While driving to work, an error message was displayed indicating that the power steering needed to be serviced "now". After I parked the car, and returned to it several hours later, after starting it, the same error displayed and I noted that the vehicle had no power steering at all. Thankfully I was not driving at the time, on the interstate which is my normal route. I was able to get the car to a certified mechanic who advised that the issue was related to the epas motor mounted on the rack. I contacted Ford to inquire about a recall for this particular year model as I noted that there was a recall for the same make/model for 2011 and 2012 year models. The part number for replacement was identical to the 2011 and 2012 models that are under recall. The error message and sudden loss of power steering issue was identical as described. It's apparent to me that this is related to the same defect yet Ford refused to acknowledge it as such. This is a serious safety issue that Ford needs to address and include the 2010 model year in the same recall.
While driving approximately 35 mph on a city street the advance trac warning light came on followed by messages to "service advancetrac" and "service power steering now". I was able to drive home safely without any real difficulty, but when I attempted to move the car the next morning the power steering was inoperable and I had to have the car towed to the dealership because I felt it would be unsafe to drive due to steering unresponsiveness. Dreading the diagnosis and cost to repair.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While driving 55 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Power steering stopped working while making a turn on the highway. Was able to avoid accident with the car beside me but was very difficult to steer the car in the direction needed. Car code came up to "service power steering immediately". Very dangerous situation if not prepared when this happens!.
For the 4th time since March 2015, service power steering now and service advance trac system. All four times this happened will driving typically 30mph on city streets. Once happened on the highway. All four times the power steering would remain engaged until car was powered off at which point the vehicle did not have power steering. The 2nd and 4th times both occurred within weeks of the repair by a dealer. An additional time the same warnings occurred with the loaner/rental vehicle provided while my own vehicle was being repaired for the problem. Last repair (10 days ago) cost $1600.
The power steering went out on my fusion while in motion . This should be a recall. Now the stop safely now light came on while in motion and this is apparently the mec.
The power steering randomly gave out while I was driving. At first a light came on the dash board that said service power steering now. Then another light saying service advance track. After I parked my car turned it off and went to turn it back on I was no longer able to easily turn my steering wheel.
Power steering is not working. Have taken to mechanic twice who cannot find anything wrong other than to reset computer. Steering works for a few days then fails again. Typically get warning light, then after vehicle is turned off, power steering no longer works. Have researched this issue, seems to be common among Ford fusions since 2010.
Power steering went out when I was leaving at store almost causing a wreck.
Our 18 year old daughter was driving the car when the power steering ceased to function. She was able to stop and call us for help. We took it to a dealer and they said the whole power steering needed to be replaced. The car had just under 100,000 miles on it.
On 10/13/16 while driving the steering wheel locked, power steering assist fault appeared on the dash and I ran into a telephone pole. My passenger and myself were injured and the car is totaled.
On multiple occasions during past 3 years, I experienced a sudden loss of power steering, which could be reinstated by pulling over, shutting off engine and restarting car. A few weeks ago, it could not be reinstated and I have had a permanently loss of steering. The isolated incidents occurred while driving, sometimes in a parking lot where I came close to hitting cars because I could barely muster the physical strength necessary to steer in tight spots, other times while driving in city streets. They appeared to occur randomly about once over few months until it finally happened permanently. So far, I have not had any accidents or injuries, although I cannot let my wife drive the car because she lacks the physical strength to overcome the loss of power steering. The car is now with the dealership where I bought it and they are charging me approximately $1,900 to replace the entire steering assembly. The specific information given below is for the last, permanent occurrence.
While making a left turn I seemed to loose control of the steering and hit the opposite curb so hard that a large chunk was torn in both passenger side tires. I was driving on a suburban street and had a left turn traffic signal. I did not know how it happened and called aaa to be towed to a station and had to purchase two new tires.
While on travel, I went to start my car and got a warning message that the power steering needed to be serviced. There was no earlier indication (noise, periodic failure, etc. ) that power steering was on the way out. Thankfully I was not driving at the time. Online research revealed a recall for nearly all later models 2011-2015, but not mine for the exact same issue.
Occasional stiff steering feel when correcting for straight tracking.
I went to drive my vehicle and it showed 2 alarms on the dash. A traction control warning and a power steering needs service. I drove the car 5 miles to church. Upon coming out of church and getting back in the vehicle, the same 2 alarms were on the dash, but the power steering changed to service now. The power steering in the car was gone. I struggled to get the car out of a parking spot and back to my home. It is now sitting in the yard. I am very concerned that if this would have occurred while driving, that I could have experienced an accident.
Steering gear malfunctioned. When taken to the service department, the service manager said there were 2648 of these parts on back order. It has been two months since this car has been sitting at the service department with no action being taken. Still waiting on the part from Ford. The part malfunctioned while driving on a city street, going straight. Warning alerts appeared on the dashboard with no initial indication of anything going wrong with the part. Drove the vehicle home 30 miles, no change in original condition of steering. When taking the car out the next day, that was the first indication that there was no power steering.
When starting the car I got an error message "service power steering now" and service advancetrac. Now I cannot turn the wheel on the car and I cannot drive it. I've seen other people have the same issue. I tired to restart the car and had the same issue. Also unplugged the battery and tired again an it still had those errors.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While driving approximately 60 mph, the warning message for service power steering and service auto trac illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer ran a diagnostic and the system reset itself. The mechanic diagnosed that the electric power assist system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
Complete loss of power steering. No accident/injury to report. Power steering did not come back when vehicle was turned off and back on. Taken to mahwah, NJ, Ford dealer who announce that gear box needs to be replaced, and they have never seen this type of failure before.
On 4/9/15 I was driving along 2-lane road and got a message on my dash re power steering problem. At the same time I noticed that power steering had gone out. I was able to pull into a parking lot, turned off vehicle, when I turned power back on, the power seemed to be ok and I continued driving. I took the car immediately to jacky jones dealership. They said they checked it out, couldn't find anything and said it must've been a "glitch. " they charged me $45. 22. I proceeded to get on I-75 and drove home. On 5/18/15, I was on a main road approaching access to I-75. Once again I got a message on the dash and the power steering went out. I pulled off road, turned off ignition and then turned it on again. It appeared to be ok. 5/25/15. Took vehicle to lenoir city Ford end left it there over weekend. Today they told me that rack unit has to be replaced at a cost of approx. $1800. They did tell me that I should not drive car. The power steering went out for them at dealership as well.
Power steering went out without warning while driving.
The power steering assistance went out on the vehicle while pulling out of my driveway. The vehicle has had no prior power steering issues and has been involved in no accidents. All routine maintenance has been performed on the vehicle.
This morning while driving to work I had a low tire pressure light pop up on my instrument panel. Seconds later it came up with power steering service now and I lost almost all ability to maneuver the vehicle. After I lost steering it said advancetrac service now. It was almost impossible to get the car to pull over to the side when I did I turned the car off for a few min and back on. After restarting the car the messages were no longer there and I had my steering back to only happen again approximately 2 miles down the road.
Just as I was pulling into a parking spot the steering gave out and a red error message popped up on the screen saying service power steering now. Luckily it was as I was parking and not someplace where I could have died.
I was making a right turn from a side street, about 100 yards from my home. As I got on road, lights went on the dash about brakes advance service and the breaks lost power. Caused me to have to use significant pressure to make brakes work. I went about 1 mile and into a parking lot. I stopped and restarted the car and things went back to normal. This could have caused an accident since it was sudden and there was a loss of control in traffic. I called dealership and they said that it may have been from car sitting for a week and that unless the problem can be repeated at the dealership, they cannot fix something that isn't broken. The car did the exact thing again turning out of my driveway on 1-5-15. Stopped and restarted car and it went back to normal. This is not safe and should be recalled. Intermittant problems can still kill.
Drove the car all day and night christmas eve with no problems. Got up around 8am christmas day pulled out of driveway went just a little way and the power steering went out and it was impossible to steer and I almost crashed. After much struggle to get the car back in the driveway a warning light came on that said service power steering.
I was driving when I got a sudden warning signal about the steering system. About 10 seconds later I lost all power-steering. I managed to turn the vehicle to the side of the road and park it. The next day it was towed to the dealership. They said I needed a complete "steering rack. " they said it would cost $2300 -- not covered. I appealed and they dropped it to about $1500 and gave me $900 assistance, but did not cover the rental car for the 2 weeks the car was out of commission. It took them 2 whole weeks to complete their ruling on the car regarding the assistance and I didn't dare give the go-ahead to fix it until I got the ruling from the regional manager.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While driving approximately 60 mph, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the power steering mechanism was faulty and needed to be replaced. No further information was available. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.
Pulling out of my driveway, the dash on the vehicle reported power steering and activetrac issues. I was able to make it to my destination safely, albeit, the warning lights on the vehicle dash remained in regards to power steering and activetrac. This morning however, the car has malfunctioned and the power steering is no longer active. Doing research, I noticed that NHTSA and a lawsuit in California is attempting to address this issue with Ford motor company. What are my options?.
The power steering went out on the car twice. Took the car to the dealer after the 2nd event and they reset the service code to clear the problem. They could not find a mechanical problem with the car. The first occurrence of the problem the car was taken to a local auto repair facility and they fixed the problem by replacing the car battery. This solved the problem for about two weeks and then it reoccured. A google search found this problem occurs frequently on the Ford fusion and most people have expressed concern about how dangerous this is as the car is extremely difficult to steer without the power steering. In my view this is a critical design flaw.
On 9/20/2014 at approximately 5:30pm, while driving home at 45 miles per hour the service power steering and service advance trac alerts appear on the screen. The vehicle began to slow down and the steering wheel became difficult to operate. Now the vehicle starts, moves extremely slow, the steering wheel is very rigid and is difficult to handle. I can't operate my vehicle and I have an appointment to have it checked at the local Ford dealership for the 3rd time. Similar incidents took place in March 2013 and may 2013. I paid approximately $ 140 twice to repair the same problem at my local Ford dealership. This is a major hazard and could lead to major accident when driving at high speed. Yet, the repair that was provided was update of the software. And no permanent solution. When am supposed to know when to update the software?.
We can't steer the car, electric power assisted steering epas, had the computer codes reset and still did not fix my car! I have put enough money into this car, and now the "computer" is telling me that I have to replace a very expensive part that Ford is only covering for some of their [xxx] vehicles. This part is approx. $1600 not happy with Ford. . . They are getting as bad as gm owning up to their b. S. ! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Going slow on a side ride and the power steering completely cut out. Almost crashed into a parked car. Took a serious amount of effort to turn the wheel while moving and was quite dangerous trying to get it to the mechanic shop.
I came home from grocery shopping and the next day around noon when I went to turn the car on it started beeping and flashing on the dashboard saying service power steering now, needles to say the car is not safe to drive in that condition I tried but its just to hard and unsafe to do so, I went online and notice there is a lot of other drivers with the same vehicle that have the same issue even while driving thank god I wasn't please look in to these cars history thanks!.
