Dt:
the consumer's vehicle rolled while parked. The consumer indicated there was a recall on the vehicle and contacted the manufacturer. The manufacturer informed her that her vehicle was made one month to early and that her vehicle could not be repaired under the recall. The recall was for a park pin which was not installed properly. The consumer indicated that the vehicle sometimes rolled while parked on level ground, but mostly rolled while on hills. The emergency brake had to be applied to ensure that the vehicle would not move. The consumer had to start the vehicle in neutral because of this problem. The consumer is afraid that she may forget to put the emergency brake on and leave her vehicle. She actually has had to chase after the vehicle to keep it from hitting other vehicles. No prior warning to the failure. The consumer indicated that the vehicle stopped going into park suddenly and she'd have to take it in and out of gears.

(1) intermittently, radio turned off when backing up or during forward turn. (2) while driving, seatbelt light began flashing with seat belt fastened, then power steering failed and radio turned off simultaneously
(3) vehicle was towed to mechanic who one month previously fixed same problem on 1997 Taurus by changing the park-neutral switch.

The transmission range selector (also called park/neutral start switch) shorts internally and causes the variably assisted steering to malfunction (stop assisting entirely). Date of incident may not be exact. While turning right at low speed into an alley power steering failed momentarily causing front wheel to jump the opposite curb onto the sidewalk and damage wheel cover. TSB # 96255 may describe problem, but I'm not sure. Ford dealership pulled up a report on this for me. Report states that the transmission range selector may short internally and cause the power steering assist to be reduced (eliminated), power windows to fail, and stereo to temporarily fail. This problem is intermittent and sporadic, but since the steering is adversely affected this problem constitutes a clear safety hazard. I feel that I was lucky as there was nobody/nothing to hit and that all I had damaged was a wheel cover.

Problem #1: when the car is started and the transmission is put in reverse, the car "jumps" back approximately 1 foot, even though your foot is pressed firmly on the brake pedal. This was reported numerous times to the dealership who has been unable to locate the cause of the problem. The dealership replaced the transmission "in the hopes" that this would correct the problem but it did not. When I informed the dealership of this, they claimed that the "jumping back" problem was normal vehicle operation. This does not make any sense since they admitted it was a problem previously and tried to correct it by replacing the transmission. Problem #2: the driver-side seat belt tightens by itself around the lap while driving. This is resulting in a restriction of normal movement inside the car. The seatbelt has, on several occassions "locked-up" while the car was in motion, preventing me from turning to look over my shoulder for on-coming traffic to make a lane change on the highway. The dealership tried to fix this by replacing the seatbelt. When I informed them that the tightening problem still existed, they said that the seatbelt tension was normal. This again does not match what they had previously said and acted on by replacing the seatbelt in an attempt to correct the problem. Both of these problems pose, in my opinion, a significant safety hazard that the dealership is currently claiming are both beyond their capability to rectify.

I was at a stop when the engine lunged ahead and died,at the time I had my foot on the brake. It repeated this 3 other times. The repiring dealer said the ground cable for the pcm was lose causing the engine to lose control. The lunging was quite violent.
Interlock system inside steering column failed causing the vehicle to roll backward while in park causing damage to 2 vehicles. Nlm.
Key was in igintion with engine turned off when a 4-year old child moved shift lever from park to neutral without applying brakes, causing vehicle to roll.
Vehicle rolled backwards while in park gear, causing a collision.
Transmission shifts into reverse (internally) while gear shift indicator still indicates park.
Parking brake failed, causing accident.
Vehicle "surges" when accelerating at slow speeds, and when coming out of a stop; took car to dealer 2 times; they claimed that their transmission expert found nothing wrong, and asked if I had ever driven a car with an electronic shift before. When I said "no" they said that was what was wrong -- that I was not used to this kind of shift. However, I have been driving for 25 years, and have never experienced anything like this, including when I test drove the car. I am concerned that car will accidentally accelerate and injure someone.
