Abs brake light (yellow) has been on for atleast the last 5 years. My abs brake system does not work at all. I will never buy a Ford product again.
The brake warning light came on dimly and stayed on. I took the 1998 Windstar to a mechanic, who informed me that there was brake fluid in the abs module that was causing the problem. I was also told that this situation could cause a fire. From what I have been told by my mechanic and the Ford service technicians at two Ford service centers the abs system valves which contained brake fluid sat on top of the abs module and were somehow connected. This design, apparently could lead to brake fluid getting into the abs module. I have asked Ford repeatedly if the brake fluid in the abs module could cause a fire, but have not received a straight answer from them. My concern was that this situation could cause a fire shouldn't it be made known to owners of the Ford Windstars or any vehicle with this particular abs sytsem design?.
Antilock brake light comes on after 2 minutes of driving and stays on. Car has only 29000 miles and has only just gone over 3 years.

On February 19, 2000, I took my 1998 Windstar van to broadway Ford in idaho falls, idaho because the abs brake light began staying on all the time. They diagnosed the problem and stated that the vehicle required a front axle speed sensor and a new axle. This was causing the abs system to malfunction. The service manager provided me with a quotation of $554. 21 (see attached quote) to repair the problem.
Consumer while backing out of garage felt like car had backed over something. Rear passenger side brake froze up. Anti-lock brake light was on. Back wheel on the passenger's side was not turning while driving vehicle. Consumer says it was snowing were they were. Took to dealer, and they told consumer to tap with a hammer and put car somewhat warm.
While driving about 45 mph the brake warning light came on. Driver applied the brakes and heard a crunching noise. The van pulled to the right, and driver heard a grinding noise. Driver was able to drive the van home. Then it was driven to the dealership, where the brake rotors/ pads and shoes were replaced.
Abs brake warning light remains illuminated, indicating a malfunction within the system, cause unknown. Please give any further details.
