Unknown Or Other problem #1

At a major intersection getting onto a highway our subframe gave out and we came to a screeching halt & a dead stop. The entire subframe under the passengers side of the van rotted and the wheel was up against the frame of the car. It could have caused a major accident. It cost us $1,500. 00.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

I bought this car used 1 yr and 8 months ago . . Haven't had any major problems with it. We recieved the recall for the rear axle, they checked it out was fine, we never recieved this last recall in 2011 but it may have helped if we did. On Dec 2 I was pulling out of a school, was at a complete stop then started pulling out to take a right only going about 5 mph we heard a bang (something fell in the front end) then the car just took over, there was no stearing, the throttle stuck took us from 5 mph to about 30 mph in like 3 seconds crossing 4 lanes of traffic and just missing 2 vehicles, I crashed into a sign, 2 fences and a tree which made us stop, there was this awful sound that was getting faster and faster, we jumped out of the car because we thought it was going to blow up!!! everything that is in the front end is laying on the ground!! this is very dangerous and I am outraged that something like this could happen. If my husband and I hadnt gone anywhere that night, I would have had my 3 small children in it the next morning!! I am so thankful that we were not hurt (except for emotionaly) and that we also didnt hurt anyone else . . If those cars were 1 second earlier we would have smashed into those cars that were going about 50 mph . . Wouldnt have a been a very good outcome!!! now waiting to see what will happen with the van, if it is fixed I will not get in it ever again!!.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

I was turning a corner and heard a loud bag, as if metal has snapped. I took the car to my Ford dealer who said that the font subframe where the sway bar was attached had rusted through and that the sway bar was now not attached to the subframe and was banging. Ford has fixed the frame on two different rust recalls under "recall 11s16", but said this was not covered and would cost $2085. 75 for the subframe plus labor and hardware. I asked if the car was safe to drive and received a non specific answer! if Ford Windstar has this much problem with there frame rusting why is this not covered??.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

Why does my abs and brake lights stay on even after having a Ford dealership investigate the issue and tells me that there is nothing wrong. This has been an issue for years and seems like a problem waiting to happen. How am I supposed to drive comfurtably wondering if something is going to happen.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

Annual state inspection found rust at mount on right front subframe,,passenger rear rocker panel has rust hole. Abs/brake lights stay on,even after they been fixed.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

The abs and brake lights on the dashboard light up and stay lit. They will only go off after the key is turned off. It took several trips to the Ford dealership for them to diagnose these: perform q test abs system found multiple dtc's cmdtc c1185 abs pwr relay output circuit failure, c1194 lf outlet valve coild circuit fail, c1198 lf inlet valve coil circuit fail, c1210 rf outlet valave coil circuit fail, c1246 rr outlet valave coil circuit fail, c1250 lf inlet valve coil circuit fail, c1254 rr inlet valve coil circuit fail, c1446 brake switch circuit failure open or shorted to ground, u1262 scp data link fault, fail speed deactivation switch.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

The abs system light comes on while driving and it stays on until the car is turned off for some time.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

While idling at red light the rear quarter panel window on the driver's side of my 2001 Ford Windstar exploded. Nothing struck the glass from inside or outside of the vehicle to trigger the explosion. Glass flew into the interior of the vehicle covering the rear seat where my children are normally sitting. Fortunately I had not yet picked them up from school. I have owned the vehicle for three years and to my knowldedge there were no cracks or other damage to the window prior to the explosion. The vehicle and windows are generally in good repair. I still do not know the cause of the explosion. These events occured on April 21, 2011 in boise, idaho.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

My 2001 Ford Windstar was repaired at valley Ford in valley view ohio on 4/14/2011 under recall #20287. I had the van in for an unrelated matter on 12/07/2011 at that time I was informed by my mechanic that the sub-frame was rusted through. After contacting Ford's national service center I took the van to valley Ford. They inspected it and confirmed that the sub-frame was rusted through. They forwarded their finding to Ford motor CO. And Ford motor CO. Was not willing to address the issue with the sub-frame. I believe this issue should have been addressed under the initial recall. Since at least April of 2011 any time my children, myself, or anyone else rode in the vehicle it was subject to a catastrophic failure of the sub-frame which could have caused serious or fatal injury to the occupants or others.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

2001 Ford Windstar. Consumer writes in regards to recall letter and repairs the consumer did not specify which recall.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

Brought my van in for recall for rear axle. Dealer showed me how front passenger side subframe had rusted to a point where it is now unsafe to drive. This could have been a problem if I was driving at the time. I know Ford is now under investigation with the same vans and wanted to let you know I have one. The underside of my van is nearly rust free except for the subframe mounting point only on the passenger side.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

Investigation: pe 10-026 date opened: 07/20/2010 investigator: kerrin bressant reviewer: jeff quandt approver: richard boyd subject: front sub-frame corrosion found this after I had my 2001 Windstar at the Ford dealer and they showed me this problem my van at this time is unsafe to drive they are replacing the rear axle for a recall but the subframe is so rusted it unsafe to drive.

Unknown Or Other problem #13

Vehicle was pulling away from a stop sign when there was a loud thunk. The engine ran away, the steering became unresponsive, and the brakes stopped working. Fortunately the vehicle was headed uphill and beached itself on a snow drift on the sidewalk. Both rear attachment points for the engine subframe had rusted out and given way. The engine dropped until it was supported by the remainder of the frame and exhaust system dragging the road. If this had not happened at such a low speed, this could easily have been a deadly failure. As a long time engineer in the auto industry, I find this type of failure within the service life of the vehicle to be totally inexcusable. This form does not even have a listing for a frame failure. On a final note, I called Ford about this failure. They informed me that the vehicle was out of warranty and they had no interest in investigating the failure - also inexcusable.

Unknown Or Other problem #14

I was driving and turned into a parking lot and heard a thump, originally I thought I may have ran over something. The noise continued when turning as I drove home. On December 27, 2010 our vehicle was taken in for the rear axle recall and to diagnose the thump noise in the front passenger wheel. We were told by the Ford dealership mechanic that the sub frame front passenger side was corroded and needed to be replaced . . . $1900 service estimate!!.

Unknown Or Other problem #15

Power rear sliding doors. Will open when driving!!! have two small children in the back and they have popped open at speeds in excess of 50 mph. Took to mechanic who cleaned tracks that doors run on. Fixed issue for two (2) days then issues returned. Ford claims it is regular wear and tear, but the mechanic says there is no issue with vehicle parts. . . It's the exposed track getting dirty that can cause this issue!!!.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

On November 2nd of 2010, I was driving and noticed the vehicle was not steering properly and the wheel was not aliened as it should be, I then got under the vehicle as I was replacing an O2 sensor and noticed the extensive corrosion on the passenger side sub frame, I took a photo of it and showed my husband, he said in no way to drive that vehicle. I had it towed. The sub frame was so corroded by not driving in my opinion saved my 83 year old moms life, and mine. The drivers side is almost as bad, I have photos and the repair slip cost me 324. 00 to weld to safety. This obviously is a major problem with these vehicles and needs to be addressed. I took over this vehicle November 30th of 2010, my mom owed it in new york since 2003.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

2001 Ford winstar. Consumer writes regarding recall the consumer stated she has called several dealers to have the recall performed. However, due to the large volume of recalls, dealers are only servicing vehicles that were purchased at their dealership. The dealership where she purchased her vehicle from is no longer a Ford dealership. Consumer did not reference recall.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

Ford Windstar 2001 - problems with abs/brake light: coming on and off intermittently. Sometimes it will stay on for a long time, then goes off. Then will come back. Replacing brake shoes, drums, brake pads, bleeding cylinders, did not solve the problem. It cost me over then $500 in repairs but problem still there.

Unknown Or Other problem #19

Front subframe rusted on passenger side at lower control arm attachment point. Rear side of attachment point is completely rusted away. Front side of attachment point is still intact but is rusted and cracked. Vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive. Photographs can be submitted if required.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

In sept. 2009 I purchased a used 2001 Ford Windstar. The day after I got home the abs and brake light came on. I took it to a mechanic who informed me that this is a reoccuring problem for my van. My brake lights stay on sometimes and it drains my battery. This is all surrounding the abs and brake light issues. I have replaced rotors, brake shoes, brake pads, and many trips to my mechanic. I contacted Ford about my issue and they said it isn't their problem and their is no recall on it. I have researched that I am not alone. Please make Ford look into this brake issue/abs.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

On two occasions we have had to have our axel replaced. This happened 6/18/2009 and 7/13/2010. The mileage was 156,000 and 171,210 respectively. The amount with towing came to $1,473. 37. Reimbursement check came 1/29/2011 for $978. 80 with no explantion regarding the difference and both receipts returned. Brought Windstar to schultz Ford in nanuet, NY and was told there were no cracks in the axel and I would be notified when replacement part was in. This was October. It is now going to be February and still no parts at the schultz Ford in nanuet to ensure this axel doesn't crack. Please help. It seems as if they are delaying hoping your car will no longer be in service to require this recall. How very dangerous to place money over safety.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

Before Ford recalled for this problem, my rear axle broke in half at 65 mph on the highway resulting in loss of control and fumes filling the car from tires rubbing against wheel wells. In March of 2011 Ford recalled and reinforced the subframe. Inspection is now due on my vehicle and my mechanic will not pass it due to the installment of the recalled reinforcement. Reportedly the installation was performed and attached to an equally as corroded part and failure is once again imminent. I returned the vehicle to the Ford dealer that made the recall repair and was told that it is indeed safe. I am now stuck with a potential repair bill of $700. 00 that will not fix the problem due to the model year parts having the same issues, or just driving the vehicle until failure occurs (again) and going back to Ford with a lawsuit as I cannot in good conscience sell this vehicle to anyone else.

Unknown Or Other problem #23

"check engine light" - Ford vehicles have this problem. I had a 95 Ford aerostar, 95 Windstar and the check engine light occationally turned on. I called the dealership and was told not to worry because it's only for the emmision system. I have a 2001 Windstar and 2002 explorer sport tract with the same problem - the check engine light. My wife brought the Windstar back to the dealership and they fixed the problem with the fuel cap not properlly closed, according to the mechanics. Can the manufacturer make a different warning light rather than confusing the driver with an engine problem?.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

Nhtsa recalls 01v261000 and 01v207000. Dealer has been contacted for repairs. Dealer failed to return phone calls over a two week period, after filing a complaint with NHTSA, the dealer scheduled an appointment.

Unknown Or Other problem #25

When I started my minivan it was an afternoon. I noticed that when I started driving the minivan it was like forcing it self then I would change the speed and it would sound different but it felt like it was heavy, I would change it to n and it still make this sound like if I was driving on a wet highway and engine was still loud. When I would speed more than 30 mph it just wouldn't respond as it did before. I purchased this minivan not to long ago -I would say close to a month-. When taking it for a test drive everything looked good, sounded ok -other than the shocks that needed to be replaced- and no lights were on. But after two days had gone by the previous owner said that the abs light would "sometimes" turn on and would turn off on its own. So, I had a mechanic inspect the minivan for the replacement of the shock wondering if this might take care of the problem, but after the work was done the abs and brake light started to turn on. Went back to the mechanic because it came making weird sound on the left side so he told me that brake pads also needed to be replaced, so I thought to myself this would take care of the problem which it didn't happen. Now after close to a month of owning this minivan and weather becoming much hotter I noticed this problem. I had a mechanic look at it again today and he suggested that a take it to a Ford dealership to have the minivan inspected since he was also aware of a recall done on these types of vehicles. I am just afraid to keep on driving it because I can tell something is just not right and I feel that it's just going to brake down on me anytime soon. And since I have a baby I prefer not to drive or drive a long distance or even on a high speed.

Unknown Or Other problem #26

2001 Ford Windstar sel my brake light and abs light are on frequently . . . I notice this during and after rain or when conditions are wet outside . . . Also after I hit a bump in the road they seem to come on. My vehicle has been like this for at least a year and the dealership told me I needed new brake pads on the front. I replaced them and the problem continues to occur.
