1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2022

Car engine accelerate on own. Tac meter shows over 3,000 rpm when I put it in neutral. I have to tap the accelerator and it goes back to normal. This happens about once a week now. I was slowing down for a stoplight and it happened. Brakes were not enough. Almost hit a car. Only by throwing into neutral allowed me to gain control and stop. My mechanic couldn’t find anything. I cannot allow anyone else to drive this as I am the only one familiar to handle it. I’ll probably sell it on a trade. I’ve read dozens of reports of this but no recall. I am surprised. . 2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2017

Around 6pm I was driving down a residential street (25 miles speed), in motion, all of a sudden the car just turned off. Luckily I was able to steer to the shoulder. I noticed all dashboard lights on, my gas pedal was not working, but the a/c was still working and the radio. So I know it wasnt my 1 year old battery. I waited for 30 seconds and turned the key and it restarted again. My fiance, our 4 children and I were in the car at the time. 70% of my driving is freeway. . This is our only car and im deathly afraid of this happening while im on freeway. I believe the engine is faulty on this year/model/make.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

Driving on a freeway at 70mph when I let off the throttle but the car continued to accelerate. Came to a stop light after exiting freeway and had to slam on breaks to come to a full stop because the vehicle throttle would not stop accelerating. Checked for a rug or anything that might be stuck under the gas pedal and nothing was there. Once I arrived at the destination I put vehicle in park and the engine reved up to 4000 rpm. Opened hood and throttle was not stuck but after I moved the throttlebody to rev the engine it returned back to a normal idle speed. This is freaking dangerous. Dont buy this piece of crap car.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

I was driving through downtown when I noticed increases acceleration and trouble with stopping. When I put my car in park, it would rev up to 2500 pm. I would stomp on accelerator and it brought it down to normal below 1000 rpm in park. Thankfully I avoided having 3 accidents. I was about to call for a truck truck but did not. I managed to drive my car back to work. My CO-worker looked at it and saw the throttle was sticking and cruise control cable came off. He was able to reattach it and fix the throttle. A week after he fixed it I started to have some acceleration issues but minor and today it finally got worse. I looked on here to see if other people having the same issue and yes I did find a lot of people with same issues. I do agree with a lot of those people that this should be a recall. I can't afford to get it fixed by a professional or a new car.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

The car suddenly began to accelerate and was difficult to stop. I put it in neutral after I got to a place where I could park. The engine accelerated to 3000 rpm and I turned off the ignition. I attempted to start the car again and engine again rose to 3000 rpm. I checked to see that the accelerator was not stuck to the floorboard. Then started the engine again. Again it reved to over 3000 rpm so I pressed the gas pedal and then the idle returned to normal. Once I got on the freeway to return home the cruise control would not engage. I called the Ford dealership and they stated they were not aware of any recalls on 2006 Ford Taurus for acceleration problems.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2014

My wife was driving our 2006 Ford Taurus and suddenly the car started accelerating out of control. She was able to slow the car down by braking firmly and eventually the car stopped doing it. We did not drive it the next day. Two days later, I was driving and braking for a red light when the car aggressively accelerated again. Only by slamming on the brakes did I avoid hitting the car in front of me. I put the car in park and turned it off and on again, but the engine was still racing out of control. I turned the car off and on again and pressed the accelerator quickly up and down and this stopped the engine from racing. Since that time, the car has accelerated more gently (without any pressure on the accelerator pedal) twice, both at highway speeds. Both times, mashing the accelerator seemed to temporarily relieve the symptoms. I am going to call Ford, although I doubt they will do anything for me.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

The gas pedal periodically sticks between 35-40 mph in my 2006 Ford Taurus. This causes the engine rpm's to increase. I am able to slow the car by pressing the brakes. I can also stop the engines racing by tapping the pedal again abruptly.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2013

Car auto accelerating while driving without gas pedal press. Had to brake very hard to stop the car. In park position, engine directly ran to 3000rpm. In drive position, the engine speed 400rpm higher than usual. Sent my car to 2 diff workshops. No vacuum leak, no dtc. Changed iac valve. Yet still not fix the issue. Problem happened several times recently. Fault can be recovered if drive long time in low drive.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I was driving to work and the vehicle accelerated out of control. I tried stopping the car, I put it into park, and even while in park it was still revving up to 4 or 5 thousand rpms. I re-started the car hoping this would "re-set" the vehicle. No such luck. As for now, the vehicle's gas pedal is eiether stuck, or something is wrong with the cruise control cable. Either way, the situation, in my opinion, is extremely dangerous. My brakes began to smoke before I could get the vehicle home and wait for my husband to help me figure out what to do next.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2013

About a year ago our Taurus started to experience sudden accelerations. It would go from 40 to 70 with your foot off the gas. Had to pull over, put in neutral, and stomp on gas peddle. This has happened several times with the last occurrence July 15, 2014. Mechanics can't figure it out. Car is too dangerous to operate. This needs to be recalled.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2013

When driving the car even at speeds of 45 miles per hour it dies. No lights for flashers no power steering no power brakes. It does start back up but in the mean time I am in moving traffic. I have had it in the shop all week they have executed many tests and cannot find the problem. The last time this happened I had my 3 yr old granddaughter in the car and I believe this is very dangerous and could cause a rear end collision.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2013

While drive down the street approx 25mph the engine started to rev up and the car accelerated. Even when I tried to brake the car wanted to continue to drive. I tried stomping on the gas pedal, but if didn't have any affect. I pulled off the road shut off the car and restarted the problem did not happen again.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2012

I was driving on my way to work, after being stop at a stop sign my car began to accelerate itself. When I left sign my automatic revved up to about 30-35 mph when I attempted to slow down my engine felt as if it was fighting against me. When I reached the parking lot the car sped up as if someone gunned it. When I pulled into a parking spot and placed the car in park my rpm's began to hit up to 4 and 5 (x 1000) .

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Purchased the car in late August 2012. Shortly after purchase car would rev high on cold starts, when placed into gear car sometimes would die. This was not a consistent problem and difficult to describe and identify the issue. By the end of December 2012 the problem became consistent on each cold start. Took car into firestone. Firestone replaced idle air control valve and cleaned fuel system. First attempt to replace air control valve failed when they believed the new part was defective. Replaced new one with another new one and the car started fine for about a month and went back to inconsistent start ups. Took car back to firestone. They again replaced air control valve and the problem still was present and I was told to take to the dealership. Took to the Ford dealership, they stated the most recent air control valve placed by firestone was defective and they replaced air control valve with Ford exclusive part. Picked car up and upon leaving the car suddenly accelerated on its own. I turned the car around and had them look at it again. They could not duplicate the problem or determine what caused the sudden acceleration. Two weeks later the problem appeared again while driving on the highway. I would lift my foot off the gas and the car would accelerate to 60mph before I applied the brake to slow it down. To keep a consistent speed I would have to "ride the brake". I internet searched the problem and came across an article describing the exact problem I was having and that it was under investigation for 2005-06 Ford Taurus for sudden acceleration most likely due to cruise control cable catching on the throttle. Told Ford dealership what I discovered, took the car in and they identified that the cruise control cable was in fact catching on the throttle.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2012

On may 6, 2012, while driving at highway speeds, I could feel my 2006 Ford Taurus se accelerating despite my foot not pressing the accelerator, nor the cruise control being engaged. As I pressed the brakes, the car continued to accelerate, with rpm reaching 3000 to 4000. After exiting the highway and placing the vehicle in park, the engine continued to accelerate. In order to stop this rapid acceleration in rpm, I turned off the engine. Upon restarting, the engine immediately revved to over 3000 rpm. If I shifted the vehicle into neutral, the engine would rev to 4000 rpm then drop down to 1000 rpm. This sudden, rapid, acceleration continued to randomly occur as I drove to my destination. I took my vehicle to a Ford dealer for repairs, as I was not near my place of residence. They replaced the idle air control valve. However, as I was driving home from work on August 12,2012, at a speed between 35-40 mph, my Taurus began to accelerate again on its own. I immediately shifted the car into neutral and the rpm went to 4000 and dropped down to 1000. I then shifted the vehicle back to the drive position, and the engine idled fine the rest of my trip home. The best way to describe the rapid acceleration is similar to when using the cruise control. If the cruise control is turned on and you decide to "coast", the engine slows down. But when you press the "resume" button on the cruise control, you can feel the engine pull and the car begin accelerating. This is what it felt like while driving. However, I had not been using the cruise control in either of the aforementioned situations. My mother, my newborn daughter, myself or other motorists could have been killed during this uncontrolled increased acceleration.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2012

Sudden acceleration problem with my 2006 Ford Taurus has started again. . . I first reported this to NHTSA about a month ago. . This time around, it begins intermittently on start up, and sometimes while driving. . . This problem began when my cruise control stopped working. This is a very dangerous condition. . . It happened three times to my wife about 2 hours ago, and she had to press very hard on the brakes to get it to stop at a stoplight the acceleration problems began over a year ago and happened on and off since then. . . . We have gone through a period of several months without a problem. . But this time it is much worse, the acceleration is more severe. .

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

While driving the car loses power and you have to coast to a safe place to stop. After a few minutes it starts back up and runs fine. This has happened 6 times. 2 dealerships, 2 replaced fuel pumps and modules, 1 replaced processor and battery later its still doing the same thing! now the Ford dealership says they can't go anyfurther with the vehicle because they can't duplicate the problem. I am guessing the hundreds of other 2006 Taurus drivers who have complained about the same problem wasn't enough for Ford to do a recall. But I am telling you if my husband who drives the vehicle dies because of this Ford will have bigger problems because I will sue!.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2011

Purchased this vehicle used and immediately had episodes of the accelerator sticking. Happens on nearly every trip with this vehicle and happens 4-5 time on a 20 mile trip. Worse episodes of stuck accelerator with rapid acceleration as in freeway entrance ramps. The brakes can override the stuck accelerator, but it is frightening when it happens in town. After several months of dealing with this issue and not finding a cause, we have learned to stop the sticking by punching the accelerator hard once or twice at a point in the road where more forward acceleration will not be a safety issue. We have had this issue so much and are so familiar with it, I sometimes use it as a cruise control feature while on the freeway, but it is not as reliable and is not as steady as the true speed control device. This issue is dangerous for the inexperience driver and should be addressed quickly. I am aware of a national study of this very problem. Please let us know the outcome.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2011

When the car isn't being driven but is on sometimes the gas revs up by itself and engine just keeps running and the rpm runs up, the gas also accelerates on its own and the pedal sticks.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

2006 Ford Taurus shuts off at stop lights and has rough idle. It also lurches forward repeatedly while the brake peddle is applied at intersection. As if it is revving trying not to die. It is worse when it has been driven for a while or under added load of a/c. This is dangerous as my wife and kids are in a car that creeps into intersection or dies all together causing them to be stuck at an intersection with cars approaching behind them because they now have a green light. It starts back up and they are able to drive off but this keeps happening. The car has no codes of indication of a problems afterwards other than rough idling.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

Ford motor company 2006 Ford Taurus se 3. 0 litre engine. The location of the oil filter is directly above the starter and starter solenoid assembly. This very poor design can lead to the failure and possible fire in this vehicle. I asked Ford's own authorized servicers in the denver market and they agreed to this as a fact. Yet, as an owner of said model-they have done nothing to inform the public or recall or remedy this. Please check into this as I believe it is a very common design failure and potentially very problematic.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

Intermittently throttle will keep rising and the car will not stop unless shifted to neutral and acceleration pedal pushed to dislodge stuck throttle. Brakes will not stop throttle from rising unless steps above followed. First time this occurred, I had to fight the acceleration with the brakes causing my engine to smell like burnt rubber until I figured out the trick of taping the acceleration pedal when in neutral.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Taurus. While stopped at a stop sign, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated to 40 mph. The contact automatically slammed on her brakes and avoided crashing into any other vehicles. She merged onto the highway and removed her foot from the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle continued to accelerate. The contact had to depress the brake pedal with maximum force in order for the vehicle to slow down. As a result, the engine revved and the vehicle finally began to decelerate. She managed to drive the vehicle home and placed the gear into park. The engine revved for a couple of minutes before gradually stopping. The vehicle has not been inspected. The contact called numerous dealers and she feels that she should not have to pay for a diagnostic. The failure and current mileages were 50,000.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2006

I have had numerous instances where the car does not" roll over" or start. The latest problem occurred on 11/10/06. I was making a left hand turn at a busy intersection going approximately 30 miles per hour when the car just died in the middle of the intersection. Luckily, no accident occurred but this was a very dangerous situation and could have resulted in injury or even worse.
