The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to make a left turn, the contact was unable to see oncoming traffic in the passenger's side rearview mirror. The contact adjusted the passenger's side rearview mirror, but the failure persisted. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 400.

After washing and drying the vehicle, the contact opened the driver side door when suddenly the exterior driver's side rearview mirror cover detached with a loud bang.
