10 Steering problem

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2018

My 2010 Ford fusion hubrid recently indicated a power steering assist fault on the dash board. The vehicle was stationary, parked in the drive way. Steering is difficult.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

My car had "power steering assist fault" come up on the dashboard after I started it in a parking lot and the lack of power steering made the car unable to drive safely. This has happened several times, and clears after turning off and restarting the car. . However, the message will not go away now even after restarting the car. Ford, was able to recreate the failure and thru driving the car & diagnostics. I was then called and notified that I needed a steering rack at the tune of $2500. During the phone call, I was told that Ford has been known to assist with the expense, especially with having such low mileage and asked if I wanted them to submit a request. Of course, I would, however, I was informed today, 2 Jan. 19, that Ford rejected my request for assistance and said would not assist with anything. I am now afraid to drive the car, for fear of this happening again without warning. I have very few miles on my car, approx 38,000 miles. There have been many complaints for this very issue. Other years have been recalled however, not yet for the 2010 models. This is very much a safety issue. How can Ford not recall 2010's when it is a documented issue? I don't feel like I can drive the car knowing that there is a safety issue or sell it with a clear conscious. Can not afford $2500. And, it's rumored that Ford will not make the fusion after this year. How many more complaints must be received by NHTSA before a recall. Please do something! thank you,.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2018

When my wife was driving the power steering went out and warning lights went on. Those warning lights were: service power steering now and service advancetrac. My wife could not drive the car and needed to get it towed to a local shop.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2018

Luckily I was driving up to a stop sign at 20 miles per hour when the power steering assist locked up 44th and quaker lubbock texas.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2018

Steering assist quit and I couldn't steer anymore almost wrecked.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2018

Steering went out on car while driving, luckily was with a few blocks of home and able to pull over safely, going less than 20 mph. Steering wheel would not turn either direction. Car had to be towed to service at dealership where they reported the steering rack needed to be replaced for about $2500. At local mechanic, they said could replace steering rack for $1200 but it would have to be taken to a dealer to have the computer flashed. Went with cheaper mechanic, towed to dealership to complete computer work, and computer would not recognize part. Went back to original mechanic, they again replaced rack thinking it was a defective part (at no charge), back to dealership, same problem - computer still not recognizing new part. Now for all the new diagnostics at dealership, cost has been about $400 so far. Still do not have part that works and car still at dealership not working and not recognizing part. Running out of money to keep feeding into this car.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2018

Steering suddenly stopped working altogether without warning. Alert displayed was "service power steering now". There was no way to even turn the steering wheel under manual power. This happened while the vehicle was stopped in a parking space for about 5 minutes and I noticed it upon backing out.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2018

My daughters car electric steering assist motor locked up while driving on a major road, causing the car which was turning to almost go off the road into on coming traffic. The which was being driven by her boy friend was heading into accident, however, the young man was able to force the steering back working by breaking gear on the motor assist. If my daughter had been driving, she and her children would have been seriously injured or even killed. This defect has been know on this model for some time. What is it going take to get this fixed, another death of a family.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2018

A $300 dollar cost at a Ford dealership just to reset a module of the steering wheel is unjustified. Seems like it would be a manufacture's defect. My 18 year old daughter driving this car when all of a sudden the steering wheel just won't function to make a turn is a grave concern to a parent not to mention a health hazard to any driver. She was pulling out of a parking space and when she intended to turn the wheel to straighten out, the wheel became hard to turn. She could only move it forward back into the space. I feel it merits a recall now and not wait for a fatal case. . .

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Ford fusion se. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the service power steering now and the electronic control system icon illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. An unknown mechanic friend diagnosed the vehicle as the transmission friction element g performance and the invalid data received from abs control module codes were found. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,058. Bp.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

The vehicle was being driven by my elderly mother for emissions, as I am currently deployed overseas. The service engine light came on and she lost all electric power-assisted steering (epas). Luckily my mother was able to steer the vehicle off the road and avoid colliding with anything but being 66 if she lost control anywhere else it could of been fatal. The vehicle was diagnosed and determined to have the same fault as listed in the recall for the 2011 Ford fusion model.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

Many Ford fusions have a recall on the steering rack. 2010 does not. Mine is in shop for repair. Also, the transfer case went out. Costly repairs. I am not able to drive due to the steering. Already fixed the transfer case and sway bar.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2018

Power steering assist fault occurred without warning while driving on city streets. I was still able to drive but required a lot of force. 94,000 miles. Initially, restarting the car fixed the problem, but this only helped a few times.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While driving approximately 35 mph, the "service power steering soon" message suddenly displayed before the power steering malfunctioned. The steering wheel became very difficult to turn. After turning the vehicle off and restarting it, the "service power steering now" message displayed and the driver was unable to turn the steering wheel at all. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (lebanon Ford, 770 columbus Ave, lebanon, ohio 45036) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear rack was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 164,000.

25 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2017

While driving the car, we suddenly got the message 'service power steering now' and 'service advancetrac. ' luckily, no accident occurred, but it was extremely difficult to steer the vehicle out of traffic and to safety.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2017

My daughter was driving home from store going 25 miles hour and the power steering suddenly went out. We have checked to see if this car is on recall list and it is not but it says online it has the same parts that were recalled on the 2011 fusion. This is very dangerous if it happened on freeway. This needs to be addressed.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2017

While driving at low speed on city street (~25 mph), power steering stopped working and error lights appeared for both power steering and advancetrac. Took to mechanic could not diagnose the source of the problem, although power steering worked again after they adjusted air pressure in tires and cleared out codes. I remain concerned after reading about recalls of later year fusion models for what sounds like the same issue.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2017

Steering went out while driving and now am unable to steer vehicle.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2017

I got a slow flat while driving my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, which engaged the "low tire pressure" warning on the in-dash message center. Soon after that notification appeared the "service power steering now" (in red text, so definitely not good) and "service advancetrac" (in yellow) messages followed. I pulled into a gas station to check the tire, and upon restarting the car realized I now had no power steering. After changing the tire the messages remained and power steering was still gone. I drove the hobbled car (luckily in a straight line) to the nearby huntersville Ford dealership, where it sits in the overnight lot now awaiting the bad news. How is such a dangerous issue, already identified within the same product line and generation, not being dealt with equally across the lineup?.

30 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2017

A tire got low and then our power steering fluid went out. The car was parked. I noticed the tire was going flat so I went to start it, but the steering was so stiff that I couldn't even turn out of the parking spot.

31 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2017

While driving this vehicle, it became very difficult to steer the car. We were told the power steer needs to be fixed. There was no warning sign, it just happened all of a sudden. It could have caused a wreck because my 19 year old was driving at the time. It is especially difficult to steer while pressing the brakes. Very unsafe.

32 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2017

When I started the engine I got a power steering assist fault warning on my dash and had no power steering. Had it towed to my mechanic, he told wiring had been chewed by a rodent. He repaired the wiring but it still wouldn't work. Had it towed to dealer and steering unit was replaced about $2000. Three weeks later same warning when I went to start it. Towed to dealer again, told faulty part, would be replaced under warranty, no charge. Went down to look at car and asked about pro-actively using rodent tape before installing new part as a precaution to prevent any future problems. Was shown that there wasn't any visible damage. Called me the next day to tell me there was rodent damage to wiring harness that they hadn't seen, that they had cut open the wiring cover and found the wires chewed. My question as to how they knew to cut open the shroud to find the chewed wires in the shroud was answered that there was a "pin-hole" "tooth-hole" in the shroud, but 3 of the 4 wires were separated. . They could try to fix wiring for about $400. 00. Spoke to service manager and he agreed to repair it and absorb the $400, as it was about 3 hours labor and would only "cost" the dealer about $60. 00. Next day he called to say they repaired the wiring but still didn't work, so they would have to replace the part and it would cost me another $1,997. 80. This was Friday and I said I'd call him on Monday. I think it is absurd that a consumer is forced into a $2000 repair for a wire, and believe there is a faulty design which would render a $2000 part useless when a wire is cut.

33 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2017

Car told me to pull over safely. Everything locked up. The steering wheel got real tight and would not turn. I took it to a Ford dealership to have fixed and they said the power steering box went out. The car was in motion. I was on my way to work.

34 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

Intermittently the power steering will go out and make it very difficult to steer the vehicle. It happens at low and high speeds, most often when the wheel has been rotated to turn the vehicle.

35 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2017

In coincidence with a flat front tire being fixed, the dash display began toggling between alerts 'service power steering now' and 'service advancetrac. ' the power steering is not working, and the 'ready to drive' indicator on this hybrid is not on. A few minutes of internet searching turned up many similar reports, including Ford having recalled 2011-13 vehicles for the same issue, but not 2010 models with same system. (?) many of the reported incidents happened at driving speed, so maybe they're waiting for more crashes/injuries/fatalities. . . Pretty sad if so.
