1 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/23/2025

I am reporting a serious safety issue with my 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid se that affects the braking system and related electronics: 1. The abs stopped functioning previously. 2. Recently, the car displayed a “brake malfunction” warning for the first time, which appears when making sharp turns. 3. The tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) stopped working some time ago. These issues are extremely dangerous. The electronic brake booster and abs module are critical for safe braking, especially in emergency situations. With the abs and brake assist compromised, the pedal can suddenly become rock hard or soft, stopping distance increases dramatically, and traction control/abs is unavailable during hard braking. I am concerned this is a systemic issue with the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid se braking system and not isolated to my vehicle. This failure could put drivers, passengers, and others on the road at serious risk. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue for potential recall action to protect the safety of drivers nationwide.

4 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/15/2025

Brake lights stay on even after turning off car. According to my research the problem is a brake pedal bumper that deteriorated. I actually found the rubber piece on the floor. Prior to finding out my brakes remained on, the red engine light turned on. I checked recalls for this problem, and there was one, but it was only valid for high humidity states. I live in California so I didn't qualify. Now, due to not knowing what the red light was about, and it being smog time, I cleared the engine light. Well, I didn't know that disqualifies my smog test because other codes were erased. Now I have a car that is battery disconnect since I can't drive it due to not smog certified. All because of a rubber brake part falling off. I?called my dealer if it was covered by recall, they said no, even though there is a recall for humid areas. I don't live in a humid area. So my case shows that it does not have to be humidity related. It's just a cheap quality part. I'm hoping this changes to include all areas. Thank you.

20 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/03/2019

Periodically when apply brake, no engagement, as if I hit a patch of ice, then the break engages.

21 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/05/2019

I had the airbag replaced because of the takata recall. The following week, I started the car and warning lights came on. Thankfully, I was in a parking lot that had some empty spaces. I applied the brakes and realized I had none. The brake went to the floor and nothing. I had to use the emergency brake to stop the car. I then steered to a parking space and applied the emergency brake to stop the car again. I had to have the car towed to the Ford place. They said it had nothing to do with the airbag repair, but I can't get over how there was no warning of the problem. The car had driven perfectly. My son could have been driving my car and does not have a lot of driving experience. We use the interstate all of the time and I keep thinking how I could have been in heavy traffic when this happened. Please note that I have researched this problem and have come across many forums where people are saying the exact same thing happened to them and they were in a Ford Fusion Hybrid! a car should not suddenly lose its brakes! the dealership says two electric modules went out in the abs system and it's $1,000 to fix them. They also said there may be a hydraulic problem but "we won't know until we replace the modules". I still can't believe I had no brakes in an instant! this should be a recall.

22 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/15/2019

While driving away from my curbside parking spot to go to work, the dashboard lights started flashing and said something along the lines of "break system failure" or "check break systems", and I was unable to brake at all. I managed to change course and pull over and let the car stop on its own. Once stopped, I turned the car off and then back on again. I tried to slowly move and then brake, at which time the brakes were successful and stopped the car. I drove the short distance back to my house and took an alternate vehicle. This is incredibly concerning considering I carry my wife and three children in it and we frequently take long road trips to see family. Had this happened on one of those trips, especially while driving long distances on freeways that tend to bottleneck, the results could have been devastating, not just for us but also others.

23 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/09/2018

According to Ford car needs hcu unit and ecu. Just had the car fully serviced and new brakes all around. Tires are new as well. Ford wants $3000 to replace the hcu and ecu and drain the brake fluid. I think I'm gonna have to scrap the car.

24 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

As I was driving into a parking lot, the brakes felt like they wouldn't work and the warning light and bell went on, but ultimately the car stopped, but I had to press brake pedal to the floor hard to stop the car. I had the car towed to midas. They said it was an electronic or computer problem and suggested I take it to a dealer. I then had it towed to saybrook Ford. They diagnosed replacing ecu and hcu, even though the car didn't demonstrate the problem to them. I found on line a technical service bulletin from Ford (TSB-09-22-11) and a brake system update specified by Ford's customer satisfaction program 10b13. When I told the Ford dealer, he stated there is no recall on the brakes. I explained to him again, but he was not interested in hearing about this. I called the national Ford office and spoke with someone who suggested I contact you. Consumer reports said if the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid was built before October 17, 2009, the dealer should perform the brake system software update. My car was built on April 22, 2009 according to Ford, but they said my car wasn't covered. I am complaining to you as my car has the exact problem stated in 10b13. Please help. Thank you. Jackie palmer.

25 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/24/2018

While driving 65mph on a back road leaving harris CO. My car started to speed up without me pressing the paddle and when I pushed the brakes I had to push it several times before it would work and slow down the car. It pretty much made us jerk forward when the brakes started to work. I have never had this happen until Wednesday oct. 24, 2018 and don't know who to contact. I had my daughter and niece in the car coming from my son football game. That was scary and I hope it don't happen again.

26 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/14/2018

Moderate speed, stepped on brake, no response. Stomped on brake for no discernible response. Dash lights came on. Had to use handbrake or emergency brake to stop. Dealer diagnosed and replaced abs unit. There was an open NHTSA investigation that described my problem exactly and blames a stuck valve in the abs controller. Apparently there was a coating that gets sticky from brake fluid. Ford should be required to pay for and fix this serious safety defect.

27 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/06/2018

While moving on a dry, asphalt, city road, approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed, but the brakes did not engage at all. The emergency brake was applied to stop vehicle. Then slowly moving forward and retesting brakes produced the same result. Then turned off ignition and restarted ignition. Then normal braking function returned. Took car to a mechanic and no corrective taken (everything tested ok). Incidentally, left front and rear tires were recently swapped. So tread wear was different between left and right tires on each axle.

28 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/08/2018

My breaks in my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid stopped working a couple seconds after starting the car (along with a beeping alert and display on dashboard to check breaks). Fortunately I was in a parking lot and going at a slow speed. I was able to pull to the side and stop. I turned the vehicle off. When turning the vehicle back on the alerts were gone and breaks worked. I had the breaks checked and was told they were fine. About a month went past, I was coming to a stop at a light on a city street and my breaks suddenly went out (along with an alert display of check breaks). Luckily no cars were in front of me so I was able to make a right turn and pull to the side until my car came to a complete stop. I turned the car off and on and breaks again worked fine and all warning lights off. With plans to take the vehicle to the Ford dealer after work I parked. After about 8 hours with the vehicle being off I returned to my car. I turned on the vehicle and the break alert was back and I had no functional breaks. This time when I continued to turn the car on and off the alert did not go away and the breaks did not return.

29 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/31/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Ford fusion se. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the service power steering now and the electronic control system icon illuminated. An unknown mechanic friend diagnosed the vehicle as the transmission friction element g performance and the invalid data received from abs control module codes were found. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,058. Bp.

30 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/27/2018

My 2011 fusion only has 61k miles. All of a sudden, couple of days ago, the break would go all the way to the floor and the car would barely stop. I had to use the parking brake to stop. Luckily, I was in a parking lot and trying to pull out of a slot when this happened. The dash had the wrench symbol and also brake system warning and service advancetrac message. I barely managed to stop and turned off the engine. And about an hour later, when I started the vehicle the warning messages went away and the vehicle behaved normally. Without taking chances, I took the vehicle to a local Ford dealership and explained clearly what happened. They ran some diagnostics and determined that the abs ecu and the abs hcu unit need to be replaced (cost $3,125). What really appalls me is that a vehicle with only 61k miles would completely lose its braking ability and put the occupants and the people on the road in serious jeopardy. Either I could have been killed/injured in a serious accident if I was on a highway or I could have easily run over a pedestrian or a cyclist on a city street. Makes me shiver thinking of these situations.

31 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/25/2018

I was driving home from work going about 35 mph on a 2 lane road and traffic in front of me suddenly braked hard so I did also. I hear the abs make a noise and then several warning lights came on and I didn't have any brakes. I swerved to the side of the road to avoid an accident. I realized that the brake was very spongy and if depressed to the floor I had minimal brakes. I turned the car off and then on and the condition had cleared and my brakes were normal.

32 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/30/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact stated that while the vehicle was operated 10 mph the brake pedal was depressed however the vehicle did not stop. Jerry's Ford alexandria located 6510 little river turnpike, alexandria, va was called however the contact was informed there were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Kh.

33 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

On numerous occasions, I have experienced a momentary loss of control of my car when braking. The car accelerates momentarily after the brakes engage and I have taken my foot off of the accelerator. This problem occurs when decelerating around a curve , driving downhill, or when decelerating over a bump or other area of raised pavement like my driveway. These instances have occurred on city streets, at speeds under 40 mph. When it occurs it feels as if the car is accelerating. I would also describe the feeling as a surge, even though the car is braking, and should be slowing. I have also described this as a feeling that the brakes slip or stop working momentarily and then re-engage. The experience is frightening, and I am concerned that the car could surge forward while I am braking and result in a collision or injuries. The car currently has 26,000 miles and I have taken the car in for service regularly. These surges recently have seemed longer in duration more recently. I have noted this concern to my Ford dealer and asked them to check the brakes for problems. The dealership has told me that they could not replicate the surge or skidding sensation. This is not a safe condition.

34 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid
