39 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

My daughter was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus on July 7, 2011. The vehicle stopped moving. The engine was working, but the car would not move. Car was towed to a repair facility where it was diagnosed that the transmission was torn up and would have to be replace or rebuilt. This transmission failure happened without any previous indications of the car having transmission trouble. I understand that other 2003 Ford Taurus vehicles have also had this problem. If this failure had happened on a busy interstate during rush hour, it could have been a major safety issue. As it was, she almost had a wreck, because the car was driving down the road and then suddenly the transmission failed, causing the vehicle to not have any power to the wheels to move. She was nearly rear-ended by a car behind her due to this product failure. Ford needs to rectify this defect. I am having to come out of pocket for a lot of money to fix a problem that apparently is inherent to this model. I would like for Ford to reimburse my expenses.

40 Transmission Failure problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Transmission failure. No warning. Driving on the highway at 60 mph and it was like the transmission went into neutral. The California highway patroll had to stop all north bound traffic on i5 in los angeles so the tow truck can move the car with the whole family to safety. We couldn't even open the car door.

42 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/22/2011

Without warning my 2003 Ford Taurus won't run in any gear, transmission failure. I had to walk in 105 weather with 5 kids in order to get help for a tow. This was on a busy four lane road where I had to narrowly avoid being rear ended going 50 miles an hour. Is someone waiting for a death to occur to require Ford to recall this faulty product?.

43 Transmission Failure problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

I own a 2005 Ford Taurus sel. It's been a piece of junk since the day I bought it. When I first bought it,it was burning off front tires every 2000 miles,it was aligned by the dealer twice, ended up having to take it to a friends tire shop,we [I'm a motorcycle builer/welder. . ] ended up cutting the welds on the shock mount and moved it. The gas mileage is aweful, but now, after 96,000 miles, the transmission started acting up. It was changed every 30,000 miles, always looked like mud. Two weeks after it started slipping,my wife was coming home late from work on a secluded, dark, really busy highway, out of the blue, the transmission just completely stopped working, she had to drive it into a ditch,or get killed, luckily, the car wasn't damaged badly otherwise. She spent 45 minutes stuck on the side of the road in the dark until I got there with a wrecker. I've looked online, and talked to friends who own garages, these cars are scrap. Nearly every one that makes it to 100,000 miles will experience catastrophic transmission failure. At any time, anywhere, totally without warning. . . Lou degrose.

44 Transmission Failure problem of the 2011 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/04/2011

I have 2 problems with acceleration. One is from a stop. The car doesn't accelerate for a second or two when stepping on gas. This has happened a couple times. Second problem happened at highway speed. This problem has happened only once so far. Was merging on to highway so I accelerated, then let quickly let off the gas to check traffic in another lane to pass a car, then accelerated again to pass car. Due to the amount of traffic merging in and out, it happened very quickly. Once out in the passing lane in rush hour traffic on this busy interstate highway, car would not accelerate for a couple seconds. Tried pushing on the gas pedal a couple times with no response. Car eventually accelerated. Felt like transmission failure. I feel both incidents are a safety concern. When the car doesn't accelerate when you expect it to, you are at risk if traffic around you can't stop in time. Took car to dealer but was told no problem was found and the lag felt from computer delay is normal.

50 Transmission Failure problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

Just another mid-2000s Ford Taurus with a major transmission failure with absolutely no warning prior to loss of drive power. This particular Taurus is a 2004 and the transmission broke while traveling at a steady highway speed. I presume a fatality will have to occur before Ford will address this pandemic transmission failure problem.

51 Transmission Failure problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

A minor slippage in the transmission became a complete transmission failure in less than a mile. No power to any gears, had to be towed. Only repair options presented were new/used transmission, ranging from 1500-3000 in price, even though the nature of the failur was known by the dealership and the other mechanics I spoke with. Otherwise, good car, but now it sits in my driveway. I would like the transmission repaired/replaced reasonably or for free given the complete and total, sudden failure.

52 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/24/2010

Transmission failed on my 2003 Taurus with my son driving in heavy rain at night. After almost being hit from behind, he had to push the car off the road & wait for the tow truck, still dangerous on a busy street in any condition or situation. This seems to be a Ford issue with no solution. Worse yet, there was no warning signs & the fluid smells normal.

Failure Date: 10/03/2010

Transmission failure. Vehicle has approximately 60,000 miles. Was pulling out into busy traffic. The engine revved but stopped moving. The vehicle had to be pushed to the side of the road. 57 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/23/2010

There are no events leading up to failure!! my 17 year old daughter was getting onto the highway 45 minutes away from home and the car just stopped suddenly, she was in an area where her cell phone had no service, she had to accept help from a stranger that stopped to help! her and her 15 year old sister were terrified!! after finally getting in touch with me I had to have the car towed in which they had to ride with a tow truck driver which was just as scary to them!! since then I have done a small amount of research and my findings are astonishing!!! the 2003 Ford Taurus has hundreds of complaints about the same problem! transmission failure. . . I am the only owner of this car and she was driving it to chapel hill because it was safer (in my eyes) that her 1998 Mercury marquis, I am very upset that no one has told us owners of this vehicle that there is a known problem with the transmission. I really expect to hear something from someone in reference to fixing this problem or I will be contacting the state attorney general's office. I have documentation of all the other owners and problems. The car has been taken to a local mechanic because there is no way I'm letting Ford touch my car again. . . And will be getting the results later next week, I should not have to be out of a vehicle because of a known problem that could of been fixed sooner! thank you and know I will be hearing from someone soon!.

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

I have own a 2000 Ford Taurus se in which the transmission failed. My son was returning home from school when the vehicle decelerated then stopped. The vehicle's engine runs fine but it won't move forward or reverse when placed into gear. Conversing with others I've discovered that this isn't an isolated incident. It appears to be a major problem that's being overlooked by Ford. This situation is placing customers in dangerous situation, and my family was fortunate that this didn't occur on a highway or proceeding through an intersection.

Upon further investigation, I found out that the transmission had failed. I researched the problem and found out that alot of people with the same car have the exact same problem. If I had been on a busy highway this could have ended in a totally different way. This is a very bad safety issue that Ford needs to address.

65 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/19/2010

2003 Ford Taurus transmission failure without warning! on I-44 in oklahoma, driving with cruise control at 75 mph, engine revved to 4500 rpm and only stopped climbing because I turned off cruise control. It was as if the transmission suddenly went into neutral. We were very fortunate that we were able to get out of very heavy traffic and coast to the shoulder of the highway. The transmission would not allow forward or reverse in any of the gear ranges. We had no prior occurrences of this problem, it came without warning! the vehicle had to be towed to a Ford dealership and the transmission was replaced with a rebuilt Ford transmission. The dealer told me it was an internal transmission failure. It cost $3171 to replace and $350 for a rental car to use to continue our vacation. We were over 750 miles from home and on the second day of vacation when it occurred.

66 Transmission Failure problem of the 2004 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/11/2010

My transmission failed while on the highway in rush hour traffic. There were no lights, sounds or any indication that there was a problem with the transmission beforehand. Luckily, there was a slow in the flow of traffic so that I could safely move my car off the road, but it could have been worse. I have tried to contact Ford to advise them that the transmission is faulty, but have not received a response yet. The transmissions in the 2004 Taurus definitely should be recalled as this is a safety hazard.

68 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/23/2010

My husband was driving my 2003 Ford Taurus to the corner store and the transmission failed in the middle of the road. There were no warning lights or signs leading up to the failure. Luckily my husband was able to get to the end of our quarter mile driveway were we then pushed it to the house. I am very thankful this did not happen to my three children and I when we were out shopping earlier that day. This a potentially deadly failure that I have found many cases of online.

69 Transmission Failure problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

2005 Ford Taurus 3. 0, vulcan ohv flex-fuel engine. 24,000 miles, driver door would not close anymore. Hood misaligned itself. Interior pieces falling off. When starting, starter would spin free of the flywheel and not start. (still does this, but will start on the 2nd try usually) brake light switch is erratic, light braking produces a flashing effect like I'm hitting the brakes frantically. Makes me look like an idiot driver. (have seen this on other recent mid-2000's Fords before. Thought they were idiot drivers! cannot use e-85 in any chilly weather below 50 degrees or it is a very long start and it'll idle at 2,500 until warm. Routinely gets 17 mpg while being driven very easy. 30,000 miles, flex-pipe exhaust broke on highway, almost ripped off whole exhaust. Wasn't even worn looking, just broke in half! brake rotors warped quickly, never did any hard stops. Continental tires were badly cracked and unsafe, had never been run low or abused. Brake pedal shakes up and down periodically with no reason found, feels like abs but car has no abs. 40,000 miles, complete transmission failure while highway cruising. Seat adjustment will not budge, wife cannot drive car as seat is set for me. 45,000 miles, ac compressor bearing failure requiring compressor replacement. Power window controls do not work. Interior lights work intermittently. Accelerator cable needed replacement. Uses oil at a high rate for a low-mileage car. ( have never neglected oil. ) outer door window rubber is badly deteriorated and cracking apart. I've had 20 year old cars that had better rubber. Paint is beginning to chip off the dash(why is this painted?). This car is of terrible quality. I have had 37 cars and this is the worst one of them all. I have always liked Fords until this car. Ford did honor the warranty when in effect but it is falling apart way too fast and my only recourse is to never buy another Ford.

70 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/13/2010

Traveling on highway, all of a sudden when I was trying to accelerate the car would just increase the rpms. The car wouldn't move in any gears. Repair shop told me transmission failed.
