36 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/14/2010

Own a 2005 Ford Taurus sel. With less than 100k miles on it, and without warning, the transmission stopped engaging. This happened on a busy interstate 90 miles from home. Luckily, we were able to pull the car off to the shoulder. This and many other accounts have led me to believe that Ford has installed faulty transmissions in this model line. No transmission should drop out without warning with such low mileage on the transmission. Transmission needed to be rebuilt, cost me $2200 in the end.

37 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/05/2010

Traveling in a busy area, driver attempted to pull out at a traffic light and the transmission lost all drive. All of a sudden, with no warning, the car would not go into any drive gear or reverse. The car had to be towed to a mechanic who looked to see if the filter had fallen causing no fluid to get to the pump. No such luck. Appears the pump or pump shaft has failed. A friend of his that does transmission work for Ford admitted to this being an issue. It is a shame we have not heard anything from Ford about this. I am so grateful that my wife, who normally drives the car, was not stuck in heavy traffic with no way to get off the road.

38 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/29/2010

Parked car overnight, started next morning- car would not move. Park worked, all other gears acted as if in neutral.

39 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

I was on highway 89s coming off of the ramp when I hit the stop sign at the end of the ramp the Ford Taurus just stopped. I noticed that it was revving up a lot on the highway then nothing. It is now sitting in the driveway after being towed from clinton st.

40 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/23/2010

We were stopped at a stop sign and when we went to press the gas pedal to go the rpm's revved for a second and then nothing. The car would not go like it was in neutral. We turned the car off then turned it on again and still nothing. The car wouldn't go into gear. Now we are trying to figure out how to get it fixed and are going to the dealership tomorrow to see if they can help. We have only had the car for a year and it only has 95,000 miles on it.

41 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/23/2010

My husband was driving in the city late Saturday night, and without any previous warning, the transmission completely died. The car was just coasting on it's own momentum. He tried restarting the car, tried reverse-none of the gears worked. Our mechanic verified what we feared- we need a new transmission. We are now trying to decide how to handle this. We can not afford thousands of dollars for a new transmission, yet we still owe money on the car.

42 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

I own a 2006 Ford Taurus and without any kind of warning or signs, my car stopped on me completely during rush hour in the middle of the day. As I took my feet off the brakes to proceed through the intersection as the light turned green, my car began to roll backwards as though it were in neutral. This could have resulted in a more serious accident if I would have rolled back into the car behind me. Or if they would have been eager and had accelerated behind me or standing behind the car.

43 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

2010 Ford Taurus stalls at highway speeds (transmission seems to shift to neutral) has occurred three times in rush hour traffic, somehow have not been crashed into. Ford has replaced at least four different parts, each time saying its fixed, then it happens again. Last week for the third time I was very narrowly missed by a semi, thank my angel for being able to coast enough to the shoulder, I cried for half hour from the panic. Never again will I drive this car on highway no matter how many parts the change. Ford is giving me the run around now on buying it back - they say they have had no other issues such as this with this model false - I have found five others on internet blogs with the exact same issue and same results. This car is a death trap and even engineers from Ford have been here to assess with no results. They should have to drive their new technology for a year before they put it out to consumers who may be harmed due to their negligence.

44 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/13/2010

Son was driving car, stopped at an intersection to make sure no cars were approaching, took foot off the brake and nothing, stepped on the gas pedal and it would not move. He shut the car off, started it back up, tried all the gears and it would not move. I had driven the car earlier in the day and did not have any problems, there was not any indications anything was wrong. From what I understand this is a huge, common problem with the 2003 Fords. I am a student and I had just paid off this car. It has just over 89,000 miles on it. I don't have the amount of money it is going to take to fix this problem. Someone needs to tell Ford that they have a defect in their vehicles and do something about it. I called Ford and all they said they could do was take down my information and told me to take it to the dealer and have it checked out. They know what the problem is and they are ignoring those who have a Ford vehicle and refuse to do anything. I am very frustrated since I now have no car and can't buy another one. Please do something about this problem so many people are having.

45 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/06/2010

Recently while driving my 2003 Ford Taurus down a busy highway my transmission quit working almost causing a major pile up it cost me around 2500 dollars to repair the problem here is a link of other consumer complaint. . Read more...

46 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

Cruise control was set at 70 when the car all-of-the-sudden accelerated out of my control to the highest possible rpm and then snapped at about 90, rendering my car completely useless. I found myself coasting w/ very little control, out in the middle of nowhere, 5 miles from the nearest exit. Cost over $2000 out-of-pocket to completely replace 200 transmission-related parts.

47 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/24/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact was stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle and it was towed to her residence. The vehicle was inspected by her personal mechanic who stated that the transmission would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The current and failure mileage was 58,506. Updated 12/21/bf updated 12/30/jb.

48 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/20/2010

2010 Ford Taurus sho loses power and rear view camera activates when in drive. Almost caused a collision when lost power when making a turn with on coming traffic coming at me at high speed. This problem happens sporadically and the dealer says they could not duplicate it so Ford will not authorize any repairs. I was told to bring the car back when the problem becomes chronic. I consider this to be a safety issue and registered a complaint with Ford. Their response was the same as the dealer.

49 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

While driving my 2010 Ford Taurus sho (at various speeds including highway speeds) the car will automatically shift into neutral and my "rearview camera" will turn on in what appears to be an attempt by the car to automatically shift into reverse (the camera is only supposed to turn on in reverse). To date, the dealer has been unable to determine the cause and thereby unable to fix the problem and Ford has indicated they are not seeing other similar issues (not sure if this is true). This is a very serious safety issue as this often occurs during acceleration and you lose all ability to accelerate (of course) if you're in neutral. Should the car somehow find a way to shift into reverse (as I said, the camera only comes on in reverse and seems to indicate to me that the car's software is trying to shift into reverse for no reason) while on the highway it could very easily result in an accident. Please be aware of this matter. I have put a specific date in the approximate incident date but this has happened many times on different dates.

50 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/26/2010

2003 Ford Taurus. Car was running okay. I was stopped at a red light and when the light changed. I put my foot on the gas pedal and the car would not move. A few days earlier during a heavy rainfall I noticed the rpms meter go up while the speed dipped. I panicked but he car made it home and drove fine for several days thereafter. I was told the transmission was shot.

51 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

I was driving my 2003 Ford Taurus down a state highway, in arkansas, and the transmission went out while driving it. I went to pass a vehicle, and instead of the vehicle kicking into passing gear, it was as if the vehicle went into neutral instead. The engine just revved up and the vehicle started to slow. I barely made it to the side of the road, without being struck by another vehicle. The vehicle gave no indication of any transmission problems and has approximately 132,000 miles on it. There were no shifting issues, sounds, or warning lights. I have read where many other Ford Taurus owners have experienced nearly the same issue. This could have been much worse than it was, since I was in the middle of a main highway and traveling at approximately 55 miles per hour at the time of the incident. The vehicle will not shift into any forward gear or reverse.

52 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

2003 Ford Taurus, 120,000 miles no warning car just stopped going moving, transmission seems to not be working, goes in every gear just no movement, have had nothing but trouble with this car since I bought it 3 yrs ago.

53 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

Transmission light came on and although rpm's would go to 6000 you could only drive 30mph - no warning or indication of any transmission problem - service had been done per manual and was current - mileage was 60k - rebuilt transmission was the solution - really not happy.

54 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/10/2010

My 2003 Ford Taurus transmission just gave out while driving. Fortunately I was able to coast off road and get car towed to dealership. I have only 83,000 miles on car and transmission gave no warning it was going! now I have to pay 2650 dollars to fix tranny Ford knew was bad!.

55 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/29/2010

While driving to work, stopped at red light, when I accelerated through the intersection. . . No power. There was no warning. Luckily I was able to get off to the side of the road and call for tow truck. Thank god I wasn't involved in an accident also, considering the transmission just goes out and how impatient drivers are.

56 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/22/2010

I was driving down the road and with no warning at all, my 2003 Ford Taurus starts to rev as if it was in neutral. I pull off to the side of the road, I try putting it gear with negative results. Not even a little jerk. Get it towed to a shop, they tell me I need a new transmission. Tranny just stopped with no warning. . Read more...

57 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/14/2010

With no warning or problems of any kind my transmission went out in the middle of traffic. My car was stuck in the middle of the road. Nothing I could do. Buses were coming at me from the left, cars from behind and in front. This is a huge safety hazard. Had to replace with another transmission costing over 1500. 00. We will never purchase a Ford vehicle again unless this is made right by the company. We have talked to several mechanics and this is common amongst Ford Taurus'. Wish we would have known about this ongoing problem before we purchased. We also wonder why there hasn't been a recall. Is this the purpose of recalls. How many people need to complain before something is done. No wonder people are buying from Toyota. At least they own their problems and offer a solution.

58 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/07/2010

Transmission "catches" while driving at speed causing the car to hesitate. Feels as though the vehicle will stall and cause a rear end type of accident.

59 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 04/06/2010

Driving at approx. 30mph and my car acted like I just threw it into neutral. Any gear I tried to put it into acted like I was in neutral. My transmission had to be repaired. I am reading the message boards and seeing that this is happening alot in the Ford Taurus. Some were driving down the interstate when this happens and that could be very dangerous going from 65mph to 0. I think there needs to be a recall on these Taurus transmissions. My mechanic stated that he's fixed around 20 of them in the past year, there's obviously a problem with them.

60 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/23/2010

I had just pulled out of the parking lot of my local ymca and was driving on a suburban road when all of the sudden my rpms went up and my speed went down. I was able to bring the car to a stop but loss all control of the ability to accelerate my vehicle. I brought the vehicle to a stop and called for a tow truck. The result was that the transmission had broken down. The approximate mileage on my car at the time is 70,900 miles. . Read more...

61 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

2006 Ford Taurus. Started decelerating in the middle of traffic. Engine starts and check engine light goes off and stays off so probably no dpc code. Transmission does not work at all. Ford shop said it's not their problem because it's out of warranty. It has 107,000 miles on it. It was by the grace of god that I didn't cause an accident.

62 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

I got this car in 2009 around about November. By March 2010, the transmission went out on me with no warning. Got another transmission now March 2012 I just found out to have my transmission rebuilt again and I cannot afford to have it rebuilt again. How long do a transmission suppose to last in a Ford Taurus anyway. I mean will I have to have my transmission rebuilt every two years as long as I own this car?.

63 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

I was just driving and there was a whirling sound a my car just coast to stop. Right now I have to spend 1700. 00 for a rebuilt transmission.

64 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/16/2010

I own a 2008 Ford Taurus x awd. I noticed a puddle of transmission fluid underneath the vehicle along the front passenger side. Dealer diagnosed the problem as a bad front transmission seal. I was advised that the repair would take from five to twenty five days to complete due to a backlog of approximately 3,000 vehicles (taurus, Taurus x) nationwide necessitating this part replacement. Why wouldn't this be made part of a nationwide recall or at least a technical service bulletin? quality is supposed to be "job number one" at Ford.

65 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

My 2009 Taurus lmtd awd 6 speed 3. 5 v6 would roll back on a hill quite a bit and if you press the gas, it stalls and you have no brakes. I brought this to the dealer and was told "this is a normal characteristic. The lower idle speed on the car does not overcome the tc slip under that condition. Recommended no repair attempts be made" I have docs on this. Another dealer had the same car and it did the same thing, but a 3rd Ford dealer was more concerned why it stalled. I was told so it did not hurt the transmission, (verbally told this).

66 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/26/2010

I just purchased (1/23/2010) a used 2006 Ford Taurus se, 3. 0l vehicle with 62,800 miles. At the time of purchase the cruise control did not work (would not engage) and I was told by the dealer (phillipsburg/stateline Hyundai) they would have me return to repair it as soon as the parts arrived. At approximately 6:00 pm on 1/26/2010), I was driving the vehicle at 35 mph on airport road/south when I noticed the light ahead turned yellow. I released the accelerator and the car continued to maintain speed. (I had not turned on the cruise control and there were no indications it was on). I then stepped on the brake and to my amazement the car attempted to accelerate. I depressed the brakes further, but the engine revved higher to maintain speed and I went thru the red light! attempting to stop the car, as another traffic light with stopped cars was immediately ahead, I had to swerve to the right turn lane and went thru another red light barely avoiding crossing traffic. Not thinking to turn off the ignition, I depressed the parking brake, continued to hit the main brakes and the car began to slow (speed) although the engine revved uncontrollably. I finally pulled to the side and shut off the engine. I attempted to restart the car and during 4 successive tries it immediately revved to over 4,000 rpm. On the 5th try the start was normal and I was able to drive home. I am taking the car to the dealer tomorrow morning to have the problem diagnosed and corrected immediately! this could have been a disaster for both myself, my car and those innocent pedestrians/fellow drivers on the road at the time.

67 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/07/2010

Transaxle going out with no signs of problem. While driving and making turn transaxle went out while in the middle of turn in middle of intersection. Was lucky not a lot of traffic and parking lot close enough where I could coast into safely. No gears except park it was like all other gears was neutral. I am going to have transaxle replaced or rebuilt.
