Merging onto highway pressed on gas pedal to around 45-50mph. Stepped on break pedal and car would not slow down. Took foot off brake pedal twice and car accelerated without touching gas pedal. Had to keep applying pressure to brake pedal, slowed down somewhat, pulled off highway into parking lot. Trying to avoid crashing into frozen snow bank and building, put car into neutral. Car went into reverse back onto highway in the slow lane into oncoming traffic. Was able to avoid accident due to oncoming car switching lanes. Put car back into drive and was able to pull into the same parking lot. Was afraid to put into another gear, so shut the car off while in drive to stop car. This was the most terrifying experience my family and I ever experienced. Had the car towed to the dealership. The dealership tried to reproduce the problem for 2 days without any success. Will be trading car in with another car maker.

2003 Ford Windstar accelerates unexpectedly, almost causing death.
Vechicle accelaration when foot is off gas. Pumping gas pedal did not stop this action. Pumping brakes or pressing hard on brakes do not stop action. Only placing the car in neutral and then shifting back into drive stop this action. Was on merritt parkway in CT when this occurred. This is the second occurrence for this vechile.

The accelerator jammed which caused the vehicle to surge backwards and struck some boulders.
I have a 2003 Windstar se. The gas pedal has a pivot in the arm and over the last 8 months that I have owned the vehicle this pedal has caused me to almost get into several accidents. The pedal flips almost horizontal towards the drivers seat when I take my foot off of it, therefore when I go to leave a stop light or something of that nature it is almost like slamming the gas pedal. In order to get the pedal back in the position it was orginally in I have to flip it back up with my foot. This is a very bad problem and needs to be fixed. I believe there should be a recall on this van to fix the problem.
Vehicle accelerated when brakes were applied due to a faulty brake sensor. The consumer experienced sudden acceleration on three different occasions where the vehicle jerked into oncoming traffic while the consumer's foot was on the brake pedal. (received by consumer frauds bureau on 6/4/03).
We own a 2002 Ford Windstar with adjustable height for the brake/accelerator pedals. Unfortunately the adjustment button is on the center console right where my right knee rests. The design allows for adjustments while the vehicle is in motion. On too many occasions my knee has hit the button while in motion causing the vehicle to accelorate or deccelerate unexpectedly. As of now no accidents have resulted, however, one can easily see the safety concern. I contacted Ford and they refuse to disable the feature because that was the original design of the vehicle although in my mind it was a faulty design to have the pedals adjust while in motion.

On various occasions when coming to a stop, the van attempts to accelerate. The van will not move forward. Upon pressing on the accelerator, the engine revs up. After 10-15 seconds, the van shifts into gear and lunges forward. This is a problem because there's no indication when this type of movement will occur. On occasions when breaking to slow the vehicle down, the vehicle slips into neutral and will not accelerate without warning. It goes back into drive mode. This again causes another safety hazard. The vehicle has almost been rear-ended nearly causing an accident.

Consumer was traveling 30mph stepped on gas pedal and it went down to the floor board and got stuck. Consumer hit the curb, no injuries. Vehicle has been to dealer 6 times. They are ordering a new gas pedal.
When accelerator pedal is applied vehicle hesitates. After a few seconds, it will surge forward. The dealer has repaired the vehicle. Manufacturer has been notified. . The defecet has reoccured again within 6 weeks of the repair. Now dlr states cannot find cause.
In extreme cold weather , the throttle pedal sticks, causing the vehicle to accelerate.
When depressing the accelerator ,vehicle will only go about 2 mph even with vehicle in drive gear. Manufacturer has TSB #98-2-1 out for defect.
The location of the brake peddel in relationship to the gas pedal has resulted in the gas pedal being depressed when trying to brake as they are too close together. (my husband will no longer drive the van as this is a problem that occurs most often for him due to his larger shoe size. ) additionally, the brake pedal is much higher than the gas pedal and my foot became tangled under the brake pedal, causing me to roll into on comming traffic when trying to stop while exiting from a parking lot. No accident occured as the on-coming traffic stopped in time to avoid my van.
Received recall notice in mail concerning throttle pedal sticking, and contacted dealership. Inquired if had parts available before bring vehicle in, and was informed they did. Took vehicle in, and later informed no parts were available. Would need to order parts, and would have mats in a few days. Owner was upset regarding issue.
While turning into a parking space consumer removed foot from the accelerator pedal to apply the brakes, and vehicle suddenly accelerated. Consumer had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal, and put the van in neutral to stop van from accelerating. Dealership serviced the van twice for this issue, but the problem recurred.
Design of the accelerator and brake pedal are located on the same plane resulting in accidental engagement of the accelerator, resulting in collision.
