1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

My Ford 2002 Ranger edge pick ups automatic transmission fails to shift gears under acceleration such as taking off from a light or merging on into traffic. The transmission will shift from one gear than not go into gear leaving vehicle on of gear and without forward motion. I have had problems getting across interceptions and onto the highway. Have to remove foot from accelerator for several seconds for transmission to find a gear to shift into. Ford motor company has some service bulletins regarding shifting issues but fall way short of correcting this safety issue. This has and is an on going issue since the vehicle was new.

2 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/01/2006

In October of 2006 the automatic transmission in my 2000 4x4 Ford Ranger began to not engage in park when I would stop and park the truck. The indicator would also not stop on the gear that the truck was in. After checking the transmission selector cable run and adjusting it where it enters the transmission the problem was a little better. In about two weeks the problem began again and I looked at the components I had looked at before and everything was the same. At that time I also got a mirror and light and looked under the dash at the back of the gear selector and saw two star drive screws. I put a star drive on my driver and found both screws turned easily. After tightening the screws the shifting mechanism stayed on each gear as it should have and engaged all gears and park. The problem was fixed. The consequences of this were, that, before it was fixed I would stop the truck "put it in park" get out, and the truck would start rolling. Fortunately, I began using the parking brake before I figured out what the problem was. I only use my truck on rough roads about 5% of the time. Since this part is in a really out of sight place the screws should have some extra locking mechanism or adhesive on them because the consumer or mechanic is not going to look for the problem which is out of sight and in a hard to reach place.

3 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 1997 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/18/2004

This truck accerlerates by itself, it used to only be between 2nd and 3rd gears but now I can be on the freeway and in 4th gear when I can feel the pedal go down to the floor, I'm forced to put it in nuetral until the rpms go down, trying to get it into another gear only grinds because its running too high. This is a safety issue, if it happens at the wrong time someone could get hurt or the engine will just blow up!.

4 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/14/2001

I have had this truck for only one year and have had many problems. First the transmission went beacause it would not go past 2nd gear and the overdrive light was flashing. It was found to be internal parts and external wiring of the transmission. That same day the alternator went and left me with a dead battery. I have taken it into the dealer about 3 times for rough idle and have been turned away saying the cannot feel anything and that not to worry because its still under warranty. Twice I have taken it in for the front suspension due to a vibration to the steering wheel and truck. All rotors were turned and the front was reallined. Also the truck seems to go through gas a bit too quickly, just about a bit over a quarter tank for every 10-15 miles.
