Warnings Problems of Ford Fusion

My 2015 Ford Fusion back over prevention camera system, is no longer working. I only get the black screen with error message "camera is unavailable. Contact dealership". Which is creating a safety issue, while the vehicle is backing up. Reference recall number 25sa9 as many other Ford products have the same issue. Many 2015 Ford models are covered under this recall. However, my Fusion is not, because the recall only states 2016. My camera was troubleshot by a certified mechanic and was deemed a faulty camera by testing it with a different camera, and the system started working properly again.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the apim (accessory protocol interface module) appears to have failed. The vehicle's infotainment/play screen is completely blank and unresponsive. This module controls key systems including climate control, navigation, hands-free calling, and the backup camera. The component is available for inspection if needed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? this failure compromises several safety-critical functions. I am unable to adjust climate settings, use gps navigation, make hands-free emergency calls, or see through the backup camera. These features are essential for safe driving, especially in adverse weather or while reversing. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not yet confirmed by a dealer, but the issue has been consistent. I have attempted both soft and hard resets, and verified the fuses are good. All symptoms point to an apim failure. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no formal inspection has been done by the manufacturer, police, or insurance. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? there were no warning lamps or messages. The issue started intermittently about two months ago. Resets worked temporarily, but the screen is now completely unresponsive.

My front camera is often unavailable. I took it in multiple times and they couldn’t find an issue. Recently my back up camera has been acting up. It is unavailable most of the time, other times the screen is black, sometimes it’ll work and then cut out. There is a recall on other Ford vehicles for this issue. I looked up if it needs a software update and it doesn’t. We’ve checked the camera and wiring harness and they’re both intact and in good condition.

When placing the car in reverse the rear backup camera does not show image and will display a black screen or a message the camera is not working and to contact a dealership. Camera worked correctly until Jan 2025. Randomly, the rear backup sensors, while camera shows black screen, will not alert the driver to being object in its path. At other times when the screen is black, the sensor will alert the driver. If you get the "camera not working" message, the rear backup sensors will alert the driver to objects in its path.

In November 2024 my back up camera failed. The dealership diagnosed a failed camera and installed a new one for $ 800. In July 2025 the camera failed again. It was under warranty but the dealer diagnosed the issue as a low power failure and replaced the battery for $ 600. This week the back up camera is beginning to intermittently fail with a message "see dealership for repair". I feel I may have spent $ 1400 for unnecessary repairs as the issue still exists. My Ford Fusion hybrid is not on the list of Fords covered under the current recall.

Transmission is constantly jerking when engine light is on. Driver assist back up reports to return to dealership and the front just doesn't work at all.

The entire media display gets stuck off or will freeze up, when I place the vehicle in reverse the rear camera comes on but parking assist, the rear sensors and cross traffic sensors won't work. Once I place the car in drive the display will either stay all blue or shut completely off. I cannot adjust the climate control, use gps, or use the media. I have to shut the car off and then after about 10 minutes there is a bunch of clicking noise under the dash and after it stops clicking I can restart the car, the display will sometimes begin to work and if it dossent then I have to shut off the car again and go through the motions again. It has started to be more and more frequently, at first it was maybe once a week and now it is happening at every start.

Park break engages on its on when the engine is turned off.

Backup camera works when car started up, but will go out after the vehicle has been on for serval minutes and will not work. Know recall on other later models of Ford 2020-2023 backup cameras.

Our camera cuts in and out. We took it to Ford initially to run a diagnostic but they killed our battery doing the test and never finished. Now the camera is showing things opposite. . Our mailbox is on our right backing out but camea shows left. Same when a car pulled to our right but camera showed left and caused us a scare. Completely unreliable. It cuts off/on constantly when using it to back out and sometimes doesn't beep.

Electrical system failure on multiple components. Upon start entertainment system (radio, nav, etc. ) is inoperable, a/c does not function, windows will not roll down. Has happened on multiple occasions.

Since around 2020 / 2021 the vehicle rear-view camera has been malfunctioning. The screen can go blank or show an error message intermittently while in use, often moments after the vehicle starts to move, making continued immediate movement dangerous for the driver or pedistrians. The video feed sometimes works, sometimes shows an error message to contact the dealer. Sometimes the feed flashes back and forth intermittently working and showing a black sreen, every few seconds. Sometimes the video feed is flipped horizontally, showing the usually left side of the video on the right and vice-a-versa. This particular failure caused vertigo and was extremely hard to ignore, making it difficult to continue parking the car. I contacted the dealership and was told an approximate $1300 was required to fix the intermittent camera functioning, when it had worked for 8 years and was still intermittently working - it would seem a software problem introduced by an firmware update, if I was to assess the situation. No police report was filed, confirming. I called my local dealership more recently and asked about fixing it under relation to one of the many Ford truck related backup camera recalls and somehow my camera / car are not part of the recall, so I was instructed to contact the NHTSA to have my complaint added. I suspect because it is a lower volume car, the exact model is liikey not to show many vehciles with this problem. The corporate Ford customer service rep was very nice, but unable to grant permission for my car to be fixed by a dealer at reduced cost. Please add this to the Ford recalls of late or open a new relating recall. Thank you for your time.

I was driving on expressway with my kids. When the steering wheel lock up mid driving and I couldnt control the wheel very dangerous. Especially happening on the expressway with my children aboard. Worst could have happen but thank god I was able to Dodge an car an slow down to I stop an turn on hazzer lights and break. I couldnt turn the wheel at all it was very scary experience. It was displaying messages pwer steering failure and one other message. I tried turning car off and turning it back on but that didnt work. I had to get the car towed to Ford dealership in union city, GA. Where they found out it was the pwersteering system that failed costing $2600 in repairs that I didnt have and I needed my car for work. So I had to come up with the money to fix an repair that shouldnt have happen. My kids and I could have been killed. This happen June 2020 I have called several times sudmitted documents of repairs and reciepts. Still no world on adding it to the recall list to save others knowning this has been an major issue in these cars as well as I was told that you all would reimburse me for repairs. Still no word yet and its been a year. Someone please help.
