Vehicle has exhibited severe frame and underbody rust for several years; during last inspection mechanic cautioned that vehicle was badly rusted but still able to pass inspection. I visually inspected the vehicle this evening and found severe delamination to frame members and severe rusting of bed underframe. Crossmember supporting bed is rusted through or non-existent in approximately 40% of surface area. Shock absorber mounts, leaf spring mounts, fuel tank supports, and fuel lines significantly rusted. Approximately one year ago rear brake lines failed at low speed and vehicle nearly collided with parked cars and adjancent stone wall. Mechanic attributed brake failure to rust through of rear brake system. Vehicle was purchased new and is still owned by original owner. Vehicle has been maintained since new and properly cared for.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Ranger. While inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear passenger side brake line was rubbing against the shocks and the metal bracket that held the rear passenger side brake line separate was missing. The contact spoke with the dealer who advised him that no such part existed; the contact, however, found the part on the manufacturers website. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 92,000.
My frame is rusted out, 110,000, miles, replaced transmission, brake lines, gas lines, and a # of other things, due to a rusted out under carriage, the motor is great, things on the frame are breaking off all the time, so much rust cant even see a bolt.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Ranger. While driving 10 mph after accelerating from a stop, the contact made an abrupt stop and the brakes failed. She drove home at a low speed and, once there, she noticed brake fluid pumping out of the brake lines. The vehicle was towed to a local muffler shop the following day. The contact was informed that the brake lines had corroded through the passenger side rear brake lines. No repairs have been made because the parts have not yet arrived. The failure and current mileages were 50,170.
There is a lot of frame rust on my truck. Especially where the frame connects to the bed. I had to replace both the rear spring shackle brackets, both broke off because of rust. Twice there was a hole in the brake line, luckily I saw this when the car was parked and now while I was driving which could have been very dangerous. The rear bumpers paint has peeled off and the now is very rusty and it could fall off at anytime.
Vehicle had come to a complete stop, consumer kept foot on brake, vehicle rolled forward and rear ended vehicle in front, brakes had failed. Towed to dealer, who found brake system contaminated with motor oil. Dealer refused to honor warranty, stated consumer must have put motor oil in brake line.
Under visual inspection consumer noticed protective coating on brake cable has been rubbed away. Dealer will not repair.
