Five problems related to brake sensor have been reported for the 1998 Ford Windstar. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 1998 Ford Windstar. The contact was driving 35 mph and attempted to engage the brakes but the pedal was depressed into the floorboard abnormally with the illumination of the check engine warning light. The contact also mentioned that once he turned on the heater, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the mass airflow sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 200,816.

Repetitively failing abs by cracked abs rings(four times) or faulty abs sensor.
Three (3) abs sensors have gone bad and had to be replaced on this vehicle since ownership. Each sensor cost $175. 00 with labor to replace and vehicle is out of service for 1/2 day.
The sensor that controls the abs braking system has failed and as a result the brakes no longer function properly. A technical service bulletin has been issued, however, Ford refuses to replace the part. We have contacted both the dealer and Ford directly to request that they pay to replace. This part should not fail on a vehicle with 43,000 miles, and they obviously know of the problem based on the technical service bulletins. I can provide the VIN number later if it would be helpful.
