Windshield Wiper/washer Switch Problems of Ford Ranger

The contact owns a 1999 Ford Ranger. While driving 20 mph in the rain, the contact activated the windshield wipers. However, the wipers did not begin to operate until 15 minutes after they were activated. The failure has occurred on numerous occasions. The contact did not locate any burnt fuses. She took the vehicle to the mechanic and they diagnosed the cause of failure as the wiring. The current mileage was 95,000 and failure mileage was 88,000.

Letter referencing Ford motor CO. Recall #00b40, consumer concerned why his 1999 Ford Ranger pickup was not included recall #00b40 for defective multifunction switch replacement. The faulty switch caused the wiper to come on while driving or using the turn signal. Many 1999 Rangers were recall but the representative indicated that eh consumer's vehicle was not included due to VIN.

Windshield wipers will operate in the off position.

While driving windshield wiper and washer comes on by themselves. Has to play with switch to turn off. This happens intermittently. Dealer contacted. Please add VIN.

1999 Ford Ranger: during warranty had windshield wiper switch replaced by Ford from notice in mail. About 6 months later, out of warranty, windshield wipers wont stay on. They come on when vehicle is cold but once start driving they stop working. . . Dont know if short in switch or heat related. . Ford has said that first fix should have fixed it, but now out of warranty and need to pay to fix it.

While driving and without prior warning windshield wipers come on without operator turning on wiper switch. Noticed that windshield wipers stay on for 15 seconds, and then turn off, causing driver distraction. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer replaced parts within switch.

Windshield wipers operates intermittently when vehicle is on. Consumer turns switch it comes on sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. Dealership is aware of problem.

Windshield wipers came on even when off running fluid completely out prior to stopping. Occurs at start of truck. New switch stopped problem.

Intermittently when windshield wiper switch is in the off position wipers will come on. Also, when wipers are on high they will operate in the intermittent mode. The dealer has been notified.

Windshield wipers and washer operate unpredictably while the switch is in the off position. This is very dangeous since the windshield gets smeared when dirty, causing loss of visibility. Dealer says problem is in switch. Obviously this is a problem accoss the Ford line up, since my son had the same problem with his 1997 f-150 and the problem was present on a rented 1999 windstar. In addition there are numerous complaints on this site. I think it is recall time.
