1 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2021

Engine failure due to coolant leaking into engine oil after recall performed, [recall # 17v209000] had the car in for many service problems related to misfire on cylinder one. Had injectors cleaned, replaced spark plugs, replaced the coil pack, had the coolant system flushed and pressurized for leaks, only 42000 miles,.

2 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

Purchased a 2013 Ford Fusion in 2020 and kept the car for about 4 months. During the 4th month of owning the car I noticed that I would fill up the coolant reservoir and a couple days later I would have to fill it up again. I checked under the car for leaks and there weren't any leaks that I could find. I checked forums for any other people having the same problem and I found out that there is an internal engine coolant leak for Ford Fusions with the 1. 6l ecoboost models. That's the exact model I have. I called Ford gave them my VIN number and they told me there weren't any recalls for my vehicle at the time. So I had a mechanic check out my coolant lines and they told me that there was a huge leak in my coolant system, although they couldn't tell me where. I had the vehicle pressure tested and the leak was internal. Drove the car back home that day and once I reached my house smoke started to come inside the cabin. I immediately parked the vehicle and popped the hood and noticed there was a fire under my hood. Called the fire department they arrived after about 3 minutes and by that time the vehicle was done for. I could've lost my life that day. I'm happy that I didnt. Ford previously recalled certain 2013 and 2014 Ford vehicles equipped with the 1. 6l engine for a similar issue under recall campaigns 12v551 and 17v209. Unfortunately I'm now out of $12,000 and I no longer have a vehicle because of this mechanical failure.

3 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2021

Continued problems with engine coolant. A couple of years ago I had a couple of recalls for the engine coolant sensor faulting and leaving my family. Stranded in subzero temperatures. The car was serviced for these and now is leaking coolant I to the engine through a faulty head gasket issue filling my oil with coolant and making the car overheat. The car has 106,000 miles on it and is serviced regularly.

4 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

I purchased the car 4 months ago and discovered shortly after it was leaking coolant from a hose in the heating system. This external coolant leak was a 500$ repair. Earlier this week, my check engine light came on for the first time when I was in traffic on my way home from work. I was driving about 20 mph and heard a dull thud (I was told later this was probably my engine popping). I immediately took the car to a shop to have the code read (p0302). I scheduled an appointment at my local Ford dealership at 7 am the next morning (14 hours after the light came on). They diagnosed the car and called me to tell me there was an internal coolant leak in the engine and the only way to fix the car was a total engine replacement. They quoted me at 8500$ (more than the amount I purchased the car for) and told me multiple times there was nothing else I could do to fix it. I found out after my family checked out the car that the leak had caused a cracked head gasket and the spark plugs in the cylinder were contaminated from the coolant. The Ford ecoboost 1. 6l engine has an open recall for causing engine fires because of an internal coolant leak, but they refused to acknowledge that the design flaw in the engine that cause coolant leaks led to the irreparable damage to my engine. They told me I could drive the car off the lot since I was not completing the repair there, but I couldn't make it out of the parking lot and had to have the car towed to my house. The car was shaking and the check engine light was flashing, which it had not been when I brought the car in. The engine is not safe and even if I were to fix it the design flaw would likely cause the problem to reoccur. Ford needs to acknowledge the engine is unsafe and pay to replace it with a newer engine that does not have the same flaws.

5 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

There was a recall on my model in 2018 which they say was fixed. But it is causing un going issues. Now the (ctv)? module needs replacing. Bottom line, cylinder head sensor keeps shooting a code that the coolant is to low, while it is not. You start the car and the needle shoots to hot. Warning signal goes of and engine starts to shake plus fans kick on. Engine light plus overheating comes on. Leaks have been fixed but the module was a recall and they verbally no longer grant it freely fixed, because of time overlaps.

Coolant breach, leaking into #4 cylinder low milage on car 22,657, engine needs to be replaced.

12 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2020

Check engine light came on and car gave me warning that coolant system was overheating, then car started to auto slow down until a complete stop on a public roadway. Check engine code came back for cylinder misfire. Had spark plugs and coil changed by mechanic, as well as refilled engine coolant. Next day, turn car on and white smoke billows out of exhaust and engine shudders, then dies, leading me to believe there is a coolant leak in the cylinders. Took it back to mechanic and they said they could not find an exterior coolant leak after running tests. Next day, coolant level drops below minimum after being full the day before. After doing research, there is likely an interior engine coolant leak.

13 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2020

Coolant leak from freeze out plug causing car to overheat first engine light flashed causing a p0304 code then smelled coolant and started overheating.

14 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2020

For about a month now my coolant has been dropping in the reservoir about every 2 weeks. I had the oil changed today and asked the dealership to check and see what the problem is. They informed me it was leaking around the thermostat housing. This is in direct relation to the recalls but of course they say mine is not part of the recall. I wonder what Ford will think if it catches fire and I'm injured and my children sue them! please help I'm on disability and can't afford the $450 the dealer wants to fix it.

15 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2020

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the check engine warning indicator started to flash, then the vehicle started to shake violently and then it stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer Ford Lincoln queens service, 92-12 173nd st, jamaica, jamaica, NY 11435, they determined that the engine had to be replaced, because the coolant was leaking in to the engine and cracked the block. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle was repaired by the same dealer Ford Lincoln queens service, 92-12 173nd st, jamaica, jamaica, NY 11435, back in may 2019 under NHTSA recall number: 17v209000 ( engine and engine cooling ) the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000. Bp.

16 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2019

This vehicle was brought to brondes Ford in maumee ohio several times to report the coolant level dropping. Dealer could never find anything wrong. On 5/9/17 vehicle went in for an oil change and dealer marked coolant level was fine, did not add any. Brought vehicle back on 5/13/17 reporting coolant low. Back in 11/6/17 for low coolant. Dealer found nothing wrong and topped off. 2/9/18 - dealer performs recall 17s09 vehicle brought back again as coolant is dropping. - dealer finds small leak in o-ring and repairs. 11/24/19 - I open the hood to find the coolant bottle completely empty with no warning message, check engine light, nothing. This was the whole purpose of this recall to prevent overheating and fires which is shown as completely ineffective on this vehicle. I request intervention by NHTSA as the fix propsed by this recall is shown as not working.

17 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the message center displayed " add engine coolant " . The vehicle was driven to a destination, after 8 hours parked, the vehicle was started and the message " engine temperature, overheated ". The contact stopped on the side of the road and checked the reservois and added coolant. The vehicle was leaking coolant. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000. Bp.

18 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2019

Was having a slow coolant leak into the engine. Was told by Ford that it was potentially a cracked cylinder head. Took it to a mechanic only to find out that it was not a cracked cylinder head but a warped engine blocked after only 130k miles and 6 years. Car has been in shop for nearly two weeks while we try to decide what we need to do.

19 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2019

2013 Ford Fusion began leaking coolant & eventually overheated! owner had to repair hoses & spark plugs.

20 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

On 10/10/2019, my temperature gauged spiked up to high and instantly dropped back down to normal while stopped at a red light, then the car disabled itself, leaving me stranded. Replaced the temp. Sensor and added coolant and was able to restart the car. On 10/30/2019 it happened again while driving on city streets, leaving me stranded for a second time, so I replaced the temp. Sensor again thinking it was defective. On 10/12/2019, it happened two more times, also while driving on city streets, and with doing more research, I found it stemmed from a manufacturing recall #17s09/ NHTSA recall #17v209, (coolant leaks/engine over heating). On 10/14/2019, I called advantage Ford in stuart, FL and was told to bring my car in on 10/23/2019 to have the recalls(which I was never notified of) taken care of. On 10/16/2019, my car started blowing white smoke out of the exhaust and when I called back advantage Ford, they told me to bring it in right away. Since my car was no longer drive-able, I had to have it towed to the dealer. When I spoke to the technician at Ford, he said that they would take care of the recall and replace a hose that was leaking, but that the damage was already done to the engine, probably bad rings (because the coolant leaked causing the engine to overheat gunking up the oil in the engine), and that this was our fault and that I should trade the car in while it still runs! he wasn't sure of what the problem was, nor did he suggest any type of repairs, just that this was our problem. On 10/22/2019, I called Ford customer service and reported the problem. I was given a case # and was told that I would be contacted by a regional customer service manager. On 10/28/2019, we were told by the manager that their Ford mechanics would have to breakdown the engine to see exactly what caused the sludge and if they are at fault or if this is our problem.

21 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2019

Engine cylinder head overheats and leaks oil recall driving down the interstate this morning in rush hour traffic my car started shuttering. I was able to get to the side of the road before my dashboard went crazy stating my car overheated. When I got towed to the mechanic they discovered my coolant was leaking and it busted one of my cylinders which put a hole in my engine. When I called Ford they stated my VIN wasn't included in the recall. I have the exact make, model and engine mentioned in the recall and exactly what they warned would happen, happened, but I was told it was a coincidence. I had no warning whatsoever. My temperature gauge was fine and there hasn't been anything leaking. This is a serious problem. I do not believe in coincidences this big.

22 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the service engine required warning light illuminated. 23 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking coolant. While driving various speeds, the coolant warning indicator displayed "level low engine overheated". The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road, powered off the engine, and waited for a while. The contact added coolant to the engine and the vehicle was able to drive normally. The vehicle was taken to sheehy Ford Lincoln of gaithersburg (located at 901 n frederick Ave, gaithersburg, MD 20879, (301) 358-4443), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 42,000.

24 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2019

The engine get overheat and stop working. The coolant level keep decreasing along the driving, but didn't find any leaking. It should be related to Ford recall 17s09.

25 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2018

Ford Fusion recall - coolant leaks / engine overheating and fires I bought a 2013 Ford Fusion with 36,000 miles on it less than three months ago. This vehicle was included in the 2017 recall due to coolant leaks and engine overheating issues which have resulted in engine fires. The recall did not provide any repairs or replacements to the coolant system but instead installed a sensor intended to notify the driver when overheating was occurring and to shut down the car engine before a fire ignited. My car did get this sensor before I bought it and a pressure test was performed, however a coolant leak is still present and the vehicle did overheat to the point of engine and computer shut down. There is currently no long-term fix suggested by Ford or the dealership for this issue. The existing recall does not protect the driver or car occupants of imminent danger from engine fires or from property damage.

26 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2018

Coolant leakage and overheating happening to my car , when I turn on the air condition it goes directly into overheating status so I stop using my air condition . I work alot threw out the week and just yesterday I had to walk 6 miles to walmart.

27 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2018

Coolant recall 17v209000- states if the Ford engine could crack and leak oil if overheated due to the engine being low in coolant. I took my car in to get repaired and 3 weeks later my car had these exact symptoms. Ford is claiming the responsibility is not theirs. The crack in the cylinder head led to the engine becoming worn. So now a new engine is needed in a car 5 years old.

28 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2018

Engine cylinder head recall: the recall came out early in 2017 stating that the cylinder head may crack causing an oil leak that may result in a fire in the engine compartment. The recommendation was to keep coolant level properly maintained which was done, however, the coolant kept disappearing and going inside the engine for about a year. The engine failed Jan 20, 2018 before a resolution by Ford could be found. I was driving down the road and it just stopped running and would not start again. I was able to coast off the side of the road. The car was towed to a Ford dealership in fayette, al where it has remained for two months. I have been given the runaround by Ford motor company until today when they told me they could not meet my expectations and referred me back to the local dealer. The local dealer offered to sell me a used engine for $4000 which I refused to purchase. My expectation is for Ford motor company to pay for investigation of the problem with my car which they have failed to do. I want them to repair my engine if this recall had anything to do with the failure, which I believe it has. Coolant is not supposed to leak into the engine and I believe the damage caused by this event has caused the failure. They have left me without a vehicle, which I still owe almost $10,000 on, and refuse to do anything at all.

29 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2017

I bought my car August 6th,2016 with roughly 40000 miles from auto nation Ford dealer . Never had any problems until September 2017 . I was driving down the road and my car gave me a message that my engine was running hot and to stop immediately. I did and opened the hood and realized there was a coolant leak and it was smoking . I had it towed to the dealer to fix and they had to replace the heater hose and said they ran test to make sure their was no more leaks and everything looked good. I had to pay out of pocket because they said my manufacture nor extended would cover it. I didn't have any more problems again until December 29th 2017 (approximately 2 1/2 months later). I was riding down the road again and my car gave me the same message and I immediately pulled over again but this time it was on fire. I called my insurance company immediately and the fire department had to put out my car. I barely had time to pull over from the time my car alerted me to when it caught fire. The next business day when I spoke to my adjuster she told me about the recall for the engine fires due to coolant leaks on my car that was issued in Mar 2017 . I was never notified or told and I was even at the dealership with the previous incident just a few months prior. I checked my coolant regular and all my other fluids. It never gave me any messages either time until I had to pull over immediately and the 2nd time it was on fire already before the car even notified me. Now my insurance says they won't help me because my comprehensive coverage don't cover mechanical and after the adjuster went and looked at my vehicle, she claims that it's Fords responsibility due to the recall. I have rental through Ford but now they said they have to wait for an inspector to look at my car before they can issue me a rental and it could be a while.

30 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2017

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that there was a coolant leak and the engine kept overheating. The dealer fred beans Ford of newtown 10 n sycamore st, newtown, PA 18940, (215) 968-3806 installed a sensor and replaced the coolant reservoir tank however the remedy failed to provide a permanent solution. The vehicle was stalling, the coolant warning light was still flashing and the contact was uncertain if the vehicle may be repaired. Several independent mechanics diagnosed the vehicle and had not been able to provide a specific diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, indicated that there was no recall for the vehicle and to take the vehicle back to the dealer for servicing which was unreasonable for the contact. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

31 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2017

I was driving my car an it wasn't hot or anything I went into the store came out started my car drove for 5 secs an my car shuts off says coolant overheated an doesn't start back up never had that problem before I look it up an there's a recall for it I call tri county Ford in mabank an they come get it an say it's just a hose leak. Never once was my check engine light on but after I got it back a week later it comes on an I find out it's a coolant bypass value an a little wrench tool pops up an no one knows what that means an the Ford place says it's not under recall anymore an ill have to pay to fix it. O also my thing where you put water was just where it needed to be also but there was coolant on my engine Ford never told me why so im guessing from the hose leak.

32 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

Engine overheated as I was driving down the street, about 30 miles per hour. Engine shuts off, I pulled over safely. Had to be towed to the dealership. Second time in 2 years. Engine coolant receptacle cracks and fluid leaks out. Had it repaired ince last year. Encountered the sane issue again, now my fan needs to be replaced. Dealer says 1300 in repairs. But Ford recalled my model for this same reason. But now that it has turned into more damage, I an stuck with finding how to pay to get my car fixed.

33 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2017

The motor overheated just as in the description of recall 17s09. Feslers automotive in fairfield, IA tried to blame it on something else even after they looked at it and said it overheated and cracked a cylinder head. I believe they have been negligent towards the actual issue and that issue was the recall. There was a coolant leak into one of the cylinder heads that froze a spark plug and cracked the cylinder head. I ended up having to buy a new motor because there was no fix for the recall.

34 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2017

My check engine light came on while I was on my way home from work. While sitting idle at a stoplight, the car warned the engine was overheating so I pulled over and shut it off for 20 minutes. The next morning when I went out to my car, I noticed a large amount of clear fluid had leaked out. On my way to the dealership, the check engine light went off and (according to the dealership) stayed off until I picked the car back up and started driving home. After running diagnostics at the dealership, it turns out that the engine bypass solenoid valve shorted out due to a faulty coolant tee on the heater core inlet. After doing some research, it seems that this was a recall on 2013 Ford Fusion se 1. 6l cars. I contacted my local Ford dealership and was told that my specific 2013 Ford Fusion se 1. 6l was not part of this recall (although it was included in three other recalls from Ford). After a simple search, I discovered that this seems to be a widespread issue with this car-regardless of the recall. Apparently other 2013 Ford Fusion owners not included in the recall are experiencing the exact same engine coolant problem. It also seems the original recall had to be reopened to include additional vehicles. Perhaps it needs to be reopened again.

35 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2016

My car was overheating and leaking coolant. The Ford dealership took my car in for recall repairs. They had it for about 1 week. However, my engine overheating light still comes on and now my engine fan sounds like a jet. It is super loud as if they altered it to keep my car from overheating and never repaired the recall issue. When the fan comes on so loud, you can hear a loud whistle through my av vents.
