now malfunctioning throttle body will receive no warranty, or compensation for repair costs. When the vehicle stalls while driving, especially at highway speeds, this presents an extremely dangerous situation. The steering issue: two recalls were issued from Ford regarding this issue. Ford 13s06, NHTSA 13v232000 Ford 15s14, NHTSA 15v250000 our vehicle wa not subject to the first recall, but was subject to the second. The recall work was performed by the original owner on may 15, 2015, the vehicle had approximately 30,000 miles at that time. The dealer inspected the steering gear motor for mounting bolt corrosion. The bolts were apparently found to all be intact, and a simple anti rust wax was applied to the bolts. Per Fords directive, if any of the mounting bolts were missing/broken, a completely new steering gear assembly was to be installed. We purchased the car in the summer of 2017, with 55,500 miles on it. At just over 60,000 miles, the power steering failed while driving. This is my 16 year old daughters car, and all these mechanical issues have occurred when she is behind the wheel. The intermittent stalling, and most recently the complete loss of power steering thankfully did not result in accident or injury. Fortunately she was driving in a 30 mph zone when the steering failed, and was able to allow the car to pull to the side of the road. She would have not been physically able to turn the vehicle, under other circumstances. Our local Ford dealer advised that Ford would not assist in the steering repair. A subsequent follow up with Ford directly verified same. Both of these issues should be subject to a safety recall.

18 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2017

Car will stall when it is it is low rpm. It is more likely to stall after I have fueled up my car from it being low on calls. I can see the car shuddering and then drop the rpm very low. It has died when I have been in traffic before when I'm stopped at a light. It has died when I was leaving for work and backing out of my driveway. I noticed the issue of the car shuddering when I'm driving at low rpm and even when I'm coasting down a hill. I have went to the dealership several times for this issue and they have never eliminated the problem. It may have got a little better where it doesn't die as much but I definitely have to pay close attention when I just get fuel otherwise I'm afraid my call will stall at a stoplight. I called Ford's customer service today to see if there was anything related to my issue as a recall but there was not. I asked the lady if she has heard of this issue and she said that it's a fairly common problem she hears about the Fusion and other Ford models "shuddering". Most recently I have had my battery replaced. Previously I had warranty work done in 2016 for the fuel pressure sensor to be replaced that cost $100 deducdible. Neither of these repairs made any significant difference. I also experience that at low rpm there is hesitation when accelerating. There was other people I found online that have these issues and they suggested the "electronic throttle body" fixed their issue and they were covered by a extended warranty customer satisfaction program, but apparently my VIN is not in that list.

19 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2017

Recently purchased vehicle, vehicle recently started stalling while idling. As of 07/30/17, it has done it twice. I will start the vehicle, it will then begin to shudder a bit and stall out. Seems to do it more when it is cold. Luckily, on both occasions, I was in a parking lot and not on the road. This could be a serious safety issue if it stalls while driving or stalls at a light.

The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,289.

21 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2017

My 2013 Fusion less than 5 years old and has just over 72 thousand miles on it, which places it just outside of warranty. In September 2016, my car gave me an overheating warning as soon as I cranked it. I paid 300 to have the temperature sender assembly replaced. On April 1, I was driving home from a trip. I stopped at a red light and my engine temperature suddenly spiked, I lost all power to the engine and barely was able to get it into a parking lot. They looked at it and concluded that it had overheated and a cracked cylinder head, and they told me they could repair the cylinder, but it would probably be safer to replace the engine. I inquired about the recall and Ford paying for the repair and they directed me to open a case with Ford. After arguing with Ford for several days, Ford informed me that the only thing the recall would cover is the installation of a coolant sensor. Basically all they would offer is to install a sensor that will give me a heads up the next time my engine is going to blow up finally after 6 weeks I picked the car up on may 17. I started to drive home, made it about an hour, when my engine temperature started climbing and warning me about overheating again. I pulled over immediately, checked the coolant, let it cool off and tried again and it did the same thing within a few minutes. I had it towed to another Ford dealership and they told me there was another problem with the coolant bypass valve and it had to be replaced. Cost me another $300. So to summarize this lengthy story: I have a car that is less than 5 years old with a ruined engine. Ford admits the car is defective and tends to overheat and ruin the engine, yet they refuse to accept responsibility and pay for the repairs. I waited for six weeks and paid over 7400 for new engine that didn't even last an hour before overheating again and costing me another 300.

22 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part for the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. While driving, the contact smelled a burning odor throughout the vehicle and saw smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and the engine caught fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. No police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that no compression was on the number two cylinder and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that they would notify counsel and get back to the contact, but they did not offer further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

23 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

On April 1, 2017, I was stopped at a red light on a highway on my way home from a trip when my engine temperature spiked and I lost all power to the engine. I was barely able to get it to the median. I had just heard about the recall that day coincidentally, so I had it towed to a Ford dealership on Monday. They determined that it was a cracked engine head due to overheating. The mechanic seemed unaware of the recall when I inquired, but they agreed to check into it. That was two and a half weeks ago. I was advised to contact Ford and have been dealing with the regional customer service rep. Ever since. Ford has basically offered no information until today. Today I was informed via e-mail that the recall is for the "coolant sensor" and "this does not cover the repair to replace the cylinder heads. " I have read the recall and it states very clearly that the danger of the recall is overheating and a cracked cylinder head. I do not have an official estimate yet, but I have been advised it will cost me thousands to fix. This is a car that is less than five years old and 72000 miles, just out of warranty. I change the oil and check the fluids regularly. It was apparently burning antifreeze at fast enough to cause it to overheat and crack a cylinder head. Mine did not catch on fire, but based on my understanding of the recall this kind of damage could have caused a fire and many have caught fire. Based on my reading of the recall issued by Ford, the only solution they are offering is a coolant sensor. Rather than address the real issue of overheating and the resulting damages, Ford is apparently trying to get away with merely installing a sensor that will give you a heads up before your engine explodes. Surely this is unacceptable in a modern vehicle.

26 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2017

After turning on the ignition and starting to drive away, the car engine will sputter, acts like its starving for fuel, starts bucking and then shuts off. No codes or warning lights are displayed. This has happened in parking lots and on street parking. It is very dangerous and I almost got in an accident when attempting to pull into traffic from a parallel parking stall on the street. Pressing on the accelerator has no affect. After restarting the engine, it runs fine until I turn off the car. Then it is random if it will occur at the next engine start. After owning the car for 3. 5 years, this just started happening last week. It has happened 8 times over the last 7 days. At first is only happened 1 a day, but recently it is happening multiple times a day.

29 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2016

Beginning approximately 4 months ago, from a cold start in either a reverse or forward direction, my car would slowly lose power and within 30 seconds, stall. The electronics still function, however the car must be put into park, turned off, then restarted. After researching, I discovered that my car did fit the requirements for the "recall" given to 2013 Fusions based on its assembly plant and assembly date. I visited my dealer, however they were unable to help because there "was no code thrown. " indeed, no wrench or engine warning light was given at the time of my car stalling. It has now happened nearly a dozen times - the most recent occurring on Dec 10, 2016 - and I expect it to keep happening unless the electronic throttle body is fixed. Because the dealer believes that I do not fit within the requirements however, I am unable to have this issue taken care of.

30 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2016

My 2013 Fusion stalls out in park, reverse. When I start driving it cuts off at 20-30 mph. Worried about causing an accident. Took my car to get diagnose on 9/30/16. It was a fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail and replaced it. Didn't clear code. Took it back on 11/10/16 to get re-diagnosed. Found that it was a purge valve that they replaced for free. 11/11/16 at 5:30pm I arrive home from work. 1 hr later my wife was going somewhere and it stalled out. Thank god it happened in our apartment complex. This issues is dagerous when driving on the the road. I'm taking it back 11/12/2016. Lets see whats they tell my. . Ford, please help us with this issue. This is the only car I have. . .

31 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Takata recall. Car died three times in the past 2 months while I was driving it. The first 2 times in less than one minute of starting car and putting into gear. The third time was after I had been driving for some time and pulled away from bank teller window. Brought to dealer in January for another recall and they couldn't find any indication of problem in history for stalling problem (that was after first time it died). Am taking car in for car latch recall and will have them check again regarding the second and third incidents.

34 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2014

2013 Ford Fusion se 2. 0lt ecoboost engine - bought March 2014 about 33,000 miles. My issues started around the end of may 2014. 1. When coming to an idle my car always acts like it is going to stall. It idles really hard and the rpms always jump real low. There are never any warning lights/messages that appear. 2. Extremely poor gas mileage - this is a 4 cylinder and an ecoboost that should be getting a hell of a lot better gas mileage - city and highway! my 2012 Fusion v6 had wayyyy better mpg. I have read in forums about both of these 2 issues and found related problems. Ford wanted $180. 00 just to 'look' at my driveability. Just to plug my car computer into their scanner. There are no recalls on this for my specific car even though I am finding a lot of the same issues as some recalls on other model Fusions. I should not have to pay for this to be fixed, this is fault of Ford. 3. My a/c system stopped blowing cold air at 36,816 miles!!! still no warnings active and Ford wants $120. 00 just to 'look' at it - and charge me more to fix any issues it has. While reading some forums I have noticed several recalls/same issues for this and some say that the a/c pipe is faulty and leaks. But my specific car does not have those recalls so Ford will not fix issue. And again, I should not have to pay for faulty parts! disgusted!!!!! please correct the recalls so I can drive safely.

The current mileage was 12,999.
