Two problems related to speed control cable have been reported for the 1999 Ford Ranger. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When applying accelerator pedal will stick. Has to press very hard to get vehicle to respond. This happened before, in April 1999. At that time, dealer replaced throttle box. A bolt was stripped and caused throttle cable to stick. This was done under warranty.
While driving at 40 mph vehicle will start to hold that speed. The only way to get it to come down is to shut off motor. Consumer does not have cruise control. Consumer feels this is unsafe because when shutting motor off there is a loss of power steering and power brakes.
