The brakes of my car went completely out. Even while in park, the car would move. It was towed to local dealership where we were told the brake booster needed to be replaced. Luckily, when this happened, I was going at a very slow rate of speed on a city street and was able to use my emergency brake to avoid an accident.

When I had to brake, the car did not respond to the brake even though I had pressed hard on the brake. The result was that I hit a car in front of me. Since it was not high speed traffic, my injury was trauma to my foot. The concern was that there was plenty of time to stop, not an emergency stop. I was on a surface street where speed was 35-40 miles per hour. All air bags were deployed. The car was towed and declared a total loss by my insurance company. As a result, unable to do any other investigation. I do not have.

The brakes suddenly became ineffective and required a lot of pressure to bring the car to a stop. The braking light system came on when this happened. When the car was turned off on again it seemed to reset itself. I tried to get the brake software updated by frontier Ford in santa clara and they would not do it without charging me. They said it was out of warranty and it was not covered. This is despite the fact that this problem has been covered in the past and there have been many complaints about it.

Tl takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact received notification of an unknown manufacturer recall regarding the air bags. Robinson brothers Ford (225-293-8900, 11455 airline hwy, baton rouge, la 70816) indicated that the part had been unavailable since January. The dealer also indicated that there was no option of a loaner vehicle due to a limited supply. In addition, when applying the brake pedal, it traveled to the floorboard. The dealer and the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was not included in any brake system recalls. The dealer diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

We were driving in the freeway the car went from 80 to zero it would not go. It stalled in the fast lane almost causing a chain reaction. The vechile has been fixed over 7 times. The dealership cannot figure out what's wrong. Many people online have had the same problems some people have died from accidents. This is very unsafe . Ford says they have recalled some vechiles but not all. They even suggested because it was older. My mother has a 2017 hybrid and is experiencing the same thing as me. The car is not safe at all! if someone doesnt make the fix it many people could be hurt.
The abs brake system cut out completely the evening of 11/29/17. The dashboard lit up with warning lights and brake pedal was not functioning. I was traveling 10-15 mph and thankfully was able to pull over using the parking brake. I was able to turn off and restart the car. The brake system then functioned normally. I carefully drove home and took the car in for service the next morning. The dealership says I have to replace the control module and solenoid, with an estimate of $2,000-3,000. Hopefully, that will fix the problem long-term. If the incident had happened on the highway, it could have been fatal.
When a door is opened while the car is stationary but in gear or the brakes are applied while on an incline and the vehicle stops on an incline, the parking brake engages but the dashboard light does not illuminate. When the parking brake is on, the brake pedal must be applied and the emergency brake electronic switch pressed to disengage. The parking brake. The indicator light not illuminating initially caused confusion and worry that something was wrong with the vehicle until I was able to troubleshoot and reproduce the issue at will.
This has happened several times at freeway speeds on freeways. This issue occurs when using adaptive cruise control if the vehicle encounters a panic stop situation and determines it is unable to autonomously stop in time. When the collision warning activates and the driver uses the brakes, the adaptive cruise control disengages the autonomous braking and braking is reduced until the brake pedal travels a significant amount. This increases the stopping distance and may cause an accident. The behavior of the adaptive cruise control should be changed so that a driver applying the brakes disengages adaptive cruise control acceleration (if active) but does not disengage adaptive cruise control braking (if active). I had a 2005 Jaguar with adaptive cruise control and it did not exhibit this behavior.
Brakes stopped working while driving on a city street. Extreme pressure on the pedal was required to slow the car.
I was driving my Ford Fusion Hybrid today on the interstate and had a complete engine failure while driving. I was driving, then a noticed popped on my dashboard stating to stop safely now. I pressed the gas pettle and the ev mode kicked on, propelling my vehicle speed to over 85 miles per hour. I was extremely nervous because the Fords electric vehicle engines are limited to 85 mph in pure ev mode. I was able to come to the shoulder of the interstate. I turned the vehicle off, waited a few seconds and restarted the vehicle. All seemed to be ok, as soon as I pushed the gas pettle to get back on the highway the information dashboard was alarming me to stop safely now. I did not have any check engine lights come on. I then revved the engine to see if I would experience anything, the engine finally came on, then revved and I felt that even though I was in park if my foot would have been off of the break pettle my vehicle would have moved forward. I turned the vehicle off as soon as I felt this the engine was constantly revving until I turned the key to the off switch. I then had the vehicle towed to the dealership. I was driving at 76 mph on the highway and complete failure occurred.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. When attempting to apply the brakes, the vehicle failed to stop unless the brake pedal was depressed aggressively to the floorboard. The contact took the vehicle to the sutton Ford dealer where the brake booster was replaced. The contact stated that the failure recurred twice and the dealer reassembled the new brake booster until the brakes functioned properly. The failure recurred again and the contact relocated some time afterwards. The contact took the vehicle to the earnhard Ford dealer who also replaced the brake booster, brake harness, and computer module. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure in reference to the first occurrence and assisted with the repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the recurring failures. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
I was just driving along on a city street going about 40 mph, and all of a sudden all the dashboard lights lit up, and I couldn't break very easily. I was in the middle of traffic, and I was worried someone was going to hit me, or I wasn't going to be able to break if someone cut me off. My car had been so reliable until that moment. My car didn't break the way it always did. It took a lot more pressure to break than normal, and the breaking was very delayed. I had a few very close calls, before I could pull over. It was scary! the dealership had to replace my abs module and my hydraulic control unit, which was very expensive. I know the NHTSA is looking into many complaints of the same issue for 2010 Ford fusions. If other vehicles are having the same issue, this should be a recall!.
While coming to a stop at a stop light the regenerative brakes suddenly let up and the car was not stopping correctly. I applied full force to the brakes and the car did slow but not before hitting the car in front of me. The vehicle collision warning did not come on because I was already breaking.
Today, 21 February 2017 - 6:50pm, on our way home approaching crowley road in burleson, texas, the brake system started warning there was a problem with the brakes. We stopped the car in the middle of traffic because the braking became unstable and were almost rear ended. We turned the vehicle off, waited about 2 minutes and turned it back on. We continued at a slow pace until we arrived home and the brake system was still displaying an error. The emergency brake would not set either. I decided to run a vehicle safety report. When I place the vehicle in run mode I noticed that the brake error disappeared and I had to wait approximately 1 minute to run the vehicle health report. The report ran without errors. The brake system went back to normal. I'm afraid that this may cause an accident that may lead to serious injury. My wife and I were fortunate we did not get rear ended in this occurence.
Our 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid has had three potentially dangerous brake malfunctions. Each time, the brake pedal feels as if it has gone down to the floor. The first two incidents one in Feb. 2015, and one in Dec. 2016 -- were very similar. Both times we were driving slowly in a parking lot, but when the driver tried to stop, lights on the dash lit up, the brake pedal felt as if it went to the floor, and the brakes did not engage normally. Both times, we took the car to the dealership and were told that computer codes indicated a faulty brake booster. So far, we've had the brake booster replaced twice. After the second brake booster was installed, the car worked fine for two days. Then, we were driving slowly in our neighborhood, and, when my husband pressed the brake pedal, it felt as if it went to the floor again. This time there was no indication from lights on the dash. The car did not stop until after we had gone through a stop sign. We had the car towed back to the dealership. This time, they re-bled the brakes and then replaced the hcu. The dealership told us that the brakes are now repaired. But one of the troubling things about this problem is that the car will drive well for a period of time. Then, for no apparent reason, the brake pedal will seem to go to the floor and the brakes won't respond normally. After our second malfunction, my husband tried turning off the ignition and then re-starting the car, and the brakes seemed to function again, too. There are reports about a computer glitch on Ford Fusion Hybrids built before October 2009. . Read more...
This is the third time our car will be going to the dealership for a serious brake issue. The first time it occurred was in September of 2015. The vehicle was in motion on a residential street when the car brakes stopped functioning as usual. The driver had to slam on the brakes to get the car to stop. The check brake and service lights came on. The brakes no longer functioned properly. The dealer was unable to replicate the issue. It happened again in may of 2016 when the car started in the driveway. An independent mechanic was able to replicate the problem, which was printed out and taken to the Ford dealership. The dealership was able to isolate the problem this time and fix it. The car was functional again. Today, the issue happened yet again. As the car started while stationary, the car dinged and the check brake and system lights came on. Fearing a user error, the driver restarted the car and it seemed fine. As the driver drove down the residential block, the brakes became unresponsive and the system lights came back on. The driver had to press very hard on the brakes to avoid running a stop sign and into oncoming traffic on a neighboring street. The car was towed to the dealer.
All lights on dash such as abs, traction control, wrench come on. Have no breaks. Have to push petal to the floor and stay hard on it. After a few days to a week you get in the car and its like it never happened. This has happen 10+ times in 6 months.
I was driving to work, which does not require for me to take the highway, and at a four-way stop I tried to stop my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid car by using the brake pedal and it did not stop the car at all, but its pump-action was still there. Luckily there were no cars at the four-way stop. If there were cars there, I could have gotten into a car accident, even worse if I was on the highway. When the brake issue occurred, the following two system error codes appeared on my dashboard: 1. ) "(!) brake check brake system" and (2) "service advancetrac". At the same time that these two system error codes appeared, there were five warning lights that appeared: 1. ) advancetrac/traction control off light (aka orange-yellow car w/ tire marks off) 2. ) advancetrac/traction control (aka orange-yellow car w/ tire marks symbol) 3. ) brake system warning light (aka red !(p) brake) 4. ) anti-lock brake system (aka "abs" symbol) warning light 5. ) on the upper left-hand corner to the left of the system error code "(!) brake check brake system" a little (!) brake symbol appeared. I have a picture of all of these system error codes and lights. So, then I used the emergency brake handle stick to stop the car and that helped only to slow the car down by 20%, but not enough to stop the car. I left the emergency brake on and did not use the accelerator pedal to slow down the car. The car slowed down to a slow stop after 1-2 minutes after driving over some speed bumps driving at 30-35 mph. When it stopped, I restarted the car to see if that would fix the issue and it did not. So I pressed the accelerator pedal very lightly without using the emergency brake and got to a speed of less than 10 mph to get to work because I was almost there. When I slowly drifted into my work's parking lot, I immediately used the emergency brake again to get the car to stop.
While driving on a busy street (with 2 small children) we lost all power steering, on a busy street causing unsafe driving conditions. The service advancetrac (avs) and service power steering errors came on as this happened.
On numerous occasions, I have experienced a momentary loss of control of my car when braking. This problem occurs when decelerating around a curve (left or right), driving downhill, or when decelerating over a bump or other area of raised pavement. These instances have occurred on city streets, at speeds under 40 mph. When it occurs it feels as if the car is skidding, even on dry pavement. I would also describe the feeling as a surge, even though the car is braking, and should be slowing. I have also described this as a feeling that the brakes slip or stop working momentarily and then re-engage. The experience is frightening, and I am concerned that the car could surge forward while I am braking and result in a collision or injuries. I purchased the car new in 2013, and have driven the car fewer than 20,000 miles. I have taken the car in for service regularly. These surges recently have seemed longer in duration more recently. I have noted this concern to my Ford dealer twice in the last 12-15 months, and asked them to check the brakes for problems. Each time, the dealership has told me that they could not replicate the surge or skidding sensation. Most recently, the service representative explained that I was probably noticing the gasoline engine kick back in after the car was in battery/electric drive. This explanation does not square with my experience. I can determine when the car shifts from battery to engine operation, and that is not the cause of these braking events. I read the complaints of a few other fusion 2013 hybrid owners with the braking system, and I wanted to add that this problem is occurring in other vehicles. This is not a safe condition. I will again be taking my car in for service, and asking for Ford to investigate this problem.

Car lurches forward when braking as if the regenerative braking shuts off momentarily and turns back on. Happens when going over some bumps and during turns. It is most noticeable when making left turns in a turn around in a separated highway with a median, where you need to slow down quickly, making a left turn and braking at the same time, so less than maybe 30 mph. It is frightening when it happens, and I'm afraid I will run into someone in front of me. I've taken it to the dealer Feb 4, 2016. The dealer could not reproduce. I don't believe they put much time into finding it as the mileage in and out are the same. The dealership did a pcm update but that did not fix the problem. I read a complaint from another owner and it describes this problem which prompted me to file my own complaint. This is a daily occurrence. It has been going on for at least a year. Does not seem to be getting worse.
When trying to start the car from park all warning lights illuminated, car would not turn over. Let car reset, and able to turn it over. Ford self system check via dash cluster will show brake and hybrid electric charging system problems but will reset itself after next key cycle. Not able to find codes for problem. Owned car approx 8 months, experienced problem 4 times all within 1 month.

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The vehicle was repaired under Fords customer satisfaction that was related to NHTSA action number: pe14030 (steering). The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the brake system warning, advanced tac and abs warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was driven home. The contact powered the vehicle off and back on, however, when the vehicle was placed in reverse as the contact depressed the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floor and failed to stop the vehicle. The vehicle continued in reverse into oncoming traffic and nearly caused a crash. The contact powered the vehicle off and back on. The brake pedal returned to normal. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic, however, the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed that the brake drum was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,800. Sw.
We own a 2013 Fusion Hybrid and have experienced a very scary feeling as the vehicle accelerates for few seconds before it comes to a stop, after applying the break. For that period of time from putting on the breaks to the vehicle stopping, it feels like we have lost control over the car. We have been observing this at least twice a week on an average. Left the vehicle with the dealer for a week last year, and they claim they could not observe the same thing after driving for miles. It is hard to know in what scenario this thing occurs, but is definitely a scary experience. My husband got into an accident a month ago where two cars in front of him got involved. He was at a good distance and he hit breaks, but next thing he knows is the air bags are blown and his fusion had a good amount of damage in the front. He does not know what happened in that moment, but it makes me think and hope that it was not the same scenario where the vehicle accelerated and he lost control over it. It is unfortunate for me to say this, but I work for Ford through one of the vendor companies and still can't help with this situation. We did what we could by talking to the customer service and the dealer, but could not get any answers. I am hoping that more people who are facing this issue will write here and they would investigate this issue. It is a sad experience, and have to live with this scary thought and hoping no one gets hurt.
When traveling down a hill at about 30 mph, the dash brake warning began to flash and the brake pedal lost all resistance and totally failed. The vehicle could not be stopped with the brake pedal. The emergency brake was used to stop the vehicle before reaching a busy intersection. The driver was also able to turn the vehicle onto a side street. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. The dealer replaced the "abs module due to no communication".
Was on highway driving 60 mph when various brake warning started flashing on dashboard. Warning said I needed to stop immediately. I slowed down but brakes were not responsive. I managed to find an uphill exit and got the car to stop safely. I turned the car off, restarted it, and the problem disappeared. I have owned this car since Feb. 2010 and have never had this problem before. The car has about 80,000 miles on it.
Intermittent sudden loss of braking power, with system going into "fail safe" mode, "service advancetrac", "wrench", and other warning lights coming on, and pedal going to the floor. Primarily on initial starting of the car, or a few moments after the car was put into motion. Though also observed at higher speeds. Not related to steering or road conditions. Problem seemed to self-correct after turning car off and then on again, would disappear for 3 to 12 months, then suddenly reappear without warning. Too intermittent for confident diagnosis. Nearly caused an accident on several occasions.
Beginning about January 2015, and occurring a total of about six times so far, my wife's 2013 Fusion Hybrid (currently with 25,500 miles) experienced what feels like a power surge. (I experienced this once in this vehicle; the remainder when my wife was driving. ) it is possible that this is related to the regenerative braking system at least in part, as I have seen others describe it as a feeling of hitting an ice patch. The general conditions would include: a) foot on brake; b) decelerating; c) presumably in ev mode [though not necessarily]; d) beginning a left turn [but we believe this is incidental]; e) warm engine; f) less than 30 mph. On October 1, 2015, a new condition caused the feeling of unintended acceleration, as my wife was on a side street near our home when she was approaching a stop sign and felt the power surge, which she states was many times worse than any other instance of this event that she ever experienced. Conditions this time were the same as above but moving straight and less than 25 mph. We took the vehicle to the local Ford dealership the evening of the last incident. Of course they found no codes and no evidence of anything wrong. I also contacted the Ford customer relationship center while it was in the shop to document that we had this problem. They seemed helpful however, unless Ford motor company and their engineering community acknowledge a problem and do something to address it, it will forever be a ghost in the machine, with the blame and doubt falling on the vehicle owners, not unlike Toyota's well documented, fatal and shameful unintended acceleration cases. I am concerned about our safety while driving the vehicle. I hope that no one gets hurt or killed while this problem exists and urge Ford motor company to get to the root of the issue that myself and other owners are fearfully experiencing.
Vehicle breaks stopped working and went straight to the floor. Also loss of steering. Since both the brakes and steering are electronic I believe there was a electronic failer in the car.
This car is the second Fusion Hybrid I have. The 2015 and 2016 hybrid titanium had the same issues. I changed one for the other in hope the problem would be gone. Almost everytime I drive in low speeds, circa 15mph up to 30mph on unleveled pavement with setts the following lights turn advance trac, abs, hill assistant control. Whilst those lights are on, none of those functions works. As it happened in 2015 and still happens in my 2016. I've complaint to Ford, but they never gave me a solution. I believe it is software problems in abs module. But no up to date calibration files have resolved this issue. It happens frequently, so I will input the first time it happened with the older car (2015). I know that NHTSA have been investigating a similar issue with 2009 to 2011 fusions. But I have no idea about the closure of those cases neither whether there is any other investigation going on. I live in brazil, but here, the government and Ford do not care about customers as USA cares. So I hope that an investigation in USA could oblige Ford of brazil make the repairs to fusions sold here as well. I will input an address of relatives who live in san francisco. My phone will begin with +553.

I was rounding a corner at approximately 10 mph, pulling out from the street where I live, and two trouble codes popped (1) "brake! check brake system"; and (2) "service advancetrac". The car immediately became incredibly difficult to steer and the brakes provided little (if any) stopping power (I am unsure if it was jamming on the brakes that provided extremely minimal stopping power or just the inertia of the car slowing over approximately 30-50 feet). The dealership ultimately provided excellent service replacing the "asb module", but I feel that it is unsafe for a car's brakes and power steering to fail suddenly, even at low speeds, and unexpected that a 4 year old car with less than 40,000 miles would have such a failure. I live near a park. If someone had decided to suddenly cross the street with a stroller, a kid had run into the street after a ball, or someone else had darted in front of the car, I would have been unable to make the necessary adjustments to avoid an auto on person crash.
Brake system completely malfunctioned. I was exiting the freeway off ramp and all of a sudden I had no brakes. I was not able to stop. I had to pull the emergency brake in order to avoid crashing. The brakes completely went out. There was no warning at all. I literally almost died.
In a shopping plaza went to stop at a stop sign and brakes became spongy and car was very difficult to stop where normally expected. When finally stopped it seemed to want to lurch ahead dashboard had a red " brake service" warning light and then a number a number of yellow warnings appeared. Happened again at another stop sign on my way home. Drove to the nearest dealer where car is serviced and they pulled a code c1012 memory continuous code. They could not recreate the problem and released the car back to me. In Sep 2015 car had software updated after a " tool" kept appearing. After you turned off car they brakes seemed to work ok. I'm concerned if this happens on freeway.
I was making a right turn from a side street, about 100 yards from my home. As I got on road, lights went on the dash about brakes advance service and the breaks lost power. Caused me to have to use significant pressure to make brakes work. I went about 1 mile and into a parking lot. I stopped and restarted the car and things went back to normal. This could have caused an accident since it was sudden and there was a loss of control in traffic. I called dealership and they said that it may have been from car sitting for a week and that unless the problem can be repeated at the dealership, they cannot fix something that isn't broken. The car did the exact thing again turning out of my driveway on 1-5-15. Stopped and restarted car and it went back to normal. This is not safe and should be recalled. Intermittant problems can still kill.
While braking using light to medium pressure (and, thus, while the car is using regenerative braking), if I hit a pothole or bump just right, the car will surge forward as if the accelerator was pushed. (and, of course it wasn't. ) the problem is relatively intermittent, but that doesn't mean it is nonexistent. Quite the opposite; it can be recreated as long as the conditions are correct (as described above). Even when you recreate the exact conditions, it is still intermittent (but, again, that doesn't mean nonexistent). Ford has looked at the problem repeatedly and deemed it "unable to recreate. " this is a falsehood; the problem was recreated once with a dealer driving the car. Also, Ford gave me a data recorder unit and, using that, I was able to recreate the problem while the recorder ran. When they retrieved the data, Ford claimed the car "performed as expected. " Ford refused to explain whether that meant the car did not surge or whether it appeared to surge, but the surge appeared to be called for. Ford refused to release the raw "flight recorder" data to me. Ford refuses to further address this problem. Out-of-control surging is a dangerous and serious problem and this problem remains unresolved. I have document every step of the way as I have attempted to resolve this. I attach below a letter I wrote a year ago that both details what I had been through and the problem itself. I would be happy to provide much more. The date I put below is only an approximation. I'm not sure exactly when it started, but it has been going on for years.
