First, I want to say that this vehicle is well mantained and serviced on a regular basis. It was a pleasent summer day but had more of a autumn feeling wether. I was driving on the interstate in east tennessee, I had just merge onto the interstate and had been driving for maybe 10 minutes. I slowed down for traffic to about 40 mph as I crest a hill. When I stepped back onto the gas (going down hill now), I felt the car shift into 4 gear. I then felt, and heard a pop similiar to a blowout, but in reality it was the car sliding out of gear. I had only managed to reach about 50mph when the car stop accelearating, (I put on my hazards) I was trying to coast to a safe place, but the constrution projects made no place to pull off. Within 5 seconds, a car traveling behind me was bumped by a tractor trailor and was knocked into me. My Ford mechanic says the transmission is shot and the catalytic converter went out (was that the popping noise? I wonder. ) $3500 to fix this problem. I have google 05 transmission problems and have found numerous over 500 problems that have to do with. I don't know whether Ford was trying to save a few dollars, or if they were trying to save fuel mileage, but this transmission is a serious problem. I will not buy another Ford if this problem doesn't get resolve by Ford recalling these transmissions. Last laugh, insurance compainies will repair any car to the quality it was just before the wreck (no better, no worse. ). Since my transmission went out before the car wreck, they can replace it, ergo. . . The insurance covers the body work, but will not cover the transmission. My question to Ford is does someone have to die before you fix your errors. My father worked at Ford for 22 years; he would be. . . . Really disappointed to see what Ford pass for quality.

4 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2008 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

We initially had issues at 35k miles with the transmission making loud noises and suddenly jerking while accelerating from a stop. Took the car to the dealership and they said they couldn't figure out what the problem was but since we reported it prior to the expiration of the warranty we would be covered if it continued to have problems. In September 2011 the problem was finally bad enough that it tripped the computer and they said that they just needed to replace the sensors (oss and tss), and that it would be a $600 repair. I reminded them that we brought it in for the repair prior to the expiration of the warranty and they eventually agreed to make the repair for a $200 deductible. A month later the transmission went out completely while driving down a narrow road at approximately 35mph. The car lost power but we were eventually able to limp home at 5mph. I agreed and they made the repair. At this point all of the jerking from the bad sensors had destroyed several gears in the transmission and necessitated a complete rebuild ($3900). If they had fixed the problem in the first place the transmission would never have been damaged from trying to shift at the wrong times due to the bad sensors! there were safety concerns throughout the life of this vehicle as is jerked, jumped, and ultimately failed in a completely unpredictable fashion. The automatic transmission began to make a grinding noise, and then I was unable to shift gears. After a few moments, the transmission failed completely. I took the car to a shop in italy, and the mechanic actually told me he knew that this was a common problem with this model!.

6 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1998 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/22/2003

As I was pulling away from my driveway about 5 mph I heard a loud noise between hood and front seats. I soon realised that when I steped on the acceleration pedal the car won't go foward. I parked the car immidiately and turned off waited for a couple of minutes I got off from the car and I personally inpected the car from the exterior of the motor, and underneath of it and no oil was spilled (motor or transmission). I turned the car back on steped on the break and shifted to drive, and steped on accelaration pedal, but car wont move. I alo tryed reverse and did not move aswell. When u putted the car into 2nd gear it took a couple of seconds for the car to move. I also tryed 1st. Gear and it did not move as well.

7 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1997 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/28/2003

While driving and coming to a complete stop, the automatic transmission didn't shift properly. It would shift from drive to neutral and make loud noise. The consumer's wife was driving when the incident occurred leaving her in a precarious position. By jiggling the shift lever, she was able to shift into reverse then into drive. This had been a common problem for 1991-1998 models. Ford would not take responsibility.

8 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1997 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/25/2003

1997 Taurus with 75000 miles, bought new. Transmission began slipping into neutral when coming to a stop. Then would either bang into gear when accelerating, or would have to place the car in park, turn off the engine, restart the engine, and place it in drive. Often all would be fine for 2-3 weeks, then the transmission would act up again. After three or four months of this the transmission began slipping when accelerating from a dead stop. There are no unusual noises, the transmission fluid is clean and full, and the transmission appears to shift fine once I get going. I called Ford motor company and they have no recalls or known defects (of course). The dealer urged me not drive the car and bring it into the shop right away. He said it would likely cost between $1300 and $2600 to repair.

9 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1997 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/11/2000

Appears to be a defective design of safety critical component. While accelerating to 40 mph heard loud bang and front of car jumped. Sudden failure/no previous warning signs. Owner (me) suspected transmission or engine mount. Drove home (3 mi. ) at speed less than 30--transmission continued to shift ok but would jolt on up shift. Made noise / "bumped" on turning at very low speed. Dealer had recently serviced transmission (35,578 mi. ). Dealers said 2/3 hardened bolts sheared and 1/3 was loose in front? lower block mount loose. Dealer claims no other damage resulted / will later result-we shall see. Took approx 6 hr labor to repair. Dealer said if owner had not had extended warrantee on drive train, owner would have had to pay all out of pocket. Mount bolts/bracket is such that owner can not easily check- have to remove caty convt & r front engine mount for access. Bracket bolts in triangular pattern in lower block- front?. Veh never in accident or struck; in vg cond. Veh had 12,000 mi when purchased from dealer's service mgr's wife. Driven on paved roads 8-12 mi/day 55 mph max. Not hotrodded. Am intersted if same problem in other Taurus sho v8 models.

When consumer traveled on the highway rpms registered as high as 4 . Then, rpms went back down to zero when consumer shut the vehicle off. Also, consumer noticed a loud noise underneath the engine when shifting gears. Noise sounded like something was going to drop from underneath the vehicle.
