36 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

2011 Mustang gt, manual transmision grinds shifting into second gear. It is real bad when cold and gets better as it warms up.

37 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

I was unable to engage 2nd or 3rd gear while in heavy traffic and the shifter grinded while going into 4th gear. The lever was able to be moved back into 2nd and 3rd after but would occasionally grind just as it did for 4th gear. This has happened on more than a few occasions and Ford has as of yet been unwilling to properly address the issue. This feels like a safety risk for the simple fact that the car has issues doing what you tell it to do. If I can't shift into a gear in an emergency maneuver I may be unable to prevent an accident or worse because I'm unable to move my car I will cause an accident. Something must be done about this very dangerous behavior that I and many others are experiencing. The dealer has tried to help me but as they put it Ford has tied their hands. They have changed my transmission oil to a lighter weight to no effect. The car has been to the dealer 4 times for this issue with no resolution. The service manager has told me that as my car stands now, there is little he can do until Ford says otherwise. These issues persist hot or cold but are very noticeable in colder weather. Be warned!.

38 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2011

Vehicle transmission refuses to go in to reverse at times. Also grinds everytime while shifting in to 2nd gear from 1st gear, mainly while turning corners but also when going in a straight line. Transmissions performance does not improve after coming to normal operating tempature. Transmission is clunky and just does not shift properly. Not smooth, not new car like.

39 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2011

The 2011 Mustang gt has shifting issues. It is a manual transmission. When shifting into 2nd and 3rd gears, it grinds when cold. After it warms up, there are delays in power in 2,3,4 and 5 gears.

40 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

6 speed manual transmission hard shifting, also pronounced vibration on deceleration at approx 2500 rpm - 2200-rpm. Dealer claims is normal.

41 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2011

Occasional and sometimes severe shudder/vibration when downshifting, particularly when going down hill, felt throughout the car, seat and shifter. When it happens, it feels like the vibration is in the drivetrain area. Seems like it always happens above 40mph. The shudder/vibration closely resembles going over rumble strips. It can be unnerving as it feels like something is going wrong with the car! I have read forums and it seems like I am not the only person that has been experiencing this problem with the 2011 Mustang. This problem can be distacting as you drive and the vibration can not be good for the drivetrain. Some or all of these 2011 muatang manual cars have a problem and Ford must address this issue now!.

42 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

I have an issue with my 2011 Mustang gt with the 6 speed manual transmission where, intermittently, I have issues with shifting into 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear where I encounter resistance and/or a metallic grinding sensation and sound, making it difficult to shift into 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear.

43 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2011

When the outside temperature is in the 30's 1st to 2nd is very hard to shift into and from 2nd to 3rd is about the same. I have taking my car to gary smith Ford and the service advisor informed me that Ford aware of the problem and that the engingeers were working on the problem. That was 30 days ago and almost 2 rear ends and still no fix some times it is just better to go from first to third to avoid trying to get it into second.

44 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2011

When the ambient temperature is cold (below 35 degrees) 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears are extremelt difficult to engage. I have a manual transmission vehicle and have almost been rear ended twice when trying to engage 2nd gear in my new 2011 Ford Mustang. I have visited keith hawthorne Ford once for service since realizing the issue. They did acknowledge that Ford is aware of the issue but basically shrugged their shoulders about it. I called back yesterday to keith hawthorne's service department and there is still no resolution. I am extremely concerned about getting hit as all lower gears are difficult to engage in cold weather. Often I have just had to skip 2nd gear all together.

45 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

I originally took my 2011 Mustang to the Ford dealer with a complaint of very difficult 1-2 and 2-3 shifting in cold weather (below 30 degrees ambient temperature). Ford was aware of the problem (special service message 21661) and said there was no recommended solution. This was not a satisfactory solution to the problem, so I took the car back on March 24th, 2011and requested that they change the transmission fluid to motorcraft full synthetic transmission fluid, just to see if it helped. It made the problem less pronounced, but did not solve it. On April 4th, 2011 the dealership told me that Ford finally came up with a recommended solution for my problem and that I should bring the car in to have the transmission fluid changed to motorcraft dual clutch transmission fluid. The dealership changed the fluid, but I can't say for sure if the problem has gone away because it only happens when the morning temperatures are below 30 degrees, which hasn't happened since the fluid was changed the second time.

46 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

I have a 2011 Mustang v6 with the mt-82 manual transmission. The shifting in it during cold weather is difficult at best and won't engage gears without a grind at worst. Now with warm weather it is not as notchy but will still occasionally not want to engage into first gear and grinds or doesn't want to go into 2nd if you are making a left hand turn while shifting. While I haven't had any close calls as of yet I feel as though some of these characteristics could potentially cause a dangerous situation to occur.

47 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

6 speed manual transmission hangs when shifting from 1st - 2nd or 2nd - 3rd under acceleration. This has happened multiple times but began to happen soon after purchase. This is especially hazardous on the interstate when trying to merge into traffic from a stopped position. Barely avoided being rear ended due to loss of forward momentum.

48 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2010

Owner of a 2011 Mustang gt with 6 spd manual transmission. Have had problems with rough shifting since 2000 miles. Have taken it into Ford dealership 3 times so far. One time my transmission actually started leaking and Ford was able to fix the leak but not the shifting. Rough shifting occurs in 1st-2nd-3rd gear. Sometimes I get stuck at lights trying to force it into first gear. Ford has had techs drive it multiple times and they tell me its normal, thats as far as the investigation has gone. I have 10,000 miles on the car and the shifting is only getting worse. Taking it into a new Ford dealership to see if they will be more helpful in finding out what the problem is and actually fixing it. Very disappointing with the way Ford treats their customers.

49 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2010

Manual transmission is clunky and does not shift properly. Feels like the synchros are grinding especially from 1st-2nd gear. Have had the shifter pop out of gear which I find to be dangerous. It is worse when cold, but still has happened even when warmed up.

50 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Rough, clunky shift, especially in cold condition.

51 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2010

I purchased my 2011 Ford Mustang v6 in Sep 2010. When the weather got cold (approx late Nov), I began to notice that shifting the manual transmission from 1st gear to 2nd gear when leaving home in the morning, or leaving work at the end of the day, engaging 2nd gear was very difficult. Whenever the weather was below freezing, and the car was first driven after cold start, it would exhibit this behavior. I brought my car to me dealer for this and another issue (known as "cold engine tick" - unique to v6). The dealer had difficulty solving the cold tick issue, but ultimately did. The dealer told me there was no TSB or ssm for the transmission issue and to check back periodically. Though I requested the dealer to document the complaint at that time, they did not. What scares me about this issue is the lag time required to shift into 2nd gear when pulling away from a red light with traffic behind me. Twice I was nearly rear-ended as a result of this (I can accelerate well in 1st, then suddently, I'm coasting to a stop while fighting to get the car into 2nd gear - by the way, the v6 does not have a skip shift feature). Only 2nd gear exhibits this issue, and only when the ambient temp is below freezing and the car hasn't been driven from more than about 5 miles. After about 5 miles it seems the tranmission warms and the difficulty shifting is reduced (though 2nd gear always has more resistance than the other 5 gears).

52 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2010

While driving my 2011 Mustang gt with a mt82 trans it continually grinds from 1st to 2nd gear even if you take your time and finesse it. . It has been doing this since I purchased this car with 400 miles on the clock, and in the cold weather forget it as you will never get it to work, it is a shame I had to purchase a winter car to drive and having to park a new car just is not right.

53 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2010

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while shifting from first to second gear at 25 mph, the gear shift seized. The contact also stated that the shift had to be forced into gears. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or mechanic to have the failure diagnosed. The failure mileage was 10,200.
