Incident #1:approaching a stop sign doing approx 10-15 mph. Vehicle engine started surging 3-4 times. Rpm went up to approx 2100 then the problem went away. Foot "did not" slip from brake pedal to gas pedal. If my foot was not on brake vehicle would have shot through the stop sign. Incident #2: 11/12/2005: vehicle was moving approx 5 mph in front yard when the engine rpm surged up to approx 2100. Had to firmly apply brake or vehicle would have jumped forward. Problem lasted aprrox 3-4 seconds.
Ford has a technical service bulletin that describes the "high idle" condition when depressing clutch or shifting gears for the Ranger. This should be reevaluated for "recall" action as the throttle position sensor will remain at high rpm while in nuetral unless you place the vehicle back in gear. You can pull up on the accelerator or push it further down in attempt to get it to return to idle but all that does it make the condition worse (high idle is one thing but an engine racing with throttle position sensor thinking accelarator is pushed way down is another). This condition is caused by a poor electrical connection at the wire harness to throttle position sensor. It is a safety recall issue vice a technical service issue.
While driving then coming to a to stop and vehicle will almost stall without a prior warning, droping the rpm, then coming back up.
Vehicle is experiencing problem with engine acceleration whenever vehicle comes to a stop intermittently. Vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on four occasions, and problem still reoccurring.
