1 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2010 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

This complaint is concerning the michelin tires that came as oe on this car. The sidewalls of these tires began cracking that was first noticed at this date. The cracking has continued to get worst and as of this date I feel that the tires are creating a safety issue and are not reliable. These problem has also occurred with several other people that have these tires on the same cars. This is a common well known problem among owners of this car equipped with these michelin tires. However, as of this date neither Ford nor michelin will acknowledge or act on this problem. These are michelin primacy mxv tires in size: 245/45r20. Currently there is 19,000 miles on these tires and they have been rotated on a regular basis.

2 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Michelin hydroedge have developed cracks in bottom of all treads with only 37,000 miles on a 90,000 mile rated tire. They do not have sidewall weather-checking so it is not a weather or chemical issue. Michelin was asked to pay for at least 50% of replacement cost but they refused. There is only 40% of the miles used on this set of $600 set of tires. The local dealer said he would replace with a different style for $450, which I did. Michelin owes me $150.

4 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/12/2007

Sears and their defective chinese tires. On July 26, 2007, we purchased four new sumitomo htr h4 p215/60hh16 tires for my 16 year old sons 2001 Taurus from sears in Lincoln, nebraska. On August 12, 2007 he drove approximately 15 miles on the interstate to go to a park with some of his friends. Shortly after pulling into the park, the right front tire went flat. He immediately pulled over and changed the flat tire, replacing it with the donut in his trunk. I had never seen a new tire with less then 300 miles on it in this condition. The flat tire had split open along the sidewall. There was no damage to the tire other then this split. It wasn't scuffed like he had hit a curb and there were no nails or puncture holes in the tires. To me, it just looked to be another defective chinese tire. I have had a terrible time with the employees at sears. They have been extremely uncooperative and we have not yet reached a satisfactory resolution. After several hours of working towards a resolution, they did finally agree that the tire was defective and placed a new tire on the rim. However, they stated that they were too busy to place the wheel back on the car and told my son he would have to do that himself. I expect we will end up in court. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

6 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/29/2005

I am writing this report on behalf of my wife's cousin, mrs. Barbara pokorny, who experienced a life threatening tire failure. Mrs. Pokorny, a 71 year old widow, had left st. Mary's hospital in tucson, az at approximately 5 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2005. She was southbound on interstate 19, proceeding at approximately 65 mph, in her 2004 Ford Taurus lx VIN 1fafp52234g197542, with 2500 miles on the odometer. The weather was mild, high 60's, the road smooth and clear. Approximately 16 miles into her trip she experienced a sudden and cataclysmic tire failure on the right rear tire, a continental touringcontact as p215-60r16 94t. She quickly decelerated and came to a stop on the right berm of the interstate. I saw the tire in her trunk and it looked "normal". When I raised the tire and flipped it I discovered that the inner tire wall had failed, jaggedly (saw tooth) torn, completely through the wall, 360 degrees around the tire. Much of the tire wall appeared "missing". Her trunk was full of friable black chunks and powder from the tire inner side wall. I have a sample. The inner tire wall bead was still sealed against the wheel rim, no separation. My immediate reaction was that since the outer tire wall appeared normal and only the inner tire wall failed that a manufacturing defect had occurred within the outer tire wall leading to long term overheating and subsequent side wall disintegration and failure. When the dealer examined the tire, he showed the consumer an alleged tread puncture and interior tread layer tear which voided the warranty.

8 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1997 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/28/2004

This complaint was filed via e-mail. Three days after purchasing and installing four new tires, one of the tires went flat, and a pin hole leak was found in the sidewall, near the bead. Two months later, made a left turn too wide and clipped a curb. This resulted in front right tire looking like it was cut in multiple places through the plys in the sidewall. At the same time, the right rear tire showed a bubble in the sidewall. Pep boys implied there was no defect on these tires, and offered no warranty coverage. Cooper, futura plus touring se. The consumer has the defective tires in his possession.

15 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/26/2003

One of my oem tires (firestone affinity) suddenly failed without warning. There was no road hazard damage such as nails or screws involved. The tire's outside sidewall failed resulting in a split large enough that a credit card could slide through it. The oem tires had less than 18,000 miles at the time of failure. The pressure had been checked during a routine service visit on all of the tires one month prior to this. After taking the tire to a corporate firestone store, they blamed the failure as "impact damage". Basically they said it was my fault for hitting something and not due to a problem with the tire. If I had actually hit something, then I could accept the problem. But since I did not hit anything when the tire failed, I am now concerned about the other oem firestone affinity tires on my 2001 Ford Taurus. There were four passengers in my car at the time this tire failed and all would reitterate the fact that nothing in the roadway was struck to cause the sidewall failure. I was only traveling less than 20 mph when the tire failed as I approaced a stop light.

16 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/30/2002

Two blowouts have occurred on this vehicle in about a year. In both cases, the tires had been inspected and properly inflated within a few days of the incidents (by two different shops). The first was a flat tire discovered in the morning, removal of the tire showed a 2+ inch gash on the inside sidewall of the tire, they had been rotated two days previous. The second occured while driving-- the tire fell apart while travelling on the new jersey tpke, 3 days before, I requested the pressure on the tires be checked during a routine oil change. Mr.

17 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/30/2002

The tire split apart on the sidewall while driving approximately 30mph. I immediatly coasted in to a parking lot of a tire shop. I called middlekauf Ford and explained the situation. No tread wear etc. Middlekauf said they would reimburse me for the price of the tire if I had it replaced. I did so, and upon presenting middlekauff with the tire and the receipt from the tire shop, they refused to honor their agreement. There is no excessive wear on the tire, and I still have it in my possesion if you need it for research.
