1 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2011 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/25/2024

Last June I noticed the car constantly shaking. Took it to goodyear plaza tire in alexandria mn and they said they didn't find anything wrong and it's normal to have tires feel like they are shaking while driving. The tires are 255/45r19 then in July of 2025, I wanted a tire rotation and wheels balanced. The mechanic says they can't because the tread is almost gone and I'd have 5000 left before I could get new tires. About 2000 miles later I noticed the tread separating from the wires on 3 of the 4 tires. They have been kept properly inflated and rotated every 5000 to 6000 miles. Usually every other oil change. Again I was told it's normal since the tires mostly last 30,000 miles and is rated for 40,000. I don't think it's right.

6 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/08/2008

I was driving home from work on I 10 from casa grande, az to phoenix, az, I was about 2 mile from exit 164 when I thought the right front tire blew out, but there was no pull to the right and I did not lose any control of the car. When I got the car to the side I discovered that the tire was still fully inflated, but all the tread was gone, you could see the steel bans. I figure out the loud banging I heard that I thought was a blow out was the tread coming off. In the process of the tread coming off it broke out most of the plastic lining in the wheel well, the molding on the lower panel of the passenger's side and put a large dent in the door. You can see clearly that the tread just peeled away.

15 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/26/2006

I have a concern about what happened last week to my tires. All four tires went bad within a couple of weeks of each other. I began to feel bumping on the road, and within 2 weeks it was bad enough to take the car in to the Ford shop. I was shown where each tire had begun to separate and get warped. I could feel the up-and-down bumpiness in the tires with my own hand when they showed it to me. This was on all the tires. One was so bad it looked like a bubble. These tires only had 53,800 miles on them; on a new car I got through military overseas car sales in April 2000. I have had all the regular servicing/rotation/checks and my husband routinely checked the pressures. My concern is that these all had the same lot number - we checked them to be sure. The a3x844p0400 number was on all of them. The report reads "all 4 tires are worn out - belt separated. " the Ford shop personnel said this is a very rare occurrence and they felt it was worth reporting. If someone else has these tires and and accident results from this separation, it would not be good. Therefore, I am reporting my event so that if there are others, you may take appropriate actions to prevent injuries/damages. I will also send a copy of this note to dot and mil overseas sales. I had to replace all four tires @ a cost of $717. 91 thank you for your attention. Linda shiraishi 1760 150th Ave san leandro CA 94578.

17 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/21/2006

4/27/2006, I had a vibration in my steering wheel noted primarily at low speeds. I had my brakes done and general maintenance but vibration was still present. Went to tire shop who evaluated passenger side rear tire which was separating. I had cooper touring tires on the vehicle approx 1 1/2 years old. I had the tire replaced and the other tires inspected and balanced. Vibration was no longer present. 5/21/06 driving east on I-10 began feeling a steering vibration. I was nearing tucson and planned to exit to the nearest tire shop, vibration increased. I took inventory of vehicles around me noting a truck pulling a boat and made a decision that I did not want to be by the boat if anything happened. I made lane change and shortly after tire made a big bang and I spun 360 degrees on the freeway, spinning rearward into the median. I did avoid hitting trees, other vehicles and being struck by on-coming traffic. I am a driving instructor and have had skid car training. This was the most horrendous event ever in my driving career. Vehicle did sustain damage. Police assisted in getting me out of the vehicle ( I use a wheelchair and drive with hand-controls) and removed the tire and put the spare on the vehicle. I was able to drive to the nearest tire repair facility - the tire was replaced. The tire completely separated and shredded - I have the tire. The vehicle body has not been repaired yet. Today when discussing with CO-workers what happened - I was informed of a recent cooper tire defect story and that is how I got to this site. Tires are cooper touring sle I am not sure what rating dot u9.

19 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/08/2005

Tires-- continental tires on my 1 year old Ford Taurus-- had a bad shimmy when driving around 50 mph. Took to Ford dealership. As they are 15 months old I have no warranty coverage left on tires. Both front tires the belts "had slid"-I learned this is a common problem with these tires which are on thousands of Taurus and windstar vans. I learned sometimes they "bulge" out the sides when the belts slide inside-- mine had not- new tires fixed the driving problem but I think it is disgusting as they only had 15,000 miles on them and I have no warranty coverage at all-they are unsafe and someone should look into it. Thank you. My model # on the tire is p21560r1694t touring contact as.

20 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/16/2005

Continental tire-p215/60r16 94t, touring contact as. I looked for a dot # but didn't see anything that said dot. Did find dk67838 34255 on the inner edge. This tire has large knots and is splitting and separating in only one part of the time. The tires were original equip. On a 2001 Ford Taurus. One has been replaced, but still has three original ones with very good tread. The car has only about 40,000 miles on it. The other two tires have no problems so far. We had notice a severe bumping on the driver side rear where the tire is, but I suppose the car hasn't stopped in the right position for us to see it until now. We found other continental tires on your website that have the same problems and were installed the same year. We will have to replace it since we are afraid that it could cause an accident if we continue driving it.

21 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/12/2005

In mid January I was driving my vehicle , 2002 33xi BMW, when I had a blow out of my front left tire. The tires are nokian wr size 205/50r17. I thought I must have hit a pothole or something else to cause the blow out. Yesterday, March 11, 2005 I noticed a bluge on my front right tire ( same make). I called jack williams for a replacement tire and will have the tire replaced at my cost. My concern is that the tires may be defective. I had all four tires replaced on 12/01/04 and have less then 10,000 miles on them. I feel it is too ironic that I have a problem with another tire after having a blow out. I could not find this make of tire on your recall system. Any assitance you can give me would be appreciated.

22 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/10/2004

I was travelling south on I-15 at 11:00 at night going down from the el cajon summit when I thought there was a strange wobbling every time I used the brakes. I heard a terrible thud and thought I saw a piece of tire fly by the passenger side. I pulled to the shoulder and looked at all the tires, but they were all still inflated so I started the car again and eased down the shoulder, but the noise was still there. Upon closer examination of the tires, I found that the tread separated completely from the tire, causing extensive damage to the wheel well. It also caused a vacuum hose to come apart from it's connection, which I suspect is linked to the ac. Aaa was called to change the tire, and I have the receipt. The next day I had a new tire put on as well as replaced another tire that was in need. They checked the remaining general tire and said it was in good condition. The next morning I headed home at 5:00 in the morning. I was eastbound on I-91 a mile and a half from the I-15 connection when the exact same thing happened to the rear driver side tire. Again the wheel well was completely destroyed and the rear fender to my car. Aaa was again called, and a receipt was obtained. I have both tires in my posession. The first incident happened on Friday, December 10, and the second incident happened on Sunday, December 12.
