The contact owns a 2008 Ford Taurus. While driving 75 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning. The contact drove and stopped at the interstate where she noticed a strong burning odor coming from the vehicle, which caused breathing issues. The contact had to open the windows while driving. The contact also stated that the engine light failed to turn on. Once the contact shut off and restarted the vehicle, the engine light turned on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the coil plugs, pcm, and computer burned out and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 85,197.

The wrench symbol and the check engine light came on after being parked overnight. The shift in the transmission is rough and jerky in motion. It did this when I first purchased and we had the code cleared and had a recall on the emission or pcm fixed by Ford. Now the lights are back on and the shifting is as I said earlier rough and jerky.
While I was merging into traffic onto an interstate, during rush hour, the car quit accelerating. Suddenly, there was no ability to control engine speed. As I glanced at the dash I noticed the wrench warning light and it said see manual. I was almost side swiped by another vehicle but was able avoid the car and was able to coast to a stop on the side of the interstate. When I pressed the button, the car shut off and when I depressed it again, the car started. I was able to merge into traffic and head home. One the way home, on the interstate, the same vehicle malfunction occurred again. There was a car behind me but I quickly turned my flashers on and was able to coast to the side of he interstate. I took the car to the dealership to have it looked at and at this time they have not been able to isolate the problem. Hard to trust the safety & reliability of the vehicle when the authorized service professionals can't find the problem. Additionally, they said the computer did not store all of the codes and all they had was a pcm communication error code. This is a serious safety issue, particularly if it requires frequent driving in heavily congested traffic, and if you are traveling at higher speeds on the interstate.

Ongoing transmission upshift problems. Upon leaving the driveway first thing, or soon after coming to a stop and trying to accelerate again the transmission at times refuses to up shift then slams into gear at high rpm. Dealer/other mechanics have not been able to duplicate although there are 2 TSB on these 6f50 transmissions. Worse in colder months and somewhat random. Besides the cumulative damage this is doing we are worried that the transmission may fail entirely at the exact wrong time (waiting to turn left in an intersection, waiting to enter highway etc) resulting in serious injury. . At highway speed, vehicle suddenly, without any warning lights, stops running, resulting in loss of all power assist to maneuver vehicle to safety. Unable to restart vehicle. Towed to repair shop. Problem determined to be failure of "coil on plug" ignition coils, which shorted out pcm/processor assembly (main computer). Additionally, this mis-firing resulted in partial low effiency in catalytic converter, which will eventually impair vehicle's ability to meet emission standards. Total repair costs: ignition coils (6), spark plugs (6), and pcm replacement - $2,314. 14, catalytic converter replacement - $1,589. 95, for a total of $3,904. 09 Ford motor company has been aware of this problem since at least 2010, and has issued two technical service bulletins regarding this problem.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while reversing out of residential garage, he attempted to shift into drive but the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a parked vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the pcm was not programmed correctly. As a result, the pcm needed to be reset. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 39,000.

Premature transmission failure on 2002 Ford Taurus. Based on mechanics comments, discussion with other Taurus owners and internet research there is sufficient anecdotal evidence to support the assumption that there is a design defect in the transmission in the and other Ford vehicles. I had recently had the transmission serviced. I noticed a performance issue following the service. The pcm produced an error code three weeks following the service. I was able to safely drive directly to the mechanics
the error code indicated that 3rd gear in the transmission had failed. The only fix for this problem is to replace the transmission.

Transmission , 2002 Taurus, approximately 22,000 miles is clunking and banging when you shift from park to drive, drive to reverse, reverse to drive and even when you put it in neutral. We have been telling the dealer since we owned this car that the transmission was clunking at times and we keep being told that it is normal or its the parking pawl. It used to take about a second after you stopped to downshift into first. We brought it in on 02-18-02 and were told there is not a problem and that this is normal. We kept bringing it up when we brought it in for service and was told this is normal. We brought it back on 02-25-04 and told them that it had a hard up shift into second and when shifting from park to drive and drive to reverse etc. It bangs and you can feel it jerk the car. They reprogrammed the pcm and replaced 2 motor mounts because they were bad. The up shifting while driving and the hesitation down shifting when stopping has seemed to improve. We took it in on 09-1-04 and asked service writer if we could have a mechanic take a drive and listen to it. He said wait a minute. He came back with who he said was his service manager. His service manager told us that he owns a Taurus and they do this. After research on the internet about transmissions they should have a smooth shift from park to drive and drive to reverse etc. This transmission is smooth at times and clunks and bangs at other times. We wanted to have a mechanic take a drive with us and we would show him what it was doing. It clunks and bangs after it warms up and we told this to mike and his service manager. What made the motor mounts go bad? will this transmission fail on us unexpectedly or hurt the motor mounts etc? I called the service writer on 9/7, he kept telling me it was normal. We want to sell the car but dont believe this is normal. If this is normal and safe, then we want Ford to provide in writing. It is getting worse!.
Pavement was a little bit wet, but the vehicle lost traction control totally and ran along the curb before can be stopped while making a right turn. The vehicle is equipped with traction control and abs but did not seem to work well. On other (3~4) occasions in making turns, the tires appeared to spin too freely for seconds before traction regained.
