Ptu- power train unit transmission "catches" while driving at speed causing the car to hesitate. Feels as though the vehicle will stall and cause a rear end type of accident. Not only could this cause a bad accident , yet jepordize many lives. It's unsafe and cause serious health risks. Burning oil fumes seep into the vehicle. Action needs to be taken / put recall on this problem. Action is need . This issue also allows the car to malfunction in so many ways . All 4 wheels can lock up at same time, stalling, even cause car to take off while sitting still, the vehicle jumps out of gears. While driving. Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and the vehicle jumped out of gear and stalled. The contact waited a while and restarted the vehicle and it drove as normal. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. After diagnosis they advised him that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired for the transmission. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. I stopped at a red light and started to go when the light turned green and half way through the light the trains slipped out of gear and wouldn't engage until the rpm went down. This is only one of many times this has happened and after doing some research I'm not the only one. I hope Ford does the right thing and recalls this problem before somebody gets killed and a recall would be nothing compared to a death and a lawsuit.

Transmission slips out of gear while driving and sometimes while stopped. Rear backup camera comes on while driving forward at highway speeds. Ford has issued TSB but my dealer was unaware of it and did not repair until I took them a copy of the TSB 10-21-2. Very dangerous especially when pulling out into traffic. Somebody is going to get hurt. I found info on TSB through owner message boards so it's not an isolated problem.

On two separate occassions, my 2008 Ford Taurus sel automatic transmission dropped out of gear while I was accelerating slowly away from a stop and then slammed into gear. The first time it occurred I was leaving my driveway. It dropped out of gear at about 5 mph and made a growling noise. I stopped the car, thinking somehow the shift lever wasn't in the right position, I put it in gear and the transmission slammed into first. I had my foot on the brake, so I just shifted it into neutral and turned the engine off. When I started it again everything worked fine. About a year and a half later I had a similar incident. I was leaving a parking lot and I had reached a speed of 5-15 mph when there was no longer any gear, then it slammed into gear for a moment, went a few feet, then dropped out again, then slammed into gear again. I was able to coast to the curb in a residential area and turn the engine off. Fortunately no traffic was coming. I started the engine again and had no further trouble, but this time I took it into the Ford dealer where I had bought it new. They checked it out keeping it two days but said they could find nothing wrong with either the transmission or the software controlling it. I was told that there was no memory access to the transmission so that they couldn't find out or verify that there was a problem. I was checking out recalls and service bulletins on it today and I found that other owners reported similar problems. If I had been pulling out into traffic and my transmission failed the way it did, there could easily have been an accident.

Transmission slipped out of gear while traveling about 30 m. P. H. Pulled over , put in park, shut off and restarted vehicle. Cycled through gears, no engagement. Free wheels in any gear but park. No symptoms prior to this. Will update when it is replaced.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving any speed from 2 to 50 mph, the vehicle would slip out of gear for a moment then slip back in. The contact called the dealer who stated that they would reprogram the ecm. The failure occurred two additional times. The contact planned to take the vehicle to the dealer to have it diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000 and the current mileage was approximately 15,200.

I haven't got repair done yet. Transmisson has alway had a slight slip. It totally slipped out in low gear the other day.

Transmission will slip out of gear while driving and right before the car comes to a complete stop, the tranny bucks. I was told by two transmission shops that the transmission has a faulty forward piston and needs to be rebuilt at a cost of $1800. 00 dollars. The car has only 71k miles. After reading all these horror stories, I think Ford should do the right thing and issue a recall!!.

While driving the vehicle, I had difficulty shifting from park into drive. Initially, the vehicle would shift, however it was difficult, ultimately, the vehicle would not shift out of overdrive. Therefore, I could not shift into neutral to take the keys out of the ignition. I later learned that the shift cable snapped. On a one year old vehicle w/13k miles this is unacceptable. A similar problem occurred a month prior, where the vehicle would not shift from o/d into d or 1. The dealerships solution was to forcefully raise and lower the shifter through all of the gears. Shifter is column mounted. Thank you for your time.

Automatic transmission would slip while accelerating, and jump out of gear. Dealership examined vehicle and determined that transmission needed to be replaced. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Automtic transmission is slipping out of gear, and it is difficuilt to shift into gear. Whenever vehicle come to a stop it is delayed before getting into gear. Dealer/manufacturer notified and refused to repair unless cost goes to consumer.
