40 problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 2016 Ford Fusion. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2016 Ford Fusion based on all problems reported for the 2016 Fusion.
Shift lever does not select accurate gear due to worn bushing (NHTSA 22v-413, oem 22s43): a degrading bushing attaching the shifter cable to the transmission in certain 2013-2019 Ford vehicles, including the 2016 Fusion, may detach, preventing proper gear selection and potentially causing unexpected movement. Dealers will replace the bushing and add a protective cap.
I was driving my car one day and as I was coming down the road the car jerked and picked up speed like on its on and I had to really stop abruptly to stop the car. I thought that was strange, I didn't have any warning lights or any indication that anything was going on I just thought it was weird, then like 2 days later as was driving the car would do this random jerk but again no lights on any indication anything was wrong so I went to work car seemed fine, got on the high way to go pick up my grand kid after work and when I signaled to change lanes attempted to accelerate to pass, the car just hummed and my speed started to diminish and I immediately coasted to nearest exit because I could not accelerate more than 15 mies, I coasted to a strip mall turned the car off waited til I thought the car settled for a moment and attempted to start the car and when I put the car in gear it jerked but as I tried to accelerate it just hummed and no speed overc15 . So I left the car got it towed the next day to another shop because any Ford dealerships I called to see if I could tow for diagnostic test said they had extensive waiting period like one had weeks before they could look at the car. So I had it towed to another car lot who had a good business rating to be told that it seems to look like something had came loose from the transmission. That I may have to get it replaced, this car starts right up, didn't give me any indication of a problem and doesn't even have a hundred thousand miles on it. Where did Ford drop the ball on this car? im very disappointed , I attempted to drive the car around the corner one day trying to explain to my neighbor the weird behavior of the car and the transmission piece I was told that cane loose, and the car ran fine for about 20 minutes even picking up speed and everything then the moment I got back on my block its like it got warm and then we had to push it back on the driveway it went back to not being able to accelerate. Again.
Electric power steering motor attaching bolts corrode (NHTSA 19v-632, oem 19s26): corrosion of bolts in the electric power steering system can lead to loss of power steering assist in 2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln mkz vehicles in certain states. Dealers will replace bolts and apply a sealant, or install a new steering gear.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 80 mph while driving. The vehicle started jerking and failed to exceed 60 mph. The vehicle jerked and then failed to exceed 40 mph. After refueling, the vehicle was slow to start. The contact had to pump the accelerator pedal for the vehicle to start. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who retrieved dtc: p02, p0087, p0131, p0302, and p1450. The mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle would not pass state inspection. The local dealer was contacted, who confirmed an unrepaired recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was unknown.
The left rear caliper has been replaced 3 times in the last 6 months and is currently in the shop for a 4th. This locks up for no reason and ruins the brake pad and the rotor and I have now replaced all of that 3 times as well and the brake hose line.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact veered off the roadway. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle malfunction message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 17v427000 (power train). The manufacturer was contacted and referred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was unknown.
This failure narrowly resulted in a serious accident when my vehicle applied the brakes without warning and dropped the speed to below 40 mph on the highway! I was extremely fortunate not to have been closely followed by a large semi at the time. I researched on my own and found this was a known defect: Ford recall reference #22s02 (21c24) March 2022. Includes vehicles built in hemosillo plant from oct 2013 thru 6 April 2015. My Fusion was built there on 2 April 2015 but was not included in the March 2022 recall so I was never notified. Apparently this was a known defect and on going problem since Ford issued ssm 50328 to cover various vehicles built from 2013 to 2021 (includes 2013-2017 Fusion/mkz). I was able to drive the vehicle safely on back roads to a local Ford dealer where the problem was addressed. I submitted a request for refund to Ford and advise them of this continuing safety issue that should have been addressed with a properly expanded recall. Ford denied my request and tried to avoid the ongoing safety issue claiming it was an "out of warranty" matter.
I got into an accident around may 3rd. Roughly around 11 pm to 12 am. To inform whomever is reading, none of the issues I will list have happened prior to this event. At the accident my car would not turn on, and it would not lock. As well as a piece of the car had broke off. I took my car to mike's auto body for repairs. When the person inspecting the car had reviewed what was wrong with my 2016 Ford Fusion, I was informed part of the issue was the starter. I was informed by nick a staff member of mike's auto body, that the piece was replaced. After I had picked up my car on June 6, 2023 as per the receipt from my payment. The first time the event happened was on around June 6th to June 20th (I know it happened on a rainy Tuesday or Wednesday anywhere from 7am to 8am prior to Thursday June 22nd. ) my car flashed "see manual" on my dash board. The air bag light had turned on. My car would not accelerate, the brakes functioned at this point, but when I pulled off the road and parked my car shook. When I had turned my car off, took out the keys, and turned it on again the problem was "resolved" and I was able to continue driving to work. I had called the auto shop and eventually left my car with the auto shop to be safe. The next event happened on Thursday June 22nd at 4:10 pm after I had picked it up from the auto shop when nick had informed me my car was safe and nothing was reading on the scanner. (I took a picture of the dash board to show the message) and turned my car back into the auto shop. To note, the brakes did not work during this time. The next time it happened was the first time I drove my car again after picking it up from mike's auto shop. July 1st at 12:47 pm. The same stuff happened. I recorded on video what my car was doing. My car decelerate when my foot was still on the gas, the brakes were not working, hot air out of the ac, car shaking. It happened 10+ times today (7/15/23) after leaving the dealership to fix a recall I have several videos of it.
Service advanve trac light comes on, abs light, air bag light, brake malfunction, the turn signals stop working and steering because a little tight, was on the high and this happen and delayed decrease in speed, turn signal available, almost caused major accident get of on an exit with no turn signal functions, this has to stop.
I was driving my car on the interstate at 75 mph and had the cruise control on when the wrench light came on and the car started slowing down and losing power. I pulled over and shut the car off for a few min, started driving, and it did it again. A couple of mechanics I've talked to said it could be the throttle body positron sensor or the throttle body itself. I've had the fuel pump and fuel pump modulator and relays checked. I've also had the spark plugs checked and changed and the issue was still there. The car has a mileage of 71,000. The car is still not fixed at this time.
Car has intermittent electrical issue that causes ecus to reboot often times disabling safety systems such as abs, airbags, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, power steering and power brakes. Ford dealer believes that it's a short in a wiring harness. They claim this issue has been seen in several vehicles like mine. Ford was able to reproduce the problem and recommends replacement of a wiring harness ($4k). To date, I have not had an accident, but do not feel safe driving the vehicle if the airbags and other safety systems become inoperable. Yes, all of the dashboard lights come on when this issue occurs - technician states that the whole computer system gets taken down. That's very uncomfortable when you are traveling at highway speed and no longer have safety system. Steering and braking do get impacted but are not inoperable. I can provide videos of the dashboard when these events occur.
When driving my 2016 Ford Fusion, the transmission not in park light comes on without any other warnings. This is unsafe because it stops accelerating. Most times I'm on the freeway. This is a safety issue that has been happening for about 2 years now. The dealerships tell me that they can't fix it because the safety issue does not occur when they have the vehicle and cant read any codes. One Ford dealership sold me a radiator and told me that was the issue. A different Ford dealership told me that it has nothing to do with the radiator. No one seems to be able to repair this safety problem that I am experiencing. Another Ford dealership told me that there is a recall but my VIN number does not fall in that recall. How can I get my vehicle associated with the recall and have it repaired. I feel so unsafe driving especially in construction zones where I am unable to pull over. Once I coast across traffic to pull off the road I stop the engine. It starts right back up. This is unsafe. No vehicle should stop accelerating while driving. The service lady at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle stopped returning my phone calls. How can this safety issue be rectified as soon as possible. I feel very unsafe driving this vehicle.
The car shuts off while driving under the speed of 20 mph. It has happened 6 times in the last 2 months. The worse part was it happened on the interstate in the rain and I had to pull over quickly on to the ramp while an 18 wheeler was coming my way.
The contact owned a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, when the steering column locked up, causing the contact to drive off the road, the vehicle the independently increased in speed to 40 mph, and crashed into a ditch airborne. The vehicle landed upside down. During the failure, the steering wheel was unable to be maneuvered. There were no warning lights and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact suffered injuries to the head, left arm was cut deeply and elbow, elbow joint was injured, and a cut on the face. The contact was taken to the ambulance. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised that there was a recall on the steering. The vehicle was recalled for the steering column. A police report was filed. The failure mileage was 146,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuttered, loss motive power and stalled. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle operated as designed. The shift to park message displayed on the instrument panel during the failure. Ken garff west valley Ford (4091 w 3500 s, west valley city, ut 84120) was contacted and informed the contact that the repair for a new electronic throttle body, as concluded by the contact after extensive research; was not covered under recall or warranty. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
At random times when the car is departing on city streets or highway, the car would stop shifting out of second gear. I would manually shift it to neutral then back to drive and it would drive normal through the first gear then shift to second gear and stay in second gear until I stop and repeat the process, first gear then second gear then stuck and repeat. No one has been able to find out what's wrong with my car's drivetrain system. Multiple certified mechanics have informed me to contact Ford for recalls on this car's powertrain system however Ford says they have no recalls on this model. This seems like a manufacturing defect and is a very dangerous problem since it happens unexpectedly at random time.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly decelerated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. An orange wrench icon and the words "check manual" illuminated on the instrument panel. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. The vehicle was driven to bartow Ford (2800 us-98, bartow, FL 33830) where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle control system failed and needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was no longer included in technical service bulletin number: 16b32 or NHTSA 10109085 (vehicle speed control) because they expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
I was driving down the highway and my engine lost power. My car would not accelerate. I could not even go the speed limit. The dealer had to replace the throttle body. Ford was changing these out through their own recall but that ended years ago. This problem is very popular over the Ford models and could wind up killing somebody when the engine cuts out. Ford is not standing behind the safety of their customers and I feel the NHTSA needs to step in and make this a mandatory recall. Someone is going to die from this and it is all across all their makes.
Car put in park but stayed in drive. I had to put car parking brake on to keep car from rolling.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. On several occasions, while driving with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle would then independently accelerate. The contact stated that the vehicle was sluggish on most occasions. Additionally, there was an abnormal nosing coming from the front driver's side wheel well. The vehicle was taken to town & country Ford (located at 5401 e independence blvd, charlotte, nc 28212, (704) 557-0596) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or retrieve fault codes. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
Vehicle was in motion, 12 mph. Husband made a left turn from almost a stopping position. He proceeded about one foot and the engine stopped after it sputtered extremely and made a loud noise. There was absolutely no response when he hit the gas pedal. The car would not move. It was extremely dangerous as it happened in the middle of traffic. The check engine light illuminated with a wrench and message to check the manual. I took the car to jerry's Ford alexandria and they said the throttle body had to be replaced and the computer reprogrammed. Cost was $610. They discounted the price to $510 and threw in a free oil change and detailing which was awesome. I have read online that this has happened to other 2016 Ford Fusions and wondered why Ford has not issued a recall for this dangerous issue or at least inform owners to beware. . Car has about 46,800 miles on it as I bought it June 2015.
Takata recall. Car loses acceleration when going uphill. Speed drops down to 20 mph. Put new fuel pump in and the problem cannot be figured out. When trying to start the car it takes several attempts especially after getting gas.
Takata recall- I had on previous Ford Fusion. Tires, stability, wipers, ripped into I just bought two new tires August 2018. The car is under 9,000. Miles! the red one previous was 10,ooo, miles when I had to turn in lease, and pressured by a salesman. Plus they put on extra packages, and when I called, I said take it off, etc. . . They did not! I had trouble turning car at times(both) they have run off the road because of tires and other things. It was highway driving. Always.
Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration and wrench icon illuminated. The contact coasted to the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to the dealer packey webb Ford 1815 ogden avenue, downers grove, IL 60515, they determined that the throttle body had failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000. Bp.
Car stopped accelerating in the middle of the highway, yellow wrench light came on and airbag light came on. The car started shaking and came to a complete stop. I barely made it to safety on the highway full of cars. I pulled over and turned it off because it wouldn't drive. I turned it back on and it drove fine. I have researched this and realized this has been happening to thousands of people who own 2016 Fusions and yet there is no recall. I am terrified of driving it. It seems to be the throttle body that needs complete replacement but at expense of the owner despite thousands of cases. How can this be? please advise.
When traveling on the freeway at 60mph and I take my foot off the accelerator the transmission does not down shift or slow down. A strange sound can be heard until I press on the brakes. The rear passenger seat belt does not retract sometimes. . There is a strange sound when turning the steering wheel.
Similar to issues others were having with the throttle control placing the car into "limp" mode, it would appear that this is what happened yesterday as my wife was driving the car on a major highway near pittsburgh (376 west, near the split of 79 north/south) with me in the passenger seat, and three kids under the age of 9 in the back seat. Without warning, the car seemingly shut off or "throttled down" and began to shimmy and shake, losing most of its functionality. We were forced to pull to the side of the road, which we barely did, with vehicles speeding past at 4 lane highway speeds. The following day, I contacted Ford and explained the situation but was not told anything about this systemic issue. It was not until I discovered the issue on my own, that I learned about the fact that Ford has not issued a recall for the electronic throttle body control but instead a "customer satisfaction program" which was not communicated to me, to the best of my knowledge, until after we nearly lost our lives and I had to have the car towed. This issue is going to get someone killed (if it has not already happened) and it would appear that Ford fails to appreciate it. My vehicle has just over 18,000 miles on it. I own 2 Ford vehicles but won't be buying another.
While driving today, I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. The vehicle began to vibrate abnormally, and then the power went out. I began to smell smoke, and I almost hit the vehicle in front of me because I couldn't control my car! once I finally came to a stop, I was able to restart it and pull over to a safer area-- but the smoke remained. I believe the throttle body is malfunctioning, which is unacceptable on an almost-new car.
I was pulling into a parking space near power and phone lines when the car suddenly surged forward. I was able to step harder on the brake pedal and the car stopped after traveling about 2 feet. The Ford dealer checked codes, etc. And found nothing wrong. I had previously received a recall from Ford and the electronic throttle body had been replaced about a month before this incident. I feel that electromagnetic interference has caused this incident because there is no shielding for the gas pedal. I have about 8400 miles on this vehicle.
My car barely picks up speeds I have to put my foot all the way down for it to catch speed. My radio only works on one station other station gives out lots of stacked.
When I was leasing this vehicle the power steering system assault light started coming on then piwer steering stopped working and I had no power steering at all. My transmission also failed. Ford dealer refused to fix it because I was over the lease mileage. I was sent home with the car without power steering and in need of transmission replacement. The mechanic told me to pay the 3. 000 to fix it because I was risking my life. The manager said there was nothing he could do under the lease warranty. But it was a lease and I did not have the money for repairs. I later discovered 5 recalls for the car. I was only notified of two, steering and transmission. This was in the past few months when I no longer have the car. . Accidents occurred before the steering completely failed. Both involved the car moving without accelerating. It was on a town street at a light both times. I was behind another car both times as well. My car insurance has gone up because of these accidents and I have severe back pain from driving all those months with no power steering. But I had no choice as a single mother working many different locations requiring daily travel. Also, I have to look back for the correct date of when I brought the car for service and was refused repairs by the Ford dealership mechanic department where I leased it, even though the issues were car defects. Therefore, I entered January of 2017, since it was either during 2016 or beginning of 2017 that these issues surfaced. Also, one of these accidents where the car moved without accelerating did mot involve a police report, only the exchange of insurance information. The car speed is not saving in the box below. I was coming to a stop in one accident and was stopped completely during another. This is my best recall of the information.
After coming to a stop on our highway ramp. I had intended to make a right turn. Before I took my foot off the brake my car accelerated causing my back tires to lock and screech. I was unable to turn the steering wheel toward the right so that I could remain on the two lane road. My car pulled to the left and I slammed into the medium. My car came to a complete stop but was still running. I turned off the medium and continued home. Shortly after I heard thumping noise followed by louder thumping and my entire dash board lit except for the check engine light and the wrench. I pulled my car to the side to find I had two blown front tires, my bumper was broken and my driver side back tire went flat waiting on a tow. All my years driving I have never experienced an unintentional acceleration of a vehicle and pray that myself or granddaughter never have to again.
I have a 2016 Ford Fusion that I purchased in February of this year. It has lost power four times in the last three days that I have driven it, twice in rush hour traffic heading to and from dallas for work. A wrench will show up on the dashboard, a message saying "see manual" will pop up, and the vehicle fails to accelerate. I cannot pull the vehicle over out of the way of oncoming traffic because it will not accelerate at all. I've taken the car into the dealership twice. The first time was this past Monday. I was told that the vehicle needed a software update and a new throttle body and that the car would be fine afterwards. On my way home yesterday, during rush hour traffic on a busy four lane highway work no shoulder to pull off on because of constriction, my vehicle lost power again. I was able to turn the car off and on and make it to the dealership. They replaced another part and once again told me that the issue was fixed. My issue is not with the dealership, it is with Ford motor company. I have contacted them twice regarding my vehicle and I have yet to receive a callback. I purchased this vehicle brand new. The issue is a known issue to Ford, but there has yet to be a recall. Do I have to die in my vehicle on 35e in an accident before someone does something about this? I'm afraid to put my children in this vehicle as it puts my family's and my life in imminent and substantial danger. Please help me with this I issue. I can't continue to drive this vehicle.
While driving my car started shaking violently leaving me with no control of my acceleration. I had my children in the car with me and had to get through three lanes of traffic in efforts to pull over. Very scary situation.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated and stalled. The wrench warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle shook violently. The contact had to coast the vehicle to the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body assembly failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,900.
